Awful. Bunker is known for accommodating a thriving student community, having good drinks deals which don't break the bank and ultimately a good atmosphere for a night out and this review does not dispute those claims. However, the reason for my rating is down solely to the staff they employ on the door. They can best be summarised as a collection of rude, mysoginistic, racist animals who take pleasure in exercising their allotted power.
These opinions are not 'few and far between' or simply arising from isolated events that have caused a cognitive sticking point. They are formulated from going to Bunker at least once a month for roughly three years. Although I could reel off numerous instances where behaviours which our society has long since condemned were practised with reckless abadon by Bunker's security; I will use last night as an example.
Before my statement I will say I was in no way conducting myself in an offensive or unacceptable manner and I was not drunk, granted I had bought a few pints prior at a bar but was in a state where I would have been admissible to any night club, let alone Bunker.
The abuse started when I approached the club. The line was almost completely empty as we had arrived quite late (around 1am). As I got to the front I smiled and handed over my driving licence. It was immediately handed back to me and I was told I looked like "a cunt" as were my two friends. This was swiftly followed by an overzealous push to the pavement which I'm sure could be constituted as assault. I didn't protest as I didn't want to antagonise this clearly highly aggressive man. There is still worse to come with this tale though. After the bouncer had escorted me to the side of the queue which was completely unnecessary as none of us were protesting in the slightest, he turned to my black friend and used racist language while looking him in the eye.
At first glance this forms a very typical "bad review aimed at security staff" as often plague Bunker, however what must be taken from this are not only the bouncers' actions but the sadistic pleasure they seemed to garner from behaving in that way. "Cunt" was snarled in a hateful tone, "fuck off" was said with such unnecessary violence and the racist language came with a self-satisfied smile indicating deep seated disturbances and unwarranted hatred contained in the form of an imposing, angry, shaven headed man.
Overall I am disgusted with Bunker for employing people like this, not just as a customer but as a human. The things I witnessed last night shocked me to my core and I would expect at the very least a change in staff and a re-education. read more
