Country fried steak, fries, fried okra
ChristyBryan H.

A Hidden Gem in Needville! We stopped by The Jay Cafe and were blown away! The country fried steak was perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside--just the way it should be. The jumbo shrimp were absolutely delicious--huge, juicy, and full of flavor. Everything tasted homemade and seasoned with love. The portions were large enough for 2-3 people! They also have homemade pies daily! The service was friendly and welcoming, and the small-town atmosphere made it feel like a home-cooked meal with family. If you're ever in Needville, this place is a must-visit. We'll definitely be back!

Small CFS, mashed potatoes (salad not pictured), gravy on the side.

Took my dad last night for Father's Day--he wanted their CFS. I had been hungry for fried mushrooms, and they had them. The only negative was that our appetizer, salad, and food came too fast. I'm not sure I had time to eat two mushrooms before all the food was on the table. Next time I'll order food after I eat appetizers. I love the food here.

Would like to recommend The Jay Cafe in the Tanger Outlet Mall. The chicken fried steak with 2 sides was amazing. We had fries and fired okra. The fried okra was fried perfectly, crisp, not hard or mushy. My husband and I shared a large CFS, it was plenty for us both. We bought a chocolate and a coconut cream pie to bring home. Just had the chocolate and it tasted great. Please visit this location, there's not a lot of foot traffic there and the owner is unsure he can remain open. You won't be disappointed. P.S. another customer was raving about how good his hamburger was. The owner was friendly and accommodating. #TheJayCafe

Catfish

Needed to feed some of our crew from Ramble Creek Grill who were competing in the crawfish boil at the Fairgrounds. I ordered cheeseburgers to go and an order of catfish. Everything was great! The catfish was mine and I almost stopped for more on my way home-outstanding! The staff was helpful and the food came out on time and complete

Beer was cold and good. Hamburger was good and juicy, fries…read morewere crispy and warm. The onion rings weren't bad. The Chicken sandwich was extremely dry, thin as a credit card and the entire sandwich was incredibly messy. The sauce had a good heat to it. The margarita was sadly the worst I've ever had. There was salt ground in the glass, if you like a salt block this drink is for you. The cheese pizza was ordered with the rest of the meal, but didn't come out until after everyone else finished their meal and after 15 minutes of someone in the party reminded them that we still had no pizza. The pizza looked good, and tasted ok. The crust was thin, the sauce wasn't too thick but it just delivered a flat flavor overall. The ambiance inside the restaurant is very nice if you like pool and tv. We ate outside on the porch because the inside smells of smoke so badly, even though we didn't see any traces of smoke or smokers. I'm giving them a 3 star only because the staff was nice and the burger was good; otherwise they would get 2 stars.

We would have to go to the bar and order more beer or ask for a yogi box. The second issue we had was the really bad music. Twice now there has been some awful music played. So bad we had to leave. This will be our last night at Halftime 36 Bar and Grill. Service sucks, food is all fried but not bad. Bottom line is, Spend your money elsewhere on a business that cares.

Do yourself a favor and ask for Alexandira to be your waitress…read more I mean wow, I was shocked at not only how good the food was, but the service as well. Alexandria was prompt, attentive, and explained special dishes to us first-timers perfectly while also allowing us to enjoy our food and not feel rushed. My fiance and I both worked in the service industry once upon a time. We will definitely be back, for the food yes, but mostly because of how incredible Alexandria was. They allow dogs and have a reasonable "puppy menu" if your bring your pet and want them to eat with you.

From the jump, the hostess greeted and seated us quickly, and our server was absolutely fantastic--attentive, friendly, and on point the entire time. We started with Hibiscus Margaritas, quickly upgraded to a pitcher (zero regrets), and jumped into appetizers. The roasted red pepper hummus with parmesan crisps surprised me in the best way--really good. The Brussels sprouts and lettuce wraps were the clear standouts, an easy 10/10 and the main reason I'll be back. Some other apps were hit-or-miss for my taste, but that happens. The vibe was relaxed and clean, with a nice buzz once the Friday after-work crowd rolled in. The manager checked on us multiple times, gifted us their house-made potato chips (Chef's Snacks--crispy and addictive), and even gave us appetizer coupons after hearing we work at a school and were scouting a spot for a happy hour social. That kind of genuine hospitality goes a long way. Solid drinks, strong food highlights, great service, and a welcoming atmosphere. Lazy Dog definitely earned a return visit.

I have been here 1 time with friends. My Dad and brother just went a few weeks ago and confirmed it…read morewas still as delicious now as it was 4 years ago. It is a smaller place, Trump Vance memorabilia was there when I went, so I have a Trump koozie and a FJB koozie lol It is a walk up to order. Employees were really nice. Now when I went, I got the mushroom swiss burger with fries. OMG this burger was huge. Fresh ingredients and the fries were outstanding. Hot salty and perfect! I hate I moved out of state, because I'll never get to eat another. But at least I still have the memory! Solid 5 stars across the board for my visit and from what my Family told me about theirs a couple weeks ago.

My yelp review about my thoughts of Trump Burger…read more Would I ever eat a burger with a burnt top bun with Trump's name all over it again? My answer would be hell nah and I would rather eat at the worst restaurant I've ever ate at in my life than eat at Trump Burger again. Or even eat my own dog's poopoo would be better than eating at such a big beautiful establishment. But with some thinking I decided to only go for the Roland's Deportation with NO KINGS combo meal and an ICE tea which is by far the best meal on the menu and the greatest combo meal found anywhere in the world to enjoy for limited time before they close up shop. The service was a bit rude there but at least the combo meal was good enough to enjoy before seeing Trump supporters throw ketchup all over the walls with some confusion about the owner's deportation and claiming the immigration system is rigged against the owner and that the ANTIFA Democrats are just out to get him.
