Everything is all good and great taste of food They have a display of all food to see what you well get for your order

Great little spot to get some seafood cravings out the way as you stroll through the pier. After our walking tour ended, my mother and I decided to give this spot a try. Upon walking in, you are greeted by the staff and they even have samples of their dishes on display front section. I ordered the clam chowder in a cup and fried shrimp with fries. The clam chowder was very delicious; packed with lots of sea (meat) in it and creamy soup; 5/5 The fried shrimp were also delicious, freshly made and pretty decent size in each shrimp. Loved the dip that it came with as it enhanced each bite. The fries were also appetizing. 5/5 Overall, very decent spot, quick service and hot fresh food! read more

Fresh hot food that didn't take long either. It was pretty pricey for your casual grub, but that's to be expected in San Francisco. I really enjoyed my crab cakes, the fries were ok, really nothing special, & the coleslaw was a letdown. I was looking forward to it because the slaw looked different! The chowder was warm, comforting, and hit the spot on a chilly windy day at the pier. read more

Nice location on the pier. The exterior is fun and interesting, employees were friendly. It was crowded but service was organized and we didn't wait long for our food. Our group ordered several different items. I ordered fish and chips. It consisted of two pieces of fish, some fries, and a "side" of slaw. The slaw was in a sample-sized cup, more like a garnish than an actual side dish. As for the fish, one piece was very good. The piece on the bottom was overcooked and hard, nearly burned. I went back to the counter to request extra tartar sauce which was handed to me with no additional charge. My friends were happy with their food choices, sandwiches and chowder. We dined inside, and it was startling to see pigeons flying inside to scrounge for food. They walked around on the floor looking for food. Overall, not a bad lunch. A little overpriced but it is a tourist area. read more

An aesthetic, sea-life-themed restaurant that offers a variety of classic seafood dishes in a cozy setting despite the rain. I ordered the Seafood Combo platter, which featured a variety of finger-food favorites (refer to the photo below), and was pleasantly surprised by how juicy and flavorful the seafood was. Beyond the food itself, I'd also like to give my appreciation to the male cashier who was incredibly helpful and accommodating, making the experience feel very welcoming. The only downside that I personally experienced within my time there is that it's a bit small and open-ended, so pigeons/rain were able to get in easily. However, still grateful for them for having indoor seating for a lot of the other restaurants around unfortunately do not. read more

The Hook can be found in the midst of the super touristy area of Pier 39. It wasn't nearly the worst tourist-trap type restaurant I've ever been to, but it still was overpriced and pretty unsatisfying. We were enjoying ourselves hanging out and taking in the sights at Pier 39 when we decided to take in a quick bite and a drink and came across The Hook. The Philly cheesesteak was just not very good at all. It was very basic and overpriced for what you actually got. Just check out the pics. Very average at best. The beer was just a Bud Light draft, but tasted WAY watered down. There was definitely something off about that beer. It was pricey and unsatisfying, so we decided to cut our losses and save the real grubbing for a better place. 2 stars. read more

The staff was nice but the food was not good. It was edible but bland. We got a fish and chips, a seafood mix, a bacon hot dog, a Philly cheesesteak, and three drinks for a little over $100. They also don't validate parking from the public parking just fyi. Kind of crappy because parking is $10 per hour unless a restaurant validates it. Idk why they don't validate. The fish was overcooked. The Philly cheesesteak had squeezy nacho cheese on it, the tartar sauce was bland, and the chowder was sweet and gritty. read more

Although I've tried this spot before and was slightly underwhelmed, this second visit was a pleasant surprise! I've had coworkers recommend this spot for their Philly cheesesteak and their grilled onions and peppers ALONE, so that is exactly what I tried this time around. It's interesting because I've saw photos of this sandwich in previous reviews, and I always thought it looked a bit small for my liking but when I got it I was happy to see that it was a decent size. It has exactly what you'd think: Shredded Steak cooked with Onions and Peppers with the infamous cheese sauce. It was filling and delicious! The savory cheese pairs perfectly with the flavorful steak and sweet grilled onions and peppers. If you go, I genuinely could not recommend the Philly cheesesteak more. read more

