The "real deal" night club in Southampton. I wouldn't use the phrase "the best" because it's so so…read moresubjective to just classify it as such. But this is definitely the most impressive. The venue is made up out of quite a few large rooms, dance floors, bar areas, and smoking terraces. The place is simply huge. After a few drinks you'd best be prepared for inevitably losing track of where all of your friends are, because if someone gets lost it's a miracle if they manage to rejoin the group. My experience of this place is pretty clouded to be honest. The drinks were so cheap on the Wednesday night I just totally lost track. I remember falling off of a bar stool. Drinking more. Losing everyone in my group. Drinking more. Doing The Worm (or trying to). Drinking more. And that's when my memory blanks out and I wake up the next morning feeling like death warmed up. What more can you possibly want from a night club?! Cheap drinks, great venue, huge array of rooms, plenty of smoking terraces, the list goes on. Of course, the club is defined by the night. Which is why I won't call it "the best"... but at the very least, it's great.

Decent on a Wednesday if you're a student on social. But on many times i've experienced extremely…read morerude bar staff and bouncers. The place is not a particularly fancy establishment but they still make you pay to check your jackets or jumpers, which has taken at least 20 minutes of waiting in line. However, on occasion, I get dragged along to one with a group of friends and I always hope that I will have a great time. I had fairly good expectations for this one, an 80's nightclub has to be a great opportunity to listen to fabulous cheesy songs and have a good giggle. We accessorised the night with 80's fancy dress and hair crimping. If I could rate the hair and the outfits alone it would be a definite five star experience! I did have fun but that was purely down to being out with a great group of friends. Unfortunately, the club ticked all the wrong boxes for me - primarily, it was hot and sweaty, the floor was so sticky I kept losing my shoes, and the bar smelt of vomit!! We were all ID'd on the way in, I'm not going to pretend that this was because we looked under 21, more a general door policy. I found the door staff quite rude and actually aggressive to other customers. The drinks were reasonably priced for a night club, but if it wasn't for the great tunes and an excuse to dress up, this would be a rare one star rating from me. Time to hang up my dancing shoes me thinks!

After the huge anticipation the club built up surrounding its opening and the novelty of a brand new super club in the city, the club has become a bit samey and stale. With a £5-£7 price tag (depending on what night you go) before you even step through the door, you are already down by a drink or two before you start. And with typical Cardiff club prices greeting you at the bar, you are often in for an expensive night. While Oceana can be a great night out that offers many diverse rooms for your clubbing pleasure (including a disco, karaoke and boudoir room), like anything, the novelty can begin to wear off if you attend on a regular basis. But for sheer popularity, Oceana stands tall as one of the most prominent clubs in the city. It regularly fills up on a Friday or Saturday night, with a host of DJ's gracing the stage, and is the club of choice for many on a bank holiday weekend. With Tiger Tiger just a short walk down the street, Oceana has some stiff competition right on its doorstep. But with its regular weekend and student nights consistently bringing in hundreds of customers, it can't be argued that Oceana is still one of the most successful clubs in Cardiff.

This place does not really care about any customer service. I guess its a club after all I suppose…read more I used to go there a lot but will not be returning. A friend of mine was asked to leave by the door staff (Jack I believe) just because he was tired as we all got there after a long shift in hospitality itself. None of my friends were drunk as they usually do not drink alcohol. But that one night that I asked them to go out with me and this was how I was embarrassed. Spoke to management, he did say he will speak to the bouncer and allow my friend in. I was too upset to even bother boing back in. Disgusting attitude. There were people who were actually asleep next to us but they were only woken up but not asked to leave. Are you kidding me??. What kind if discrimination is that?. And just so you know, those booths are meant for sitting.

