I can say all that though and still give it 3 stars because I can see it isn't for me (too old/not alternative enough) but I've given it 2 stars because of the 'cocktails'. They make a big thing of doing 'fellowship' cocktails in pint glasses. They basically are made of fluorescent coloured sugars and low percentage cheap alcohol. They made me feel more sleepy and grumpy than anything- not exactly how you want to feel before you go out. They would be better getting a variety of decent cider/ales on tap which they could also charge £5 for but would actually taste like something. But if you're a student you'll love it, so this is just proof that I'm now incredibly old.

The decor transported me straight to a Parisian dancehall, with plush red velvet high backed sofas, and opulently designed tables and chairs. And if your really lucky you might see a showgirl performing on a giant swing above the bar area. The bar staff are really friendly and knowledgeable about what they are serving which is always a bonus! All in all you are guaranteed a really fun, and definitely different night out at Café Parfait. If your finding yourself bored with the usual bars and clubs you visit, then this is well worth a visit!

I just dont bother with this place or any other place in southampton cant wait when my course finishes in june so i can move back to london where there are more than one cool trendy bars to go to with a more mature crowd.

Even when there is an entrance fee its between £2 & £10.

Drinks can be expensive but theres usually something decent on offer if you look for it, especially on the student orientated nights. The crowd, usually rockers, are pretty nice, friendly, you don't get too much attitude in there the times I've been!

Its definitely a funky venue with two floors, a bar area downstairs and more of a club/dancing area upstairs with a bar. Excellent selection of European beers last time I was there with some new tastes for me and enjoyed it! Definitely worth a visit for live music and even nice during the day for a quiet drink.

My biggest complaint is too many tall people go and the atmosphere isn't usually very vibrant...I go to Portsmouth Guildhall and the people seem much more interested in the bands (and I can see over the top of them), its as though people in Southampton go to the wrong gigs?

The venue is mainly standing but there is a small balcony with a few seats. You can get close to the band. The sound isn't that good though. They sell merchandise just inside the entrance. There are bars on both sides of the hall and they are expensive. I paid £4.50 for a pint of cider. It definitely is not the best venue I have been to.