Cool little convenient spot on Pier 39. Place has decent prices and food smelled good but I didn't give it a go. I did however order a beer and sit outside on the tables to enjoy the pier. Unfortunately by beer was so so. Pretty sure I seen the guy serve the beer from the tap into a pitcher. I was unsure if it was older beer mixed with some from the tap. Regardless it tasted rather old. I came back the next day and had a few more beers but they were from the bottle and not the tap. If we come back I'd possibly give the food a go. But otherwise was nice to sit outside side and enjoy the beer even though it was so so. read more

$1 extra charge for ranch?! Seriously? If you're hungry eat literally anywhere else. They nickel and dime you unnecessarily while serving mediocre food. First AND last time coming here. The bread saved this from being a one star nightmare but still NOT good enough. Zero recommendations unless you love bad service and bland seafood. Would not return. They could improve on nicer staff. read more

Disappointing Experience with Fried Calamari Unfortunately, my recent visit to this establishment was a letdown. I ordered the fried calamari, which was one of the worst I've ever had. The dish was dry and lacked flavor, which was disappointing. The lackluster food may have contributed to the noticeable absence of customers. Normally I check the review before I try a new place and I failed this time . I was just craving for calamari and stopped here without checking reviews . Rating: 1/5 stars read more

While visiting San Francisco with my best friend, we stopped at The Hook on Pier 39, and shared a clam chowder in a bread bowl. It was delicious! The chowder was creamy, flavorful, and packed with tender clams, and the bread bowl was the perfect vessel--crispy on the outside and soft inside. The casual, laid-back vibe of the place was perfect for a quick meal while enjoying the views. It's a bit on the pricier side, but for fresh seafood and the atmosphere, it's totally worth it. If you're in the area, definitely give it a try! Video Review will be posted on Tik Tok @Foxy.appetite and Instagram @Foxyappetite soon read more

There are SOOO many options for fish and chips in SF and on the pier itself that there really isn't a reason to stop here. The staff was really friendly despite being late at night. But the food was incredibly mediocre and it wasn't that much cheaper than other spots on the pier. Both my wife had a fish and chips and split a cheesy crab bite. The crab bites felt more bready than crab or cheese. The fish and chips was crispy but otherwise relatively bland. read more

First time at the pier and wanted to try the sourdough bread bowl clam chowder. Tried it here and it was delicious! My husband had the fisherman platter and I tased the shrimp and it was amazing! The view of the seals outside and the harbor were beautiful. The only thing lacking from making the place perfect was the service. Our server was rude. Like I get it, you have to serve tourists all day long, but throwing down my water saying "here" was unnecessary. Loved the food, but wouldn't come back. read more

My friend and I went to this place to grab a bite to eat after not having eaten all day. We were both craving sandwiches, and when we saw their inviting sign and the fun artwork that decorated the walls, we decided it would be a good spot to stop. When we walked in, we noticed they had bread bowls and various food items on display at the counter, which looked appealing. After reviewing the menu, we ordered the Philly Cheesesteak and a drink. Unfortunately, we were both SEVERELY DISAPPOINTED. We paid $14 for the sandwich and nearly $5 for a drink, bringing our total to $21 each. I understand it's San Francisco, but the food should be worth the price if they're going to charge that much. To make matters worse, the cheese on the sandwich was just VILE; it was processed nacho cheese squirted on top, which ruined the whole sandwich, The onions tasted odd and had a weird sweetness that threw off the sandwich even further, and the bread was completely untoasted. The issues didn't stop with the sandwich. My friend ordered lemonade, which was watered down, had barely any ice, and was warm. The service was also disappointing. When we walked in, the staff were all on their phones and didn't even acknowledge us. Later, while we were 'eating,' we saw one of them scrolling on TikTok at the cash register. And the cherry on top of this whole experience, we both had upset stomachs after eating this sandwich. I usually don't write reviews, but this place was just bad and not worth the money. I recommend that you save your money and look elsewhere. Unfortunately, I didn't take any pictures of the sandwich myself, so I'm using a photo from another review to show you what it looked like. read more

I have no idea how this restaurant passes its health inspection. I ordered the fish and chips, and took a seat inside to eat my food to avoid the pigeons and seagulls. The staff was kind, but the food was meh. Worst of all, the pigeons were coming inside the building and one flew over my head and food. Thankfully my food was not contaminated, although this is a serious health hazard, which needs to be addressed. Please find a way to keep the birds outside the restaurant. read more

