I wish I could give the team at LLB&F more than 5 stars. I hired them for doula services, birth…read moreclasses, and lactation advices for my first pregnancy. I started with them in April/May and am still using them for support after my baby has been born for 2 months now. With COVID being an issue this year, the team is regularly tested before they visit you and wear masks at all times. They offer online courses, consultations, and tons of resources. The consultation we initially had to determine if I wanted to use them as my doula(s) was simple and felt very natural. They were all so easy to talk to and they answered all my questions thoroughly and made my feel at ease that I knew right away I wanted them as my doula. I had the Down and Dirty birth classes with Christie. There were 2 classes. Both were for what I could do during pregnancy to ease my body, exercises to do, plans for after birth, plans for during birth, what I could expect before, during, and after birth, and even a short newborn section on how to care for my baby when we got home. She was so detailed and gave so many resources for my spouse and I to review together. It was honestly so much better than reading a dozen birth books or watching youtube videos of similar classes. During my pregnancy, I was given a team of 3 doulas (Lisa, Kate, & Kelly) that I could contact at any time for questions, pregnancy concerns, venting, or whatever I needed. They were always helpful and made me feel comfortable to talk to them about anything, including the gross stuff associated with being pregnant. During my birth, Lisa was on call and arrived at the hospital very quickly since I went into spontaneous labor. She helped me get comfortable since I was attached to 2 different IV's and was restricted to only being on the bed and helped me advocate for myself since I had a lot going on and pressure to break my water and start pushing when I wasn't ready. She helped my spouse with affirmations and what he could do to stay comfortable, help me, or even get food while she stayed in the room. While I was giving birth, she was great at coaching helped me push and helped my spouse with what he could do to help me as well. They were a great team that I definitely needed. Lisa stayed for a few hours after baby arrived. She made sure everything was going smoothly, that my spouse and I were okay, that baby was okay, we were getting enough skin-to-skin time and additional food/water if we needed it. Postpartum, the team stayed in contact every day to make sure I was doing okay. LLB&F offers house support during the day or at night but I opted out due to COVID. Kate is my lactation consultant and I needed her 2 days after I came home from the hospital. I was having a meltdown on breastfeeding and she was there that night to help me out. We went over everything I was concerned with, including the different bottles I had and their flow, how my baby was latching and different ways to hold him, and how to express my milk, pump, and gather it during breastfeeding. I have stayed in contact with her for weeks and even months now with random questions or concerns I have during my baby's growth with breastfeeding. Kate has always been there for me and at this point I consider her one of my friends thats how close we have gotten through this journey. I have recommended LLB&F to all of my friends and family who plan on having kids. My excitement and happiness with them throughout my entire pregnancy journey has been unmeasurable. I'm so happy I chose them and will be using them again. As if their personal care wasn't enough, they also offer affordable doula support for those who need it and they are active in the LGBTQ+ community as well. I have learned so much through them and am still learning every day from their Instagram @livelightdetroit. Thank you Christie, Kelly, Lisa, and Kate for giving me the best support, learning tools, and now a lifetime of friendship. I can't wait to see you all again.

This is ultimately the reason we decided to hire a Doula. We wanted to feel confident in our decisions related to birth, feel comfortable going into labor, and feel supported all along the way. Live Light Birth Doulas provided all of this and more!!! We don't have enough positive and amazing things to say. Natasha and Rachel were incredible to work with. From the very start, we felt super comfortable. We were provided with so much information that we would have never gotten or had time to research on our own. They also have a Down and Dirty birth class that we took that we found to be very useful in educating ourselves further. Any question we had, Natasha and Rachel were there to answer and provide guidance - literally all hours of the day, every day of the week. That was extremely reassuring! They were right there beside us the remainder of our pregnancy, during our birth, and even postpartum. The support we received was second to none and I truly am so appreciative of them. They are so kind and caring. Natasha and Rachel really listen to what YOU want and how YOU want your birth plan to go. They listen to your wants and needs. They help you create your birth plan based on those wants and needs. And most importantly, they help you feel confident in the decisions you are making. We also worked with Claire during the lactation workshop - learning more about breastfeeding and again, found extremely valuable if you are even considering trying to breastfeed. If you are thinking of hiring a Doula, we highly recommend Live Light Birth! Every part of this process was an amazing experience, and we owe that to the knowledge and support they gave us!

