I took my first few Lagree classes in Colorado earlier this year and absolutely fell in love with the workout. Since moving to Portland, I've been searching for a studio that offers Lagree and was excited to find this one, especially since it's only five minutes from my workplace. I attended my second class at this studio today (Friday, May 29, at 11:00 a.m.), and unfortunately, the experience left me feeling disappointed. When I arrived, I said hello to the instructor, but she didn't acknowledge me. I assumed she may not have heard me and didn't think much of it. During class, she corrected my form, and I was doing my best to follow her guidance. However, she seemed to become frustrated and abruptly told me to "forget it" before moving on. The interaction drew attention from the person next to me, who laughed, which felt embarrassing and discouraging. As I left, I said goodbye and again received no acknowledgment. What made this especially disappointing is how much I genuinely enjoy Lagree and how excited I was to find a studio that fit so well into my schedule. I've taken countless group fitness classes over the years--including cycling, Pilates, yoga, barre, Barry's, and Orangetheory--and one of the things I value most is the sense of community and encouragement these environments typically create. In all that time, I've never had an experience quite like this. The workout itself was great, and the location is incredibly convenient, but the overall atmosphere felt unwelcoming and, at times, exclusionary. I'm genuinely disappointed because I had hoped this would become my regular studio. I love Lagree, but not enough to feel anxious about attending class. read more

I did the 2 week unlimited and it was a very welcoming atmosphere. Coaches are very friendly and provide tips to correct your form. It is also very low impact which was exactly what I was looking for as I had been experiencing lower back pain. I cannot get over how killer this workout & studio are! I was in Portland for a month and did the two-week unlimited classes trial. Even when I told the instructors that I will just be able to do the classes for two week since I'll be leaving Portland they were still very kind! In Los Angeles, I've had people dismiss me if I said I didn't live close to their studio. I had done a couple reformer classes before but this was by far the best! This is undoubtedly a full body workout. I was nice and sore the next couple of days after class so I think I would definitely see results if I did this workout consistently. Fun music, attentive (which I really really appreciate), encouraging instructors, and lots of mirrors which are helpful to check your form. Super shout out to Natalie who was encouraging through the burn and had the best contagious energy! If you are lucky enough to live close to this studio, do not hesitate and go! read more

This space's conversion into Studio 45 was a bit loss. The instructors do their best but there is an atmosphere of unhappiness that permeates. Prices way up, classes less accessible, more emphasis put on image and "brand" than on fitness. Compared to this place's previous incarnation (which for its faults--especially an owner/instructor who only had two modes, ludicrous screaming and condescending "encouragement"--was a great place to exercise), Studio 45 is a poor comparison. Some of the instructors stayed on and they are great and they are the only reason I come back sometimes, because those instructors (who are not all of the instructors to be sure--there are also certainly duds!) give it their best and make it as fun as can be had here. It may look like a shiny, sleek, efficient multi-city gym that wants to compete with the other fad fitness factories with their "signature" mono-colored atmosphere, or gimmicky candle lighting, or athleisure lifestyle exercise for the post-capitalist, America-in-decline yuppie, but really it's a just a drag with a slapdash veneer still not yet dried. read more

After a friend invited me to join a class here, I was very scared and intimidated but it turned out to be one of my best workout studio experiences! The instructors Chelsea and Amanda are so enthusiastic, caring and motivated bad ass women I've ever met. I'm sure the whole team resembles those characteristics. They always make sure that you are doing what you can for yourself and help you every step of they way, whether it be from helping you improve your form or modifying it ! MegaBurn is simultaneously the hardest workout in Portland and the most welcoming community, a unique combo that makes for the best time, every time. All of the teachers will learn your name and your strengths/weaknesses, past injuries/concerns and will remember you and help you make correct modifications for the rest of the classes you come to. Every single teacher is incredible and so knowledgeable of the body. They cue with so much intention and even during Covid when they stay in their little teacher's box, they can cue the person on the furthest lagree from them to make a subtle change to their body position to ensure proper form and best burn. A long overdue review for an amazing fitness studio. I did Solidcore on the east coast for a few years so was looking for something comparable to that. I tried Firebrand and didn't feel like their classes were very challenging (and it was major mean-girl cliquey vibes, byeee). Finally MegaBurn came to Portland and I tried it immediately and loved it. The studio is beautiful, the machines are awesome, so many class options, and a challenging workout. But most of all - THE COMMUNITY! What an amazing group of instructors who invest the time and effort with all of their clients. They're constantly cheering you on both in and outside of the studio. I feel so supported by all of the amazing coaches - they know everyones names, they understand their goals and abilities and cater to individuals to support and challenge them. All of the coaches are incredible but a special shoutout to my faves: Amy! Chelsea! Chelsea! Carolyn! Emily! Taking some extra time away during COVID but I hear that they're running a clean, tight ship with the reopening. I'll be back, boss ladies! read more

I started Megaburn last October, 5 months after the birth of my second baby and needed some serious core and stability help after feeling so weak! It says a lot about a studio when instructors from a different, similar establishment are working out there! Legree is a wicked workout - slow twitch movement fighting resistance from springs. The Tanesborne location does some targeted workouts (e.g., Arms and Abs) but this location, for now, does exclusively full body with an emphasis on legs and glutes, but you'll get plenty of core and dreaded oblique work in too, with a little arm and upper body work added in too. The space is very clean, bright and welcoming, you're always greeted by staff upon entering. The instructors are all highly trained and knowledgeable, having to take a large number of classes themselves before teaching and unlike another studio I've done Lagree with the MegaBurn instructors make hands-on corrections to my form to prevent injury and increase the effectiveness of the different exercises. read more

I literally stopped in my tracks when I walked past MegaBurn on Division- I'd been wanting to return to Lagree classes in a more convenient location and suddenly here one was. I did a drop-in with Amanda on a Tuesday and she was as helpful, genuinely supportive and enthusiastic (without actually yelling, a pet peeve of mine personally) as they come. She came by and adjusted my form a few times during the class to help me get the most out of each move and to ensure I didn't hurt myself. Since I personally wasn't new to the machines and names of the moves we didn't need to go over them prior to class, but a new student definitely would receive that support and overview to prevent injuries. Lagree machines are the cream of the crop for resistance workouts. The beauty of them is that doing **anything** is going to be a workout, and you personally get to determine the level of intensity for each move and series. Amanda buoyed my confidence and assured me I'd remember my form from my earlier other studio experiences, and her unflagging enthusiasm throughout the 45 minutes kept me going- now I'm ready to attend more! I did my first Lagree class a year ago in Asheville, NC and fell madly, hopelessly in love with this form of movement. Lagree isn't just personal level training on a $10,000 machine. It's a community. When I moved to Portland, I thought, "I'm never going to find something as good as my old studio," but I'll try and find something just to move my body. After moving across the country, lonely as hell, I remember walking out of my first MegaBurn class and thinking, "Oh, thank God. I found my people again." Lagree is expensive; it's true - but I can't think of anything more worth the money than this studio. Not only is your body paid more individualized attention than (in my experience) a trainer, not only will it transform your body and alleviate your back pain and build your core and tone you so much you'll have to buy smaller jeans in two months, but MegaBurn will lift your spirit. The women who teach there aren't just knowledgeable, experienced, compassionate humans; they genuinely care about each and every one of their students. The owner responds to my emails personally, bending over backwards to make me feel supported and does whatever she can to put her students and people first. This place is magic and these women are full of grit, badassery, and the kind of strength that doesn't just come from a minute long plank hold (lookin' at you, Amanda - those kill me).
