The ambiance is more of a nice multi course romantic dinner. We were looking for something a little faster..... but we had already wasted enough time. The service and the food came out relatively quick. Caesar salad was ok. Nothing too special. I had the chicken parm and once again it was a solid 4 stars. I took some local friends out for dinner here. Ambiance was really great! Loved all the local artists on display! So great! But was even better was the food! We each had a pasta as it was pasta Wed! Didn't know they had a pasta Wed!!! Could be back every Wed!!! We had the arancini to start and wow! Knock your socks off. Amazing! The chicken mushroom Alfredo was cooked fresh and so unbelievable and the lasagna left also an amazing review from my friend. Food was absolutely incredible. Tiramisu needs more coffee and but was eaten fast as well. Service was fantastic as well the chef came to ask if we were happy and if they'd change anything.We will be back. It was crusty but tasty; a bit too much oil for liking. My order was "Ravioli di Pollo al Pesto for $25. Tender morsels of chicken & ravioli tossed in a pesto cream sauce." IT came just as anticipated and was delicious and had more than enough chicken and the raviolili was cheesey & cooked to perfection. Right now you are probably wondering why only the 3 stars for the review??? *( Well...we WAITED for 75 minutes for our main course to arrive.) When we first arrived the restaurant was packed & we had to sit at the bar to get the last 2 seats ( normally a good sign). Unfortunately we were told an hour after ordering, that the kitchen was short staffed. Our server did not advise of the delay... & we had to ask for our own bread sticks ...while still waiting our water or wine was not topped up. (Nor was there any acknowledgement or price discount for the lack of service.) Yes... a good location & generally good food for a reasonable price. Just arrived in Vernon, BC and it's 40C! (104F). After checking in and cooling down at the lounge at the hotel, it's time for dinner!! Scanned Yelp for some ideas and very quickly decided on Italian, wanted some wine too!! 10mins from our hotel in Downtown Vernon, that's where the restaurant is located, enter and you are welcomed by a very friendly smile from the hostess, seating at a nice table near the back of the restaurant, you immediately feel relaxed and the cozy atmosphere makes you even more hungry! Menu has extensive selection of pasta and meat dishes, we ordered: To be shared: Pan Fried Calamari (with a sauce made from capers, black olives, tomatoes, cucumber, garlic, white wine and olive oil. Absolutely, delicious! The sauce is perfect for dipping your bread with! My main: Pescatori with Fettuccine The seafood includes: Scallops, Mussels, Clams, Prawns in a fresh tomato sauce with just the right amount of spice and herbs! Again the sauce is the killer, if I had more bread, they won't need to clean the plate! My partner's main: the classic Carbonara with Penne Creamy and savoury, the pancetta were fried to perfection and provided the right amount of saltiness for the pasta, no wonder this is such a comfort food for so many!! Visited the Italian kitchen last night with 4 other friends. Started Bruschetta came fairly quick but was old and had soggy bottom. We then waited 1hrs for next course. We're told just before it arrived that kitchen was overwhelmed as a large group was in. 4 of the 5 meals came out but one was cold. Also one meal was an additional 10mins later. If you're looking for more of an intimate dinning experience then this would be my choice. I have to give a shout out to our server as she was AWESOME, and so friendly! The food quality was bang on for the price that it is. The menu has just the right amount of variety that you can eat here multiple times with plenty of options, but not to many options that you'd have a hard time deciding. Whether it was the salads, chicken, or seafood selections that we ordered as a group, everyone enjoyed their meal and left satisfied as the portion sizes were just right as well. The day before the reservation I received a text further confirming the date and time of my upcoming reservation. Although we wouldn't have tried this place based on its exterior (their signs outside could use a fresh update), my parents have come here several times on trips to Vernon and highly recommended it. We're glad we listened to their advice! Food was delightfully yummy; their caesar salad is one of the best I've had in recent memory. I had the Primavera pasta in cream sauce and my husband had the Pescatore in a rosé sauce. Both were absolutely excellent and large portions so we're looking forward to leftovers for lunch tomorrow! Our server was not super friendly or chatty but overall did a good job. The hostess and other staff were very welcoming however. Very cozy restaurant with good music and comfy chairs at the front. This could be a real charmer if they reupholstered the chairs and updated the bathrooms. A little dark in the dining space, which could bother some, and there was a lot more noise at the back of the restaurant where there was a large group for a birthday dinner. We sat near the front where it was brighter and less noisy; we could see the kitchen and smell the food being prepped which is always nice. Unfortunately one of our fav's has fallen short of our expectations. Usually a 5 star, our last meal there was significantly off the mark. The mussels were tasty however the associated sauces were lacking and being a sauce mopper it left me short and wanting... Having been turned down at Tita's Italian Bistro at 9pm on a Saturday night we decided to walk on Vernon's main street and find a place to eat. As most places seemed closed or about to close we started to think about hitting Denny's, that's always the last option... Peering from the outside you can't tell much about this place so we walked right in and found a gem in the city! The place was hustling with people and the staff looked very friendly and unpretentious. The decor is very similar to brick walled places in Gastown decorated with candles and native arts and even liquor cabinets filled with liquor