The spa, gym, and pool (when considered together) were above average. The gym and pool were essentially abandoned and allowed for my full enjoyment. The gym is impressive in size, well stocked, clean, and with updated equipment. The pool is sparkling clean, chic and modern in design, with a fairly large whirlpool. Both the gym and the pool were lovely. However, all these amenities are a bit of a trip away, and quite a walk from one's room if you're staying in the main estate of the K Club. You have to walk all the way down the hall, take the elevator or stairs down, then walk through another hall to the lobby, then down another long hall past several common rooms, before taking a 5 - 10 minute walk OUTSIDE just to arrive at the building. So of course for practicality (and I suppose modesty), it is best to just bring your change of clothes or swimsuit with you, as opposed to making this long trip through the corridors in your robe and slippers. Though I enjoyed the gym and pool, the spa left something to be desired in way of service and treatment: I had booked my seaweed treatment well in advance to avoid disappointment, as was recommended to me when I had initially booked my stay. Well, when I was checking in at the front of the amenities building (which you must do in order to get a key to a locker in the change room), the attendant looked up my information and followed up with asking me if I'd like to book a spa service. Of course, I was very surprised to find that my appointment was not already in the books. So through this attendant, I re-booked my treatment for the last day of my stay, making sure to confirm with her that it was the same treatment I had booked initially. However, I found out later than I should have reconfirmed with someone else, as I did not receive the treatment she described to me; which is the one I wanted. What I had initially booked, and what she confirmed with me, was a full seaweed wrap and soak, which uses fresh leaves of Irish sligo seaweed as well as seaweed extracts with a micronized peat. The highlight of this treatment for me would have been the full leaves of seaweed, which is why I booked it. The attendant at the time even agreed with my decision, saying that getting the wrap with "whole leaves" was one of the best and most unique experiences, as well as a K Spa signature treatment. Unfortunately, when the last day of my stay rolled around and it came time for me to get this treatment, I was not given this wrap and soak at all. And alas, the attendant I had booked through before was not there that day. So the problem was not remedied. Instead of the wrap and soak, I was given a very standard, entirely normal 25 minute bath in a jet tub. It's unbelievable that this is even considered a treatment of some sort. When I saw the tub, I quickly said that there must be some mistake, but instead I received a curt response that this was indeed a seaweed soak, and I had no wrap booked. After pouring a plastic measuring cup of powdered seaweed into the tub and turning on the jets, this particularly apathetic employee then left me to tend to myself with a 25 min timer. Not luxurious at all and not worth the €75 spa credit that I used. The dark tiled room had no open windows and with the closed door, the air circulation was poor, so the atmosphere quickly became uncomfortable and claustrophobic. The water was too hot for me and the tub was so deep that I couldn't even calmly lay back and truly "soak," as hot water went up my nose a few times when I tried. Either the tub was overfilled or I am very very tiny. Once, I honestly felt the sensation that I might drown. It was very unnerving and not a calming experience at all. After failing to soak in the tub, I left before the timer went off. I later made my way to the reading room (which featured several different types of loose leaf teas and did succeed in calming me down a bit before my flight), though no one came to find me afterward, so I suppose my absence didn't bother them.

Whether it is offering driver services to its location (and home again), the hand sanitize/temperature taking device just prior to walking into their lobby, the proper ambient lighting, pleasent focal point to gaze at while being massaged, or a variety of beverages upon request - there is not a detail which this establishment has missed. I have been to the spa several times with either my daughter or husband and we have managed to enjoy several of their services (salt room, presso therapy, flotation table, and sauna room) in addition to their basic massage. Each service or experience allows the visitor to feel as though they have had a mini vacation day and return home feeling rejuvenate. I very much look forward to my next visit!

The Shelbourne Spa is not actually in the hotel, but three doors down to the right. I've never noticed it before as it blends in as one if the big Victorian style houses but it's really easy to find. The spa is actually upstairs but you have full use of the leisure club facilities when using the spa and these are on the ground floor. In terms of decor, it is every bit as elegant as the hotel, with big chandeliers and plush furniture. When you check in you are brought to change into your robe and slippers before being led to the relaxation room which looks over Stephen's Green, which I loved. If I'm honest, I've been in better relaxation rooms, this one was very bright and probably would have been relaxing if it wasn't for a group of really loud talkers. This wasn't the staff's fault but tainted the experience a little for me. In terms of refreshments there was a selection of teas, some small nibbles and water. Also, after your treatment you get a tasting plate of fruit, juice and sorbet. I opted for the 'Tropical' which consisted of pineapple juice, kiwi and coconut sorbet and it was delicious. The highlight for me was the treatment though. I received a gift of the "Celebratory Spa Package" which consisted of an Elemis facial and a hot- stone back massage. Both of these were excellent, the therapist was lovely and spoke me through the products she used afterwards. The one criticism I would have would be that it's quite expensive at €129 for the package which only lasted an hour. I would have expected it to last a little longer at this price. With the excellent staff, treatments and location I would definitely go back, but I think I'd be waiting for a special occasion!

