The owner kept everything running smoothly and on schedule, never made us feel rushed which allowed us to relax and enjoy ourselves. We were greeted with champagne and a charcuterie board, which was really nice. We had massages, facials, and foot detoxes, and every single service was exceptional. The staff treated us like queens and made sure we were comfortable and taken care of the entire time. The spa itself is beautiful and was the perfect size, which made it very intimate and private. One of my favorite parts was that the entire spa was closed to the public and reserved just for our group. That alone made the experience feel extra special and personal. If you're looking for a place to celebrate a special occasion or just want a luxurious, private spa day, I highly recommend Camellia Alise. I would absolutely go back!

I've been wanting to go here for months and am so glad I finally had the opportunity!!…read more I went with my family on a Friday afternoon. We booked the 45 minute candle-making class not realizing there was a difference between it and the regular 2 hour long class. Trust me - there's a big difference! We realized we weren't going to figure out another time to do the longer class, so we doubled down on the 45 minutes. We really enjoyed picking out our vessels and scents for the candles. During the 45 minute class you get access to some but not all of the available scents. We enjoyed the mixing and matching and I settled on a couple floral combos for my candles. I like that they list different categories of scents that tend to go better together. Next, you measure out the scents to mix with your wax. Our chandlers did a lot of the heavy lifting (heating the wax and stirring) for us as we had our hands full. Finally, we poured out our wax and cleaned up! We were able to pick up our candles the next day and I've enjoyed the smells throughout my apartment SO much since then. I learned so much about candle care too. I even stopped by a few days later - they sell DIY kits for candles, soaps, and even bath bombs, which I got as a Christmas gift for a family member! I love that they encourage you to save your vessel to reuse at another class to make a new candle - I will certainly be doing that. They're pretty easy to access with free parking in rice village garages for 2 hours. I can't wait till next time I visit!

My husband is and honorably discharged Marine who started in the Navy and he is always open to me bragging him to new cultural events thank goodness! I booked this for our anniversary and was very shocked that my awesome husband was so dedicated and involved in the instruction given by our Love & Make teacher, Kim I. Kim I was very professional, informative, and such a pleasure to work with. We also greatly appreciate her patience with two old people who showed up for this event! Our class was full and while we didn't have time to meet the other participants and would have liked to, it was interesting to overhear their comments while they were celebrating their own milestones in life. The value for this class is five star!

My teacher, Cecilia, is fantastic! She is very knowledgeable and understands the difficulties English speakers have. Also she knows where each student is at and asks questions designed to allow us to practice what we know and learn some new vocabulary. She is very good at understanding what we want to say and helping us say it in French. I have heard from other students that the other teachers are the same. The immersion method used is a little tough at first, but you get used to it and it is really effective. Also the other students in my class are great. We always have fun in class and the time flies. The class prices are reasonable, actually a good deal for such small groups. After having taken classes here, I don't think I will ever go back to a college or university for lessons. If you want to learn French, I definitely recommend the Alliance Francaise!

The one in Houston is located in a cute historical mansion in the Montrose area and offers French classes, and various cultural events such as art exhibits, wine tastings, film showings, lectures (my favorite is the "Présentation d'actualité française" series which is when they invite a French journalist to discuss French current events en française, of course!) and other fun social events. I recently went to the 85th anniversary of the Alliance with my friend from Belgium and we had a great time! They served great food made by a local French chef and the wine was flowing in the large room, which also serves as an art gallery. There is a small library where you can rent books and movies. I took French lessons when I first moved to Houston 10 years ago and I remember the teachers being fun and all fresh off the boat from France! Great place to meet fellow ex pats, francophiles and people interested in learning the language. This is the go to place for all things French in Houston! Check out their website for upcoming events!

Writespace has become a wonderful resource for me as a writer, and I love watching it grow…read more Probably my favorite thing about Writespace is that it seeks to cater to more specific needs of Houston area writers. For example, there are classes that are geared toward specific genres such as horror, YA lit, etc. There are classes that focus on style, polishing your manuscript, finding an agent, etc. It's nice to take a class with a more specific focus (rather than something more general where it can be frustrating to get feedback from classmates who have no interest in your genre). The instructors have been great, and they are experienced writers who really know their stuff about the various aspects of writing and publishing (in part because many of them are published). Also, as a teacher with a very hectic schedule and living a bit outside of city limits, weekly classes in person aren't always ideal for me, but Writespace offers online courses as well as weekend courses to round out their weekly classes. I've been to several of the weekend classes, and they've all been top notch! I like that with my busy schedule, a weekend course is an easy commitment, and at the prices the classes are currently, I really feel I'm getting my money's worth and then some (a huge deal on a teacher salary!). I also tried out an online course (first time to ever try one since they were a very new thing when I was still in college and not offered for my area of study), and I was very pleased with the quality of the class. I would definitely recommend giving Writespace a try, particularly if you are a writer who is a) seeking high quality instruction and b) focused in a more specific are of fiction (such as horror, mystery, YA lit, etc).
