I hosted my birthday Pilates class at The Practice Space and genuinely could not have picked a better studio. Krista, the owner and instructor, was AMAZING from start to finish. She made the entire class feel so fun, upbeat, welcoming, and personalized to our group. We had a mix of girls with different fitness levels and she balanced it perfectly by making it approachable while still giving options to challenge yourself. She also worked so well with our playlist and energy, which made the whole experience feel even more special and personalized for my birthday. Every single person in my group kept talking afterward about how much they loved Krista, her teaching style, the studio atmosphere, and the class itself. The studio is beautiful, clean, and such a good vibe. You can tell Krista genuinely cares about creating a positive experience for everyone. Lily is my favorite to frequent. She switches it up every time, knows what exercises to "prescribe" based on what your body needs, and makes the workout slightly challenging, but manageable. The small group classes are worth the subscription! My body would not be the same without this place. Warnings for: adjectives, hyperbole, nuanced gushing. I decided in early 2017 to avail myself of some amazing resources literally across the street. I have a new, very early work schedule, and decided to treat myself to the opportunities just a half block up. For you young'uns like me, you may remember the Cheers song of 'where everybody knows your name.' This is how I felt from my very first walk through the doors, bringing my beloved husband who used to be a gym bunny, but that was back in the early 90s, and prior to a major back injury. I'm not a newbie to Pilates, but I'd never availed myself to Reformer work. Not only does Cascadia have Reformer classes for those with back, hip and any other issues, but they ratchet things up for those of us with a ballet background who think we're so strong. Until we're not. If I could quit my job, I would spend my entire day here, taking class after class, getting stronger and stronger and wrapping myself up in the positive energy that exudes from everyone on the staff. I'm now going to musical metaphors, another part of my background. I honestly have no idea who the actual studio manager is, and it doesn't matter. Jo McDonald is Maestro. I won't compare her to Beethoven, because I'm not a fan. But she's Philip Glass: adaptive to each person who comes through the door, supportive, intuitive, and 26 (at least) steps ahead of you, just reaching out with her understanding words and fingers that put you in the best composure you could hope for. I've only had 1:1 instruction under one other person, and just by walking through the doors here, I know that any class I took, I'd be under her wing. I simply cannot endorse this studio enough. It's quiet, it's personal, the instructors obviously care about each other, and they care about those of us who seek their instruction. I truly have never felt so cared for and yet pushed to the best of my ability within the Pilates world. It's a lifetime of learning, and it makes me glad I haven't yet met 50, so hopefully I get another couple of decades with these instructors. COME HERE. You'll be welcomed with open arms and open hearts. Cascadia is a true gem here in SE. You will never be a number. I'm not sure of pricing comparisons, but it's our own lives. You're worth it. Men and women. One of the recent highlights was a Saturday morning class when one of the men had worse bedhead than I did. Savanna said not a word. Because it's not about that. This place is totally outstanding. It's by far the most enjoyable studio/facility I've ever been a member of. I arrive stressed out from the workday and leave feeling like a different (better) version of myself. Part of this is due to the practice of Pilates itself (I am relatively new to the discipline but have a dance background, having done ballet, yoga, barre, HIIT, and traditional gym workouts all my life.) An even bigger part of this is the studio: it's clean, bright, fully equipped, and cozy without being cramped. The biggest factor, however, is the fantastic staff. They are truly the most welcoming, knowledgeable, and warm people. Seeing them is the best part of my day! All of them will challenge you and teach you usable skills to better your life and body. I had been curious about Cascadia Pilates & Core Align, as I live in the neighborhood and walk by frequently. My only prior experience with Pilates was negative with a large mat class many years ago at a big box gym. By chance, I saw that a six month introductory unlimited membership was being offered at 50% off in the New Year when Yoga Bhoga was merging into the space next door. At the time, I was having some chronic pain from exercise that I knew needed longer term work than outpatient physical therapy and my lax at home discipline could provide. I took a leap of faith / made an impulsive decision, paid the six months up front without ever having taken a class or getting on a Reformer, and haven't looked back! In my almost 6 months at Cascadia Pilates and Core Align, I've taken 100 and counting Reformer and Core Align equipment classes and a small handful of mat classes. I've had class with almost every instructor at the studio and can attest that everybody is fantastic. The instructors are so kind and friendly. Everybody greets you by name when you walk in the door. The teachers genuinely want to help you to feel better and improve your form and function. I felt very welcome from Day 1 even as somebody who was clueless about Pilates and needed A LOT of direction. The equipment classes are small (6 people or less) and there is a lot of hands on attention. The teachers quickly get to know you and your strengths and weaknesses. You get asked before class if there is anything going on in your body that needs attention. There is a lot of gentle guidance, encouragement, and positive reinforcement. I never feel like teachers get frustrated with me when I'm having a hard time with a correction. If you are at all curious about Pilates, this is a very positive and special place. I can't say how much I love this location. I haven't felt so welcomed and at ease at a workout location in my life. I have been going now for about a month and highly recommend the private packages that let you go to unlimited mat classes included. Having never worked on the reformer or the core align it was a nice introduction to both. I also haven't done pilates in years and having a private a week is helping me refresh those movements in my brain quicker. Jo has been a fabulous private instructor. Personable, friendly, detailed, and motivating. I highly recommend her but kind of want to keep her a secret ;). Everyone has been friendly and down to earth. read more

At the end of my $40 new membership week and have gone to a different class every day. I feel just great after just one week. Extremely pleased - new, modern equipment, clean, spacious facility. The teachers are highly knowledgeable about the body and I feel the most supported while in a fitness class. They are really observant and their corrections are done in a way that's easy to understand (though your body may not want to cooperate). Everyone there is really lovely - teachers and other clients included. Wonderful energy. Makes for a nice workout environment. Furthermore, they limit certain classes to 6 people which allows the teachers to give one on one attention to everyone. I should mention that I have tried a whole bunch of studios in Portland and really like this one best! read more

I loved going to mat classes at this studio! I was in town for a few weeks house-sitting and had never done pilates before but was curious to try. I'm so glad that I did and that I did so at Cascadia! All the instructors whose classes I attended were friendly, energetic, deeply knowledgeable, and eager to help students progress. I felt comfortable, welcomed, and supported as a newbie. It seemed to me that this is a great space for folks of any age/body type to find positive, challenging work for their level. I learned a lot about my body in just two weeks, and it's clear from the instructors' level of knowledge that there is a lot more I could learn from them. I adore this studio and all the lovely instructors who teach there! As someone who's pretty uncoordinated, I was nervous to start a more regular Pilates routine, but everyone here is *so* kind and patient and makes me feel supported and welcome! I also think their package prices are among the most affordable in the city. The facilities are comfortable and clean. They offer a wide variety of classes and I feel like I get so much out of the equipment classes AND the mat classes. The absolute best part about this place, though, is the people. The clients are warm and kind and the instructors are truly top notch at teaching and as human beings. I could not give this place a heartier recommendation! read more