Exie is extremely professional, knowledgeable, and passionate about her work. I was shocked (in a good way!) that the consultation before the massage was quite thorough and did not cut into our hour of massage time. I hadn't experienced this anywhere else; the amount of time you pay for at Tranquil Touch is the amount of time that you are actually on the table being massaged. Exie was very receptive to what type of massage I wanted, any injuries I had, and what areas were causing problems, and tailored the session to meet those needs. She made me feel very comfortable, both physically and emotionally. I can't recommend her more highly!

She has a prenatal table with a cutout/basket to support the belly, so I was able to lay on my stomach for the first portion (at 38 weeks pregnant this is the best thing ever!) I went in with a lot of tension, soreness, and stiffness in my hips and low back (pretty typical pregnancy aches and pains) and left feeling very close to normal and tension-free. I've also had more energy all day since receiving the massage. The office is decorated really nicely - clean, modern, and calming. She played relaxing music during the massage and the temperature was very comfortable in the room. Her location is easy-to-find and there was a reserved parking space for massage clients just outside the door. I plan to return for a post-natal massage and highly recommend Exie's massage services to all pregnant women looking for some relief and relaxation. I'm already working with another birth doula, but if I were still looking, I would certainly consider hiring Exie as my doula.

This was probably the worst and most useless expense in my life. In short, here is my advice to all…read morenew moms considering this service: Beaumont nurses are wonderfully helpful, and even if you don't have a husband who can support you, they will do doula's jobs MUCH better than this particular company. Every time I had trouble holding my baby, or recalled my traumatic birth experience during a very painful recovery, I very much wished I saw a review like this before I hired these women. Hoping my feedback will help someone avoid my mistake. For those who want to know the details, here is my story. I'll start by saying I did very much like Gina personally, she is sweet and charming. Hiring a doula was a decision made out of fear of my first birthing experience, and being far away from my support system, family and friends. Gina and Nicole sounded wonderful during initial visit, they were completely onboard with my plans to go natural, as my pregnancy was healthy and uncomplicated. I didn't have any illusions and understood that everything could go differently on the actual due date, but I felt more confident with doulas on my side. I was promised advocacy, support, and knowledge. I was also promised they will be available if I am late or early, no matter what. This is all I needed. Even if my birth plan went out of the window. Everything went wrong from the very beginning. We went to the hospital after a while after the contractions started and intensified and the water broke, but doulas were not able to join us there, or advise when they would. Medical staff did not believe that the water broke and pushed us into invasive checkup. We didn't want any interventions, so my husband called the doulas yet again, and again there was no support or coherent advice."Just do what the medical staff says", was all we kept hearing. What did we pay for then?? Everything we discussed at initial visit seemed to be completely forgotten and we both felt neglected and scared. After that it was just a cascade of interventions, as it usually happens. Gina was not available, and Nicole arrived after several hours. She stood there with her drink and chatted with my husband while I was walking around experiencing contractions that kept getting more and more painful. Luckily my husband stepped up and did the doula's job - he massaged my back and reminded me to breathe. In a bit Nicole started to convince me to go walk in the hall to speed up contractions. As many women in labor, I didn't want to go anywhere out of the room or see anyone outside. We discussed this at our initial meeting, I wanted to be focused on the birth and not have any distractions. Back then the doulas were agreeing with me. I was still feeling fine, walking around the room, using the ball, breathing and listening to my hypnobirthing tracks. Never even putting her drink down, Nicole kept pushing me to go for a walk. At some point it got so irritating for both me and my husband that we politely asked her to leave. Gina was not available due to being at a postpartum shift. Despite promising me my due date (I was 4 days earlier) and several days before and after she will be available. After we dissed Nicole, Gina told us she would make it to us herself, and she did after a while. We were glad to see her, as she and her sweet demeanor was a welcome change from Nicole. However, here are several things that made me extremely disappointed in Gina as well: first of all, there was no advocating for me even once. She was supposed to help me choose natural, she never once did. Hence pitocin, epidural, and eventually C-section. There was no moment during labor when she was helpful. At one point I opened my eyes after briefly passing out to see her sleeping on my husband's spot on partner's couch, while he was dozing in the chair. Poor guy who did all their job, not to mention was sleep-deprived and worried sick! How unprofessional can you be to sleep at work taking your client's spot? During active labor all I remember is her yawning by my side. Non-freaking-stop. Can you imagine how irritating that is when one is in that much pain? These doulas also have very misleading website where they advertise services they don't provide as a part of the birthing package, for example, visual birth plan. When we pointed this out, they simply said they didn't have a chance to delete these services yet. Those services are still listed as part of their package. I did send them this feedback in response to their feedback request, hoping they would at least apologize. All I got was "Thank you for your feedback". I feel bad about their future clients that will get as unlucky with them as I did, so I have to post this here. Please be careful and be confident. Medical staff is helpful enough. Unfortunately, doulas are way overrated, if we take these ones as an example.

