I currently belong to orange theory and in the last I have done CrossFit, yoga, kickboxing, HIIT, TRX classes and more. I used to belong to barre3 in Salmon Creek as well. I'm not new to fitness world and am very familiarized with how it works. I have a 6 month old baby at home and am able to run out the door for a workout class a few times a week when my husband gets home. Today, I was looking forward to trying Pure Barre as the location is close to our house and I anticipated enjoying it enough to exclusively sign up with them. I walked in at 5:25pm, immediately the energy coming from the front desk receptionist (didn't catch her name but she was an Asian woman) was super snarky and pretentious. She was very unprofessional, unwelcoming and rude. She immediately started pressing in to me that I was late. Even though class didn't start for another 5 minutes. Excuse me? What? Apparently if I am not 10 minutes EARLY then I am .... Late. In all of my 32 years on this planet, never have I heard of being late if you aren't 10 minutes EARLY. I'm still scratching my head on that one. She starts going on about a late fee and telling me she knows nothing about me and my history or if I have injuries. Again, what?! I don't have injuries that are current or could be considered problematic and If I did, I would have informed you far in advance before deciding to show up to class. She then told me that I could not join class if I don't have special "sticky" socks. So I am new to Pure Barre but have taken two other types of Barre classes in the past and have never been required to purchase a special kind of sock. Even still, that's fine. All good and fine, that's the issue. The issue was her tone, her attitude, her delivery. I have never felt so unwanted at a place in my entire life. I'm still just sitting her in shock about the way I was treated . I run two very successful business' and not in a million years would I make a client feel the way that this woman has made me feel. I would never speak to someone in such a disrespectful manner and I certainly wouldn't start threatening someone with late fees when they are 5 minutes early versus 10. I was in such utter disbelief that I could hardly explain to this woman that all of this felt very cold and unwelcoming. I had no problem buying the sticky socks but she could have kindly expressed that this type of barre requires them. To whoever owns this franchise, I would HIGHLY encourage you to look in to the staff running your office. You just lost a potential long term member because of your receptionist and her lack of professionalism. Anyone looking to find a new studio or regimen, do yourself a a favor and go anywhere but here! I can vouch personally for orange theory fitness, the TRX Results gym across the street, Barre3, Burntown Fitness on 192nd is fabulous. Seriously, anywhere but here.

She made the entire class feel so fun, upbeat, welcoming, and personalized to our group. We had a mix of girls with different fitness levels and she balanced it perfectly by making it approachable while still giving options to challenge yourself. She also worked so well with our playlist and energy, which made the whole experience feel even more special and personalized for my birthday. Every single person in my group kept talking afterward about how much they loved Krista, her teaching style, the studio atmosphere, and the class itself. The studio is beautiful, clean, and such a good vibe. You can tell Krista genuinely cares about creating a positive experience for everyone. I'm so thankful I celebrated there and I already can't wait to come back. Highly recommend for both regular classes and private events!

Carrying my ever-growing child had become painful in my abdomen and I overall felt like pregnancy had wiped out my strength and confidence in my body. My efforts to remedy the situation myself had proved fruitless. My initial consultation with Jessa was enlightening -- she saw and understood so many things about my body and its condition that I would never have figured out on my own. Over about six months and 8-10 sessions (mostly via Zoom), Jessa crafted and incrementally enhanced an exercise routine to build back my core strength, straighten my curved spine, and resolve my mommy pooch. After a few months, the results became obvious and encouraging. I have not historically been an "exercise person" and approaching a personal trainer felt intimidating. I appreciate that Jessa met me where my knowledge and skill level was at, took the time to explain the exercises and their purpose, and adjusted the program to accommodate the amount of time I had to realistically spend on exercise during my busy days as a working parent of a toddler. Working with Jessa helped me regain a sense of agency and ownership over my body that I had lost during the experience of pregnancy and I'm grateful to have found her.

Jessa has added both a stretching class as well as a 'Mod 45' class which has less cardio for people who may not be quite ready for the challenges of her regular hour-long Mod Physique class. As Jessa's been teaching more and there are more regular students, she's expanding into even more challenging sets that focus on inner and outer thigh work, glutes, hip flexors, and... burpees. :) My abs have never been this strong, and I can definitely tell that I don't jiggle much at all when I go running on my non-Mod Physique days. Jessa is supportive, insightful, really knows her stuff and is there to assist and correct so that everyone is using their best form during the workouts. Come give this amazing combination a try!! Easy location to park nearby; new facility, super-helpful and supportive staff. The workout is an intense hybrid of cardio, Pilates-style core work, weights, strength/lengthening and in a vaguely circuit-training style... all on cushy mats in bare feet so you have fabulous control. Jessa, you're amazing and I'm so, so glad you've opened up your studio here in Portland!! If you're looking for something to combine intense core work and cardio and barre, ~: this is it!! :~

Aside from begin close to home what brought me in was the class title, Beginners yoga. I have no idea what the different kinds of yoga are or what class names mean, this was perfect for someone new who doesn't know what they're doing - class descriptions are great but this name just made it easier to book for me. The class itself was challenging but I also was made to feel like I could take a break when needed and, that I didn't have to do everything. This was key, I felt encouraged and supported to do what felt right. I'm feeling it the day after but it's a good tired and sore, I earned this. Again, being new I had no idea what I was doing and I felt like the instructor, Sam, was excellent. Sam explained the positions in an easy to grasp manner, was attentive to all of us, and also showed us how poses progress and what they look like doing them in a more advanced manner. I thought this was the best part of the class, I was able to see what I should do, instructed in how to get into position and helped in doing the poses when I needed. And, I got to see some variations on poses. For me this kind of teaching works best, an explanation and a visual, and then progression. I cannot stress how comfortable I was made to feel asking questions and not being very good. I'd gone down a google rabbithole about yoga before going to class and almost talked myself out of going but I have to say the atmosphere of the studio, Sam's explanations of what to do, how to do it and getting into why really helped me let go of apprehensions and just be there in the moment. I really like how we got to center ourselves before we started doing anything and at the end of class we took time to center again as a way to end the session. I am looking forward to going back and highly recommend Roseway Yoga.
