Our puppy was just under 1 year old when we sent her to Jonathan and I could not be more pleased with the results. I was wrong about sending her as now she is much calmer and actually listens to us sometimes. Well more often than not. Neither of us had any experience with owning and training a dog before so this was truly a Godsend. Zoey now listens to basic commands and Jonathan worked with both of us on how we need to do things with her so that we are consistent and this is how we get her to do the commands that she had learned. Continuing education is a part of the program and is included and we will be taking advantage of these classes as we continue to learn about the right way to train our dog. I highly recommend both Jonathan and the entire Dog Camp Training Staff but we are bias to Jonathan as he is the man.

She's only been home for a day but i can tell such a huge difference. She is less reactive, more respectful, and so open to commands and direction. Angie and Kersti were amazing with her and did everything i asked and more! They were so sweet and patient with her and were so knowledgeable of her breed and her needs. I got a report card and video at the end of her camp and both were very thorough. I also LOVED the constant posts and emails of how she was doing since i was missing her immensely!! When she came home both trainers spent almost two hours with us teaching us everything she learned and how to do some leash drills. I could see their level of care in every aspect of her training and i am absolutely thrilled!! I can't wait for group classes and for continuing education :))

He pulled on the leash, barked at the door, and had bouts of aggression when he didn't get his way. I felt uneasy having guests over because I felt like I had no control over my dog. Basically, my dog owned me.. not vis versa. He did ~2 weeks of the board and train program at SMS Raleigh and even though we were nervous to send him away (it felt like forever!), we loved getting bi-weekly updates from his trainer and seeing his progress. Training Ollie will always be a work in progress but the biggest different we have seen is that HE LISTENS! Hallelujah. My friends come over and say they see a huge difference in him - he's calm, sweet, and charming. He is still a dog.. he does bark at the mailman, and sometimes pulls on the leash, but if we correct him, he is happy to obey. I also love the fact that we have free access to the group classes 2x a week and have the opportunity to continue training him. Overall, we are very happy with his progress and we are dedicated to continue training him with the SMS methods.

Colby the owner explained it best to me when he said "It's not about punishment, it's about attention and boundaries. Dogs want to please their owners, so once you have their attention their instinct takes over and training becomes easier. The strides and response to this training are remarkable. So pleased with the results so far. I am happy and more importantly my dog is happy. We have only had 3 private whole day training sessions, and tonight we will attend our first group training. Looking forward to this as it can only help build on the foundation established in the private 3 lessons. The training is not inexpensive, however it cheaper than replacing carpet not to mention several pairs of shoes, baseboards ETC. I recommend sitting down with Colby or any of the other trainers and let them explain why this works. You won't have any regrets. Rick W