It was hard to find a place to eat that had 4 stars or higher on a Saturday of Labor Day weekend and passed by this place and decided to give it a try despite the low Yelp reviews. We ordered garlic fries, seafood combo, and clam chowders. The clam chowder tasted like it was from a can, which is unfortunate since it each cost between $10-12 dollars. The garlic fries were cold. The seafood combo was okay. Nothing special. They have indoor and outdoor seating. It filled the tummy, but not enjoyable. read more

The Hook was the perfect spot for our group to grab a quick bite to eat and drink! While the dining area was obviously closed due to COVID, we were able to snag some open picnic tables right outside on the pier. The menu offered more than just seafood, so it's great for picky eaters, too. We shared a bread bowl of clam chowder, as well as the crab poppers. This was the perfect amount of food to split for a light lunch. I really enjoyed the clam chowder, which was served piping hot and included pieces of potato and bacon. The sourdough bowl it was served in was delicious, too, and perfect for dipping. read more

Took longer for my order to be finished and the rest of my party were done eating by then. The soups they offer (clam chowder & chili) both have bacon in them with no alternatives. Lady at the register definitely had a prejudice against my no pork dietary restriction and she turned super pissy after I asked which made the entire interaction with her (including picking up the food) unpleasant. The salmon sandwich was good, but it didn't come with fries or chips. My party had the seafood combo and they said it's nothing you can't get anywhere else, they got dried up lemon slices too. read more

Like most places, the hook offers outdoor dining and take out during covid. A few tables in the front and and more seating in the rear looking out into the water. Allen and I decided to try a lunch spot in SF without Yelping first. Upon coming inside, I had a feeling this place would be around a 2 stars. Bumping it to 3 stars, because I had a decent experience, and nothing grossly wrong. +1 Quick service! +1 Samples provided for the 3 diff soups! +/-1 Menu was interesting. There was a section with a lot of the "tourist"dishes, but then had a weird combination of sandwiches and salads. Pro tip 1: sample their soups! We quickly ordered: 1) Clam chowder bread bowl: liked the bread! The chowder was a bit watery, but had actual clams and a good amount of potatoes. 2) Grilled chicken plate: came with rice and some shredded steamed vegetables! The chicken was actually surprisingly juicy, and cooked well! Overall, not a bad spot...I would only come here again if I wanted to grab something quick to eat. read more

I know this is a tourist spot but that doesn't mean the fish and chips isn't great! The fish is cooked perfectly and comes with a clean coke slaw and very tasty tartar sauce. We got the seafood combo that comes with shrimp and calamari - those were ok, but the fish is where it's all at. One of the best fish and chips I've tried. It's not bad or great but good! If you eat here, I would definitely stick to the fried fish and shrimp with fries and coleslaw unless you don't like seafood. My husband and I always grab a quick bite here when we are in San Francisco down at Pier 39. I will say the fish, shrimp and fries are always fresh and hot. I like the coleslaw because it is crisp with a tangy flavor and not soggy. The fish and shrimp is pretty good! It is perfectly cooked and actually tastes better than some of the more expensive restaurants that we have tried in San Francisco. Really disappointed in this place. My friend came from Philly to visit and we went to Pier 39. Lots of the restaurants there were super busy so I picked one that was not so busy because we were starving. We ordered the following: 1 cup crab & shrimp soup 1 cup of clam chowder 1 fish & chips 1 crab poppers 2 bottles of water $46!!!!! The clam chowder was like the thickest cream ever but basically flavorless. The fish & chips were greasy and simply not good The crab poppers were mediocre at best I know we are in the city and prices are high but for prices that high the food should at least be good. Oh well, we made it up that night by going to a fabulous Italian restaurant on the peninsula. read more

Had a disappointing experience not getting what I ordered from here. I ordered a Philly cheese steak sandwich from an area of the menu that clearly stated all sandwiches came with cole slaw. My sandwich was served without cole slaw. I asked for cole slaw but the lady said only sandwiches come with cole slaw. I pointed to the menu that my Philly cheese steak was clearly a sandwich and should come with cole slaw. The employee just kept repeating that only sandwiches came with cole slaw.
