Initially, I was skeptical of doula service - with the medical professionals, my husband & my mom, why would I need another stranger in the room? Only after the strong recommendation of my close friend, who said a doula was invaluable during her birth, did I look into it. And boy, was she right. My baby was positioned posterior, which meant I had unbearable protracted back labor without meaningful dilation. Of course, my husband and my mom wanted to help, but they didn't know exactly how despite watching numerous pain management videos. I ended up calling Eri while I was still in early labor, and her expertise (Rebozo scarf, different pressure point massages, stretches, labor positions) and her warm yet empowering presence got me through the dark moments when I wanted to give up and ask for medical interventions. Eri not only made sure I was feeling safe and cared for, but also supported my husband and my mom by telling them how to help, reassuring them, and encouraging them to take a nap and eat for the long labor marathon. Eri stayed with me overnight past her shift for total 14 hours (4PM - 6AM) until she made sure both the baby and I were safe and happy. Long story short, now I recommend Eri to all my pregnant friends. I tell them her service was the best money I've spent in years.

I explained my feelings, and although she was at a birth, she had a few minutes to talk to me. She told me that birthing classes may help educate me and calm my nerves quite a bit. So we ended up setting a time to meet a few days after we talked. She has a prenatal table with a cutout/basket to support the belly, so I was able to lay on my stomach for the first portion (at 38 weeks pregnant this is the best thing ever!) I went in with a lot of tension, soreness, and stiffness in my hips and low back (pretty typical pregnancy aches and pains) and left feeling very close to normal and tension-free. I've also had more energy all day since receiving the massage. The office is decorated really nicely - clean, modern, and calming. She played relaxing music during the massage and the temperature was very comfortable in the room. Her location is easy-to-find and there was a reserved parking space for massage clients just outside the door. I plan to return for a post-natal massage and highly recommend Exie's massage services to all pregnant women looking for some relief and relaxation. I'm already working with another birth doula, but if I were still looking, I would certainly consider hiring Exie as my doula.

I ultimately choose Bonnie not only because she came highly recommended by a friend of a friend, but also her expertise being a retired L & D nurse. It was important to me to work with a doula that had a medical background. I wanted someone that would understand my desires to have a natural birth but also had the knowledge to tell me when intervention was needed - which in my case it was. Included in Bonnie's fee were two classes that were extremely helpful to both my husband and I , unlimited phone calls and texting communication, she sent me recipes for teas and a prenatal diet plan, and one home visit visit postnatal. Not to mention the obvious that she was there for the birth of my baby girl. Bonnie was the best person to have by my side through this experience! Worth every penny.

Our night nanny was absolutely incredible and she literally saved our lives during a challenging time. However, the service was not forthcoming about their process and practice. They do not pre screen their nannies and the tips go to their service, not to the nanny who has been working to help the family. In addition, the service did not check in with us during the process, nor did they disclose that they only use one nanny, rather than "matching" a family's needs with a particular person. This discredited the service entirely and Iwould not recommend its use due to poor integrity and questionable business practice. In addition, we paid an extremely high rate for the service with a large portion going to the service and not our nanny.

And I honestly can't express how extraordinary my labor experience was. The level of care provided to me and my beautiful son was unmatched. When I was a patient at Women's First - I felt there was very little attention paid to educating first time parents and the overall care was very industrialized (even from the Midwife) it's basically churning out care and I have really heard negative things about the coldness of care at Beaumont. Without getting too deep into the details - I had a very long labor (30+ hours) - ended up getting drugs - and pushed for 4 straight hours. Every step of the way my hand was held by the beautiful woman of the ABC (Midwives Emily, Andrea, Danielle and Nurses Christy & Jesse) all supported me like family - joined by our doula (Metro Detroit Doula Service (a must) and my husband. It was difficult and unbelievable all wrapped in one huge life changing experience. We also were so well cared for after the fact in the wonderful ABC (we stayed 2 nights) and I really believe the success my son & I have had with breastfeeding is due to the great guidance of the nurses. I wish more women/families knew this is how your birth experience should/can be. I will sing their praises forever and hope they understand the valuable place they have within our family. It seems amazing care is rare these days. If you're thinking about the ABC you're in the best hands.
