In the last 4 years while under the direction of Patricia Paquin the school each year has had several turn overs of staff. The school moral is at its all time low with several families choosing to take their kids else where. There is no behavior intervention for children nor staff. I have a student who is currently enrolled and our family doesn't see why our family has to look into other options when we have a high six figure paid leader who makes poor decision making and has an impulsive temper towards staff and students. I now call for action to all families that see the same as we do.

A certain snotty school pretty much passed on us because of my child's needs and I was forced to accept that we might need a "special" school. Sad and nervous, I set up an appointment for a parent tour the next day. Whether we get in or not, I can honestly give them five stars for the work they are doing. Where we've never felt like we fit in, there was a school where we could. This school is K-8 and just off of Montrose at Chelsea. Their goal appears to be to give children the ability to learn and develop skills in a safe environment with the intention of getting the kids back mainstreamed. It was crystal clear immediately that these people have the best intentions and the knowledge to fulfill those intentions well. This place is not cheap by any stretch of the imagination, but it is clear where the tuition goes. The ratio of teachers to kids is incredibly low and the children and staff alike seem happy. Ah, I forgot what that looked like. Best of all, the school was filled with kids just like mine. He was very relieved to finally be in the class and not stick out like a sore thumb. I don't know whether we'll be here in the fall, but I would highly recommend Joy to any parent whose child's needs aren't being met in a classroom setting due to ADHD, Tourettes, Autimism or the like. My son will be removed completely this coming up school year. There are a lot of staffs up there in office that don't exactly know what they are up there to do it's disappointing. Lockhart needs to get it together for the sake of some of the parents that are dealing with the same concern as I am and most importantly the students. Dr. Cosby is first and foremost a teacher. A very good and knowledgable teacher. He really does try to give understanding of what is in the Bible. Not his own interpretations but the word "For the Bible says" (he says that a lot) "Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves." Matthew 7:15 NIV Those of you that appreciate studying the word will love Service as well as Bible study (wednesday). The several wonderful choirs (Hanq is the minister of music), programs for youth, elderly, families, singles, young adults etc. if you can't make it watch online, download podcasts, buy tapes at the bookstore. There are so many ways to get yourself secured in the word of God. There are many things to help you not only in your spiritual journey but also the realities of life. I have taken theology in school for many years and this church just helps to increase my understanding. That's what people of faith should strive for...not to know all that is divine but to have knowledge of what is true about God and what is corruption of the Word. I have been attending Wheeler snce my sons were children, but had joined another church. I feel the…read moreLord led me back to Wheeler. This is where the uncompromising word of God is preached. This is where Jesus is lifted up always. Even though the church has a large membership and growing, there are 4 services, so the effort has been made for all to attend. There is bible study, many programs to help with everyday life. The ushers and greeters are friendly. I would recommend this church if you want to grow in the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. AND, if you want to learn the bible,, the truth of God's word. I pray the Lord continues to bless this wonderful body of Christians, led by William Lawson, Pastor emeritus and Dr. Cosby, the Pastor of Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church. Pastor Cosby and others have strived to make this a warm and friendly church environment and a great help to the community, also.