I didn't plan to write a review - however when my friends who knew I was hiring a doula asked how…read moremy birth experience was with one and I told them, they all urged me to say something so that other mothers could be informed. And then when I was writing my son's birth story in his baby book and the doula was the ONLY piece that I wish I could erase from memory (of my pain med. free birth, I might add!) - I knew I had to speak up. In my experience with Detroit Doula Co I was assigned a doula 'team' of two so that they can share on-call time for the birth. My doulas were Nicole & Mary. I was also asked to fill out a questionnaire of sorts (very similar to a birth plan) so that they could see what my vision for my birth experience was. They questionnaire was actually pretty great, it kind of forced my husband & I to discuss all sorts of birth related things and gave us an opportunity to really get on the same page about details or things that we were not familiar with. When we met with our doulas at our house (on our second attempt; Mary needed to reschedule our first planned meeting due to a "family emergency" - my husband had to take off work twice as a result) neither had even read our questionnaire and seemed completely unprepared when they sat down to talk with us. I was taken aback when one of the first things Nicole said to us was something along the lines of the first meeting really being mother/family lead! They just wanted us to ask them questions. It was an awkward position to be put in but we went over the questionnaire we'd filled out with them and talked about my wishes. We ended the meeting feeling good. We were happy with the experience as doulas that they portrayed and we were comfortable with their demeanors. We all texted periodically throughout the pregnancy with updates. It was all fine until just before my due date when Nicole texted to check in and called me by the wrong name. I expected more from some one hired for such a personal experience. But I brushed it off and we planned when we wanted a doula to be with us at the hospital after I was induced. On my son's birthday, Nicole arrived at the hospital when I was about 5cm like we'd planned. By then, I was getting pretty uncomfortable. I was sitting on a birth ball when she arrived. The single piece of advice she gave my husband was to put some pressure on my lower back. Very shortly after my wonderful nurse offered that I try the shower where I ended up spending my entire labor. Nicole made very very little effort to be present or help as I labored. She would check in with my husband every so often to ask how I was doing and a, 'fine, I think" would send her away. Once my husband left to grab some food for himself and when I peeked out of the shower to see who was with me I could see Nicole camped out on one of the chairs looking at her phone. I asked my husband after to make sure my memory wasn't skewed from pain and he confirmed - Nicole spent most of my labor playing on her phone. When it came time to push the nurse asked Nicole to please come hold a leg and she obliged. After my son's birth she sat back down. The nurse asked her to please go and get me some apple juice to help me feel better. She acted surprised that she was being asked to make herself useful. And I think the worst part of all of it was feeling her eyes digging into me as I first held my son. It's hard to describe but it didn't feel like happy on-looking. Soon after I politely told her that it was OK for her to go. After they texted me three days after my son was born to see how I was feeling, they never checked in with me again (now 5 months + pp and even though they were contracted to provide one postpartum visit I never heard another word from either doula - not that I would even want one at this point). Overall the lack of care was disgusting. My husband & I were extremely disappointed with our experience with our doula and were are upset that we wasted our money and tainted our birth experience with the doula's negative presence.

We chose induction and sent her home for a while as we knew it was going to be a long day. She kept continuous contact via text and made the call to come back on her own once my waters had broken. At that point I was handling contractions great, but within an hour of her arrival they intensified quickly, like she knew exactly when I would need her. She was a continuous calming presence for me, helped my husband in supporting me, and provided a barrier between me and the constant interruption of doctors and nurses checking in. When baby started having scary heart decels she remained calm and warned me a lot of people were about to come into the room and what was happening. Despite knowing things weren't going the way I wanted her demeanor helped me remain calm. The call was made to have a repeat c section. Angela accompanied us to the OR for a 2-ish hour surgery as I had so much scar tissue from prior c sections. Our preemie was born an hour in and my husband followed her to the NICU. Angela stayed with me holding my hand and telling me what was happening almost the entire time, only leaving my side when I requested her to get an update on my baby. She followed me to recovery and stayed until I was ready for her to leave. My husband had been concerned about whether a doula would be "worth it" in the event of a c section, and I can confidently say she was worth every penny and I would do it all over again. In fact, if we didn't live so far away (almost 2 hours) I would hire her for postpartum care as well. She has continued to remain in contact during our NICU stay, checking in on me, my healing, my mental state, and asking about baby. We love Angela and are so grateful for the love and care she provided us through this beautiful and scary experience.