On the morning of May 2nd, My very healthy, 2.5 yr old German Shepherd, Matilda, had a scheduled…read moreroutine spay surgery at Youngsville Animal Hospital that was done by Miranda Bailey, the Owner of YAH. Two days later, Matilda is in emergency surgery at Blue Pearl specialized emergency hospital due to life threatening peritonitis/septic abdomen and resulting paralytic ileus, 104.2 fever. The Blue Pearl ER surgeon re-opened her belly and found the cause of infection...her abdominal cavity (peritoneum) was contaminated by foreign objects that fell inside of her open abdomen *during* the routine spay surgery at YAH. The contaminants were an alarming amount of **long strands of Matilda's HAIR** and that's how Miranda Bailey closed her up, full of long fur scattered inside of her peritoneum. And then remained silent while letting us leave her facility, knowing the suffering and Hell that awaited us. In order for all of that hair to have fallen inside her peritoneum, there was a massive departure from the most basic standard of care and practice. It is INEXCUSABLE . This extreme level of carelessness caused unnecessary suffering and the potential death of a loving soul, my best friend. It is terrifying that a licensed professional allowed this to happen. These kinds of things happen after a back room, clandestine, illegal surgery...not by a professional in a supposedly controlled clinical environment/OR. My baby went in a healthy, vibrant being and ended up fighting for her life in ICU. IV fluids, IV pain meds, broad spectrum IV antibiotics, close monitoring; JP draining infection/fluid from her abdomen, protein malnutrition, The good news is that my husband and I decided stop listening to Bailey's advice "give sodium free broth, let her rest all day" and to rush her to an ER in time, exceptional Blue Pearl Drs diagnosed the septic abdomen and I opted for aggressive treatment, immediate surgery to re-open her abdomen. Abscesses had not yet had time to form around all those hairs, her abdomen had to be lavaged several times by the surgeon, antibiotics and treatments started asap. That gave her a fighting chance and she got through the vulnerable, unpredictable 5-7 days, which helped her chances of recovery greatly increase. I would panic every time I got a phone call, terrified of getting the news that I couldn't bear to hear. It was horrible for her and for us. After almost a week in ICU, and because I'm a RN, She was able to come home with 24 hour supervision, a comprehensive plan of care, around the clock meds for pain, nausea, appetite stimulants, antibiotics. Activity restrictions, rest Cardiology diagnosed infective endocarditis (infection in her heart's aortic valve) caused by the peritonitis bacteria from the hairs washing through her body. She is a very different dog now $20,000+ vet bill, expensive ongoing antibiotics & medical follow/up, ongoing $$$ cardiology monitoring for the remainder of her life. No accountability from YAH. Instead, Bailey and YAH publicly attacked my personality and character with completely false statements in public forums, her website, the YAH FB account, and others Bailey unethically obtained confidential medical records that she posted in public social media forums without my consent or knowledge. She cherry picked bits of the records taken out of context to fit her false narrative of a business statement. I was already barely holding it all together and she decided to make life even worse for me than the nightmare she already created. Gaslighting our community at the expense of truth, well being of others. Bailey's Actions speak louder than any of her words. I trusted Bailey for over 2 years....Matilda could have been anyone's pet. It's reasonable to wonder how many others did not survive to tell their stories?

Ryan gave us great advice and provided the "why" behind a lot of the dog behaviors we are seeing as well as specific steps we could take. We were able to get general information regarding dog behavior as well as specifics regarding what motivates our dog, what triggers our dog, and how to re align our dogs behavior so that he is happy and we are happy!! I appreciated Ryan's use of video to clearly illustrate behavior. His teaching style is clear and effective. He also helped with suggestions about training tools. His approach avoids the use of gimmicks and focuses on what dogs do naturally and how we can tailor what we do to cultivate the best relationship between us. We are already seeing changes in our dog based on the initial recommendations from Born to Lead and we plan to continue to work with Ryan as we help our dog and our family. Thanks Born to Lead!

We agreed the "Fearful Fido" class would help him- I went ahead and registered him and paid in full- $335 . Next month when the class was to start- she emailed me the day before to cancel saying not enough people signed up. She said I would receive a refund in 3-5 business days. This was May 5- by May 14 no refund showing so I emailed to remind her- she said she would check- she got confused about which class I had enrolled in and said she did not see an email about a refund. I reminded her of the class and that she has canceled because there were not enough participants. She emailed back she was on the road and may have looked at the wrong invoice. She would check on it that evening. ..... crickets.... I emailed her again on May 20- to remind her again and she replied she resent the request. Sure enough it appeared next day in my bank but for only $325. I emailed her asking why I had to pay $10 when she canceled the class? She told me, "Laura , Paypal business accounts hit me for a fee for every payment and refund. I requested refund. They refunded you the amount minus what they charged me. As a merchant we pay a lot to have a business." Needless to say passing your mistakes and costs along to customers will cost you business- I will never use her services and suggest you don't either unless you are ok with donating your $.

We were pretty shocked by several businesses that recommended shock collars and prong collars for our pup who was already calm and submissive. When we met with Christie, it was refreshing to learn about her positive and praise-focused approach to training-- and in our consultation session alone she taught Mirabel (and our family) how to walk properly with a leash and the sit command. The entire first visit was based on patience, building trust with our pup, and enjoying the time we spent training. We've taken several classes with Christie since, and every single one is based on the same approach that she introduced on Day 1. The classes are FUN and a great opportunity to meet other pets and their parents in a safe and welcoming environment. I hope Mirabel and I meet you and your pup soon!