With the lack of information available on Yelp for fun things to do at night in Southampton, I let the outdated and very positive posts sway me to taking a visit to the Buddha Lounge. The Good: This bar/lounge sits within an area with a cluster of other very similar bars/lounges. Security is very tight. You will need a valid ID and it will be scanned in a machine prior to your entrance. Security does a great job in not allowing too many people in at once. I found it to be crowded but not overwhelmingly so- there was room to walk around and as a New Yorker who has my personal space invaded every day on the subway, this place felt roomy AF. There was also a massive line to get in after midnight. The DJ here was playing fantastic music. It was a nice variety of popular songs like Bodak Yellow with classic hip hop mixed in. Couldn't help but dance. The Bad: The drinks were very WEAK. I ordered a cranberry vodka and the bartender measured an ounce of vodka into a plastic cup with lots of cranberry juice - I didn't taste a thing and I am not a seasoned drinker. I think a safe bet is to order shots or beer; or both. I'm assuming that the regular patrons know this since outside the bar people were staggeringly drunk. The Ugly: The crowd. This was by far the worst experience I have ever had at a lounge. Perhaps it is English culture but in a not so crowded bar, my small posse and I were elbowed, shoved, and bumped into all freaking night as if the place was as packed as the downtown 6 train at rush hour on a Monday; spoiler alert- it wasn't. I recall a few instances after being shoved, the jerk would wait for my reaction - possibly to start a bar fight. There is some very serious LDE among the males patronizing this bar. So, Not For me.

Cheap drinks, great music, amazing crowd of people, everything about this place leads each second of the night to glory. Well, except the actual state and hygiene of the place, but you'll hardly notice when you start having too much of a good time. Monday nights in Jesters are revered as just about the best Mondays in Southampton with 50p pints and shots. If you're looking to get drunk (for some reason on Monday) then you'll definitely want to show up here. You cannot go to Jesters without at least once ordering a Jesticle, what I like to call the 'Elixir of Dreams'. Despite a slightly cringe-worthy name, these pints of heaven are the essence of Jesters itself, filled with a concoction of vodka, rum, schnapps, and a dash of other ingredients all topped up with some juice and lemonade. While it may not sound appetising, I assure you that it is unbearably good. Not to mention it'll get you to the point of not needing to drink any more within a few pints. The dance floor, while chaotic, has an amazing vibe filled with some of the best music I've found from clubs. There's no generic, random beats and remixes, just good ol' songs that everyone knows and just about everyone in the club sings along to. Just a tip, don't pay too much attention to the floor in there, and definitely don't try to make it into the crowd with a drink in hand. Outside in the garden, you'll find plenty of space to sit, as well as lots of room to stand around, with a great balcony area fitted with lots of seating and tables away from the floor of the inside. Generally, the people in Jesters are friendly and all out for a good night, so if you're going on your own, it won't be difficult to find some drinking buddies to sing away with til the early hours of the morning. The toilets are the biggest eyesore (and not too great on the nose either) of the place, so I wouldn't recommend wearing your best shoes to this place. Security is good, no bouncers kicking you out for spilling a drink or denying you access because you're wearing trainers or shorts. Every single time I've been to Jesters has been an absolute blast, other clubs don't even compare. Despite it's status as the 'worst nightclub in the UK', you won't have more fun anywhere else. Oh, and don't forget to finish your night stumbling next door for some burgers and chips, that's an absolute must.

On the other side I have been severely let down in the past. I will explain...... Situated near Clifton Triangle and Park Street, The Bunker nightclub is open 6 nights a week with drinks starting from £1, popular DJ's, 3 rooms and a very large smoking garden. The queuing can be quite ridiculous so make sure you do not get there to late. Music ranges from chart music to dance and drum and bass with a raised seating area and large dance floor. The toilets are fairly small so expect a queue. On one particular night, they had let in far too many people on the venues legal capacity resulting in a 'power cut', which then the venue turned very much into 'a war bunker' with emergency lighting and scared people. Magically all the staff swiftly disappeared and there was literally no-one to tell us what was happening. Everyone started to pile towards the stairs to leave and no joke I was almost crushed to death and £5 out of pocket from the entrance fee. I was not happy!
