This is exactly the kind of Hospitality business that an At Risk neighborhood needed to reenergize itself and move forward, create jobs and offer affordably to travelers. Visionary for sure. Clean, new, stylish, minimalist / simple and the bed was comfortable. I'll definitely be back.

    Bonus! USB charging ports!!

I would like to give this hotel a really big hand clap. Im not sure what the situation was like before the remodel. But, whoever made the executive decision to do it deserves a grand review. We checked in around 5p on a Friday and were welcomed on the property by maintenance and the manager on duty who helped with a quick check in. The parking lot was clean, open and spacious. There's plenty of parking and extremely well let in the evenings. No homeless stragglers, yet! I say yet, because the properties along the main road are pretty low end and run down. It's hard to navigate where to turn in if you're not familiar with the area and there's construction cones. We came back from dinner in the evening and turning in from the opposite direction was unfamiliar but we made it work. We walked into an extremely well decorated and very clean room. There were two queen beds that were really comfortable and plenty of pillows. There's a separate vanity area and bathroom. The light switch set up is on the outside of the door so that was weird and I wouldve like a few more hooks to hang towels. But, thats personal preference. The towel thread count was bomb! Kudos on that, guys! We really were impressed with that. There was an adjoining door in the room, but no issues because I dont think there were visitors occupying the room. There's a really interesting door safety feature I have never seen before. But, I assume its to prevent someone from kicking in the door?! I mean...given the area, I approve. There were absolutely no safety issues whatsoever. There's free ice, a pool and free breakfast as a bonus!

It was quiet, SAFE, and each room controls its own temps. The bed was perfect with FIVE pillows! The bedding was clean, and just enough. The breakfast area was clean. The coffee is super loaded with creamers sugars cups two different kinds of coffee and hot water. In the breakfast seriously had two different machines one making pancakes and one making waffles. Both were good. Heh. They also had cereal, eggs, and sausage that I was more concerned about the waffles. All in all it was worth the extra money to get a two dollar hotel, compared to a one dollar hotel. Definitely worth a try.

We stayed for a couple of days and at first we were intimidated by the crowded parking at night, but they have underground parking that you can access with a room key. This was great since during the day above ground was pretty hot. When we checked in the people at the desk were very friendly and they melted when they met our pups. The lobby has a snack bar/sundry/gift shop where you can purchase everything you need at reception. There's also a beautiful two sided fireplace that I'll bet is great in the winter, but they didn't light up during our visit because of the warm temps. Also in the lobby is a restaurant/sports bar. My sister enjoyed the steak while I got a salad. There was a nice chill vibe with the visitors sitting around and relaxing. The only complaint I have is that our poor server was running around as he was the waiter, bartender, and expediter while there was just one lady in the kitchen. He seemed overworked and were worried about that poor man. Our room was a very clean suite so we got 1.5 baths and a separate living room with a pullout sofa bed. It was great to be able to spread out and the wifi is very reliable. The hotel is near the conference center and the state fair grounds and there are a nice mix of restaurants and shops. There's even a nice brewery/restaurant on the next block. There were a surprising amount of grassy areas in the neighborhood to walk the dogs, but we limited the distance we walked from the hotel because there are a lot of sketchy homeless people down the block. We felt safe all around, except when we talked to some of them. We're no slouches because we've lived in sketchy neighborhoods in LA, San Francisco, Oakland, etc, but there was a weird vibe with these folks. Still I'd happily stay at this hotel again. Within the walls, it's a great setup.

Layout wise, I didn't like how the TV was back behind the desk. I like to watch a show while eating breakfast and checking email to start the day. Bed and pillows were comfortable, which helped me feel refreshed for the next day. My co-worker and I arrived early and our rooms were not ready. That's fine, but there is no real business center for us to set up and do a couple hours of work on our laptops while we waited. Plenty of greeting room-type seating and knee-level tables, but nothing really functional. We would have had to rent a business space to get an outlet and a reasonably ergonomic table. The evening reception was very basic but nice experience. The breakfast was basic (scrambled eggs, potatoes, and a meat) with a few other things - but very salty. It is plated for you, so it takes something away from the buffet style of getting what you want. My co-worker, on the other hand, had a very unpleasant experience in a room that smelled like dirty dog trying to be covered by strong chemicals. He suffered through it because it was only one night.

3 stars (emotionally) | 2 Stars (mechanically)…read more So we check into our "accessible" room, which is always a fun phrase because sometimes it means "thought about accessibility," and sometimes it means "we've seen a ramp once." Let's start with the door. When I say this door was heavy, I don't mean sturdy. I mean this door has a gym membership. This door does deadlifts. If you use mobility equipment, congratulations -- you've unlocked Bonus Level: Upper Body Strength. I stood there thinking, "Ohhh. Accessibility is more of a suggestion." Thankfully I had help. Otherwise I'd still be in the hallway explaining to guests that I technically live here now. "Yes, I have hallway timeshare rights." Then we get to the bathroom. There's a shower bench. Now I love a shower bench. I respect a shower bench. But this one? This one was not securely bolted. It was emotionally bolted. Spiritually bolted. We let the front desk know. They thanked us for being proactive. Which is nice. Very polite. No one fixed it. So now I'm showering like I'm on a reality show called Trust Fall: Bathroom Edition. Meanwhile -- housekeeping. Three days. Not once. I don't need luxury. I don't need chocolates on the pillow. But after day three you start wondering if you've been softly erased from the census. Let's talk about the key cards. We replaced them four times. Four. At that point I'm not a guest. I'm in a loyalty program with the key card printer. And here's the kicker: you have to insert a key card into a slot to keep the electricity on. So the key cards don't work... but they are also the only thing preventing you from living in darkness. It's like the hotel said, "What if electricity... but make it a scavenger hunt?" Every time we go to the front desk? No one's there. Just an empty counter and vibes. We're standing there like, "Do we knock? Do we ring a bell? Do we Venmo the building?" Room service. Menu says 5:00-9:30 PM. We call at 9:00. Kitchen's closed. "Oh yeah," they say. "The hours changed. We haven't updated the menu." Oh. So the menu is archival material. It's a historical document. The next night we order. They don't follow the instructions. They remake it. At this point I've spent more time coordinating dinner than I did at the actual conference I traveled for. Late checkout? That's a negotiation. They say housekeeping decides. Housekeeping. The mythical beings we have not seen in three days. We ask again. They say priority goes to IHG members. "I am an IHG member." "It's not showing up." Eventually: "Oh. There it is. 2 PM." So late checkout requires documentary proof. I should've brought exhibits. Checkout day? No "How was everything?" No "Thanks for staying with us." Just a silent transfer of air between humans. But everywhere--QR codes. "Leave us a review!" And honestly? I respect that confidence. That's the kind of self-belief I aspire to. Look, it wasn't catastrophic. It wasn't a disaster. It was just consistently, creatively underwhelming. Accessibility that requires assistance. Service that occasionally phases out of existence. Key cards with commitment issues. A shower bench living its truth. Would I stay again? If options are limited? Maybe. But I'm bringing: * Upper body strength * Backup dinner plans * A portable electrician * And possibly a wrench Yakima, you were an experience.
