I arrived in Dublin to find my fresh pedicure was ruined by my sneaks during the flight. Luckily…read morethis beautiful spa is located in my hotel and they were more than accommodating (bonus: they didn't even charge me for polish change). Lisette and Lauren are fantastic. I'm mildly obsessed with their sticker foot coverings in lieu of paper temporary flip flops. Only caveat - for indoor use only. Can't wait to come back for hair and body services.

A luxury spa situated on Stephen's Green just a short walk from all the shops and restaurants…read moreDublin has to offer. Sounds like heaven right? Well, it's pretty close! The Shelbourne Spa is not actually in the hotel, but three doors down to the right. I've never noticed it before as it blends in as one if the big Victorian style houses but it's really easy to find. The spa is actually upstairs but you have full use of the leisure club facilities when using the spa and these are on the ground floor. In terms of decor, it is every bit as elegant as the hotel, with big chandeliers and plush furniture. When you check in you are brought to change into your robe and slippers before being led to the relaxation room which looks over Stephen's Green, which I loved. If I'm honest, I've been in better relaxation rooms, this one was very bright and probably would have been relaxing if it wasn't for a group of really loud talkers. This wasn't the staff's fault but tainted the experience a little for me. In terms of refreshments there was a selection of teas, some small nibbles and water. Also, after your treatment you get a tasting plate of fruit, juice and sorbet. I opted for the 'Tropical' which consisted of pineapple juice, kiwi and coconut sorbet and it was delicious. The highlight for me was the treatment though. I received a gift of the "Celebratory Spa Package" which consisted of an Elemis facial and a hot- stone back massage. Both of these were excellent, the therapist was lovely and spoke me through the products she used afterwards. The one criticism I would have would be that it's quite expensive at €129 for the package which only lasted an hour. I would have expected it to last a little longer at this price. With the excellent staff, treatments and location I would definitely go back, but I think I'd be waiting for a special occasion!

I hasten to add not tears of ecstasy. It's an odd relationship. You lie there with your head poking out through the hole of the massage table in your disposable knickers, hoping that you didn't miss a patch shaving your legs. But all that self consciousness evaporates when someone is digging their elbow in your back. "Just relax your leg." "I am." "Wow you are tense." Let me tell you feeling a popping sensation in your back is not hot. Having a masseuse take a focused battle to those muscles incites a range of emotions, such as you want her to win but you want her to stop too (she did ask me to speak up if the pressure was too much, so you do have control). "What popped?" "Oh that's just your muscles you have lots of knots. I am pushing them back were they should be." "Oh." "You are very tense." "I'm sorry." Why did I just apologise I asked myself. She looked at me with the same thought. "So yeah, you should do this more often." "OK." "Also you probably will be very sore tomorrow so get some anti-inflammatory cream." At this point you may be thinking, "Jez Annie you really sold this place to me and the massage." It was 20% bearable pain for me and the rest was very relaxing, also I opted for a deep tissue massage which as the name implies is not going to be sweetness and light. I also appear to be a very uptight person with an extraordinarily tense body. I have Woody Allen muscle tendencies. €60 for 1 hour. Usually it's €80 but they have loads of summer specials, just check out their website. P.S Thank you Edel N & Sharon C for liking my check in tip, your support carried me through the pain.

I think I found my new spa! After months and months of trying new places, I finally fell in love…read morewith a place and its staff. I made an appointment to get a 30min back massage in my lunch break the other day. My therapist was the lovely Laura who brought me to the relaxation area first and then offered me a robe. I told her I was on my break and needed to go back to the office so she tailored her usual routine to suit my schedule without compromising on time spent on my back. The massage itself was very good, good pressure and little talking - just the way I Iike it. The spa offers different deals depending on the weekday and they do run a loyalty scheme for returning clients. I will certainly be back soon and I will reserve the last star for when I tried one of their facials.

This place is the business as far as I am concerned…read more I happened to stumble across this place when I was looking to treat my lovely Mammy to a birthday present and I figured that I should do a lil something extra (as the bath salt hampers just don't really cut it anymore after the age of 12 when they are bursting out of the wardrobe still in their unopened crisp packaging). So off I toddled down to check out the place and I was really suprised. as when I walked in the door of the Spa the decor totally changed into a relaxing peaceful and personal sort of place with a small waiting area that you sit in before your treatment, nothing like the hotel that it is attached to (not dissing the hotel, it's just a very typical hotel decor), The parking here is free (score) if you are using the Spa, or it's right on the bus routes from the City centre so it's a easy enough place to get to. Although driving back I nearly fell asleep from relaxation! The staff are really professional and friendly and the products that the use is called Yonka, which is all organic, quite pricey to buy on it's own and extremely addictive! You have your own massage room complete with shower so your not sprinting from a mud bath to the other end of the hotel to rinse off (something like that happened to me before, I looked and felt like swamp thing) with the whole candles, nice relaxing music etc I went in bleary eyed and pale and when I came out I felt like I had just spent a week in a 5 star Spa in Thailand (minus the wallet stinging part). The price is actually really decent here, maybe due to the fact that it is outside the city centre but a 40 minute escale facial was €50 combined with full aroma stone body massage lasting 75 minutes was €100. I have been to places in the city centre that charged way more and I felt like I was paying for the location rather than the treatments. This place is a fantastic way to treat someone (or hey yourself) and the range of treatments is extensive, The one thing is though to make sure to make an appointment well in advance as they are usually booked up on the weekends in particular. They also do a full men's treatment list as well (I have seen some Macho lads come out looking suspiously fresh faced and sweet smelling, or maybe they all got lost on the way to the manly car garage...)
