Basically the gist was that the expected lifetime of modern energy star fridges is 10-13 years, and since we were already on year 11, the fix was probably not worth doing but would cost roughly $200 if we chose to do so. We were super disappointed that our $1,000 Whirlpool appliance only lasted 11 years when our parents fridges lasted until they retired, but that's the way of things these days I guess. We really appreciated the honest assessment and professional demeanor. We'll definitely contact Tempest if we need any future fridge fixes.
