What better way to enjoy a summers evening than kick back by the river with a glass of wine or a…read morepint of the cold stuff? I've found Kingston to be a little hit-and-miss when it comes to bars and pubs but Woodys is the perfect spot for those long warm summer evenings us Londoners like to take advantage of. We visited for a friend's birthday last month as she'd spotted the pub on her jogging route and we were all smitten by its charm. Inside is a mish-mash of furniture with arm chairs, kitchen chairs, dining chairs and an old piano sitting in the corner. They even have a box of toys for the kids (although the Mr Potato Head may attract the likes of me also) so mums and dads can relax while the kiddies play. The prices were reasonable and while I hit the wine menu many of my chums opted for their cider. The food coming out of the kitchen looked tasty although we didn't eat there, and the staff were extremely friendly and attentive. The whole place has a lovely vibe and indeed, as the manager says, it feels like an extension of your living room. If you're out and about in Kingston and fancy a beverage head over to Woodys for a lovely chilled out vibe...and perhaps a bit of play time with Mr Potato Head.

The entire bar decor could be described as shaby sheik run amok. The crowd is an odd crossbreed of hipsters and wanna be yacht club members (60+). Its not a great place to go and have to good of a time, you might disturb the status quo. Its obviously the victim of wanna be middle class gentrification, and also don't go hungry, you won't find more than a bag of crisps. The location is great, and at least they have a clean toilet. Don't disturb the blonde bald dragon (barkeep) and keep to the status quo (tightpants and bangs over your eyes) and you might just fit in nicely at Woody's.

It's a lounge for First British Airways customers located in Terminal 5 at London Heathrow. The most premium feature of our visit was being able to dine in the private pre-flight dining booths. This is basically a restaurant-type experience. The food (we ate breakfast) was good and the high partitions in the dining area gave a nice sense of privacy. The service was top-notch and this was the best part of visiting The Concorde Room. After eating, we camped out in the lounge for what was thought to be about an hour, but turned into 3 hours with multiple flight delays. Good news is that the lounge is nice and does offer some outdoor dining as well, so there was plenty of natural light, but the lounge could've benefited from more partitions and more privacy. The decor is fine, but lacked the elevation and sophistication of other first class lounge products. The part where The Concorde Room loses a star is in the bathrooms. They are rather small, gender-neutral restrooms with poor lighting and they really felt like something you would've seen in just a regular terminal. Nothing luxurious about the restrooms whatsoever. Overall, The Concorde Room definitely delivers in the dining realm, but loses its luxury focus in other aspects of its execution.

After some time guzzling pitchers of Pimms Cup in the garden, we made our way inside for the show. Hats off to these performers. Maybe I was just wasted, but I felt like I was having a fever dream at the Moulin Rouge - in the best way possible. Get in here. This place rocks.

For the Friday evening Cabaret you have to book ahead which only cost £5 up to the last 2 weeks before which is when it goes up to £8 and you get to watch some weird and wonderful cabaret acts during the course of the evening. As far as the acts were concerned it was a bit hit and miss and I was expecting a few more. We had a hula hooper and a contortionist which was insane to watch!! An aerial hoop act which was impressive but quite short, a juggler who probably didn't need to be there and the finale .... Rayguns Look Real Enough who were a comedy music mashup duo who were fabulous!! Highlight of the evening! As a while though I think the acts were a but hit and miss and unfortunately the compere wasn't going down too well either!! Oh well!! But the evening was incredibly fun and once they cleared away the stage it turned into a dance floor and the DJ played an array of hits from 50's through to today with a lot of emphasis on 80's and 90's hits which were great to sing and dance along to. Before the show started we did have a table so we could eat food and there was your usual selection of burgers and salads etc. I went for the veggie falafel burger and to be honest it was extremely bland and needed a hell of a lot more tzatiki and condiments to improve it's flavour! It's great that I was subjected to the usual fried vegetable burger and there was a mushroom risotto on the menu but the burger definitely needed more flavour. It was a bit more like mushed falafel and falafel needs to be a little more grainy I think!! The chips were good though, hand cut, crispy edges and soft in the middle - mmm!! As for drinks they do have a selection of ales on tap, some local, a porter and a stout that were exciting some and all the other usual things a pub can offer. Price wise I think it was pretty reasonable. All in all we did have a great evening and I probably would go again. The place is new so it is probably still getting it's sea legs a little but do pop down for an alternative evening of circus acts and then fun music to dance the night away to - we stayed so late it was a night bus home!! Always a good sign!! Xyz