made in BC. We were shown to our table close to the entrance of the restaurant having view of all the delicious food being prepared which was delightful. I started off with a glass of house red which although full-bodied didn't have the flavours of a Chianti. My friend started off with a Peroni which is always refreshing and light. For food I had my eyes set on seafood so picked the seafood penne with a rose sauce, mixture of tomato and cream sauce. My friend ordered the Jambalaya, the Italian version. Although we were both starving after a rather intense hike, couldn't finish our meals. The portions are huge so I recommend you skip ordering appetizers. My seafood pasta was full of mussels, squids, shrimps with a creamy rich sauce a little on the spicy side. I had a few bites of the Jambalaya and it was filled with Chorizo, shrimp, chicken and lots of other delicious goodness. If you are craving Italian food in the interior with great service this place is a must visit for sure. read more

The food here is always over salted and over garliced! The food is overpriced for what you get. Very often I have to ask for a special garlic -reduced item and ask them to hold off on the salt. (Just tell them you have special dietary needs.) They have good service though. The staff are professional and seem to be well-trained. read more

Service is ok can sometimes be a little slow but hasn't ever been bad. We really like to order for take out though! Get the baked garlic And the Feta feta! For 5 years (as a local in Vernon) this has been on of my most favourite places to eat in Vernon and it had never failed... Until tonight. 2 out if 4 meal were wrong and one was almost inedible. However we have eaten here so many times when it's been some of the best food I have ever had, it's hard to not still love them. I hope that this was a one time deal. Extremely disappointed in The Italian Kitchen! Booked a reservation 2.5 weeks in advance of the all important Valentines Day. Received no notice or indication of a special limited menu. After arrival we were informed we had only limited meal choices and would be forced to pay $130 before tax & tip. This information was very important in our minds and nearly ruined our Lover's evening. Fortunately we found an opening at another restaurant and couldn't get out of there fast enough. We ordered the jambalaya and the feta feta with chicken. It was great being able to actually watch the cooks make our dishes (something rare in Vernon). 10 min after we ordered the food was ready. The Italian kitchen has all the makings of a hidden gem you would like to keep a secret so as to enjoy it's uniqueness all to yourself, however it seems the secret it out! When we arrived at 5:30, we took the last of the available tables. "Sorry, can you say that again?..." You will be using this phrase a lot during your meal as the decibel level steadily increases to that of a motocross race. More than once I was half expecting Occupation Health and Safety to bust through the door with noise meters in hand waving a shutdown order in the air. All jokes aside, this place is great! The food quality was fantastic, the service was very friendly and the atmosphere was very relaxing. I would liked to come back to this spot later in the evening when it was not so loud, or perhaps for a lunch. We had one small problem with our meal in that the main ingredient for our dish was missing. Once we notified our server, she quickly had a new dish made and to our table right away. I would recommend the Italian Kitchen to anyone looking for a great meal. It provides fresh, hot and delicious food in a atmosphere that has charm and personality. This place hops! It doesn't look like much from outside, but inside it is always busy during dinner time, with the open kitchen visible just as you enter. The welcoming aroma of fresh garlic and a mixture of all the sauces/pasta/seafood and other delicacies wafts out into the street.. The setting is casual, with brick walls and painted exposed venting above. Original artwork from local artists is rotated regularly and often available for purchase. Now let's get down to it: the food is fantastic. Our family favorite is the mussels.The mussel sauce is every bit as important as the mussels....it is like an alfredo sauce with soy, nutmeg, sundried tomatoes and spring onions. We order extra bread for sopping up the yummy sauce! Everything we have ever ordered is great: jambalaya, lasagna, veal, bocconcini salad, minestrone, and don't forget the homemade tiramisu and gelato. The wine specials are up on the blackboard, and feature local as well as international favorites. My brother (who is disabled) and I went to the Italian Kitchen on Sunday Night. We were greeted very quickly when we entered the restaurant, we were given a table at the front in an alcove that was very comfortable and very suitable for my brothers walking challenges. He had the Pernod Prawns as an appetizer, I had the Caesar Salad, both were excellent. My brother wanted to lick the bowl because the sauce was so delicious but held back and removed all the remaining sauce with his spoon. The server was very friendly and very attentive. For Mains, my brother had Lasagne and Garlic Toast, I had the Veal Parmigiana and spaghetti with their signature sauce, and some lovely fresh local vegetables, roasted beets, spaghetti squash, and broccoli. We shared a 1/2 litre of Red Italian wine which paired very well with our choices. To finish I had Crème Caramel, which came with a side of whipped cream and sliced strawberry, my brother had the New York Cheesecake with berries, whipped cream and a sliced strawberry. All beautifully presented and the taste was heavenly. We had tea & coffee with our desserts. It is our new favourite restaurant, time well spent in a lovely place with great food. A good place for lunch maybe not so much for dinner. Pretty quite atmosphere with decent food. I've definitely had better Italian food than this but it was just a quick lunch on the way to kelowna. The pasta proportions were very small so the prices were overpriced for what you get. The pasta itself was good. I don't think I would go back...