It was 20% bearable pain for me and the rest was very relaxing, also I opted for a deep tissue massage which as the name implies is not going to be sweetness and light. I made an appointment to get a 30min back massage in my lunch break the other day. My therapist was the lovely Laura who brought me to the relaxation area first and then offered me a robe. I told her I was on my break and needed to go back to the office so she tailored her usual routine to suit my schedule without compromising on time spent on my back. The massage itself was very good, good pressure and little talking - just the way I Iike it. The spa offers different deals depending on the weekday and they do run a loyalty scheme for returning clients. I will certainly be back soon and I will reserve the last star for when I tried one of their facials.

The facial was lovely, lots of nice smelly creams, oils and lotions and potions when on my face and then some sea weed. I got a really quick dry body brush on my back and then a short mild massage and then it was over! I was a little disappointed! There was no steaming or extracting or anything special and it was only 60 min long! It was really nice and relaxing and all that but I was so happy I didn't spend the 115 euro!

On arrival we were led to the changing room to change into our robes before our treatments but when we walked in two men were working on a light in the corner of the room. The receptionist told us that they would only be a few minutes but the men showed no signs of finishing anytime soon. We waited for a few minutes to see if they would finish up but as we had to get back upstairs for our treatments we just had to get changed in the cubicles provided. In my opinion the men should have been asked to step outside while we were getting changed as not only would this have taken a few minutes but there was a lot of banging, not exactly what you expect when you go to a spa. Also, we were asked to share a locker when the receptionist realised that we were together. Initially we agreed but when we saw how small the lockers were we couldn't actually fit our stuff in so we had to take two. We did think it was an odd request though given the sheer volume of empty lockers available. The treatments we had were lovely. The therapists were really nice and had a little chat before starting the treatments to make sure we got what we wanted. The thermal suites were nice too, with an outdoor jacuzzi, indoor hydrotherapy pool, sauna and heated chairs along with a relaxation room to chill out in. The one thing that struck me about the place though was the amount of background noise...banging in the changing rooms, a lot of people walking around outside the relaxation room and people talking outside the treatment room. This, for me, was the deal-breaker! When I go to a spa I want quiet surroundings and a sense of calm. With these type of places I think it's all about the little extras and this place was definitely lacking those special touches. The place definitely showed signs of needing a little work done here and there too. With so many nice spas in close proximity to Dublin I would be more inclined to go somewhere else before returning here again. I gave it three stars because the treatment was lovely but I did contemplate giving it two because I didn't get that 'spa experience' I was hoping for. So off I toddled down to check out the place and I was really suprised. as when I walked in the door of the Spa the decor totally changed into a relaxing peaceful and personal sort of place with a small waiting area that you sit in before your treatment, nothing like the hotel that it is attached to (not dissing the hotel, it's just a very typical hotel decor), The parking here is free (score) if you are using the Spa, or it's right on the bus routes from the City centre so it's a easy enough place to get to. Although driving back I nearly fell asleep from relaxation! The staff are really professional and friendly and the products that the use is called Yonka, which is all organic, quite pricey to buy on it's own and extremely addictive! You have your own massage room complete with shower so your not sprinting from a mud bath to the other end of the hotel to rinse off (something like that happened to me before, I looked and felt like swamp thing) with the whole candles, nice relaxing music etc I went in bleary eyed and pale and when I came out I felt like I had just spent a week in a 5 star Spa in Thailand (minus the wallet stinging part). The price is actually really decent here, maybe due to the fact that it is outside the city centre but a 40 minute escale facial was €50 combined with full aroma stone body massage lasting 75 minutes was €100. I have been to places in the city centre that charged way more and I felt like I was paying for the location rather than the treatments. This place is a fantastic way to treat someone (or hey yourself) and the range of treatments is extensive, The one thing is though to make sure to make an appointment well in advance as they are usually booked up on the weekends in particular. They also do a full men's treatment list as well (I have seen some Macho lads come out looking suspiously fresh faced and sweet smelling, or maybe they all got lost on the way to the manly car garage...)

I wonder if their child whacked his head off the side of a table would they still be laughing. I wonder would they accept responsiblity - no chance. That's why you are supposed to have a management to protect the child if the parents won't... It is your property after all.
