The value, service, selection . . . all the things you want if you actually care about what you cook with an eye towards a budget. Examples: --always have thin chicken cutlets on hand, perfectly sliced, great quality: organic or standard. --always both CHOICE and PRIME roasts and steaks stocked. --full line of great fresh sausage: pork or chicken, links or spirals. --Got Smoked? Full smoked meats section --pre-made: meatballs, pinwheels Kebobs etc. --foul: roasters, fryers, soup kits, or just backs for stock. --Sunday gravy kits big and small. Tomahawk steaks. You name it! They have their own little area at the back of CROSS ISLAND FRUIT with their own check out, and they take CC. Their prices are even competitive with the big box stores, but the service and checkout are much faster and you don't have to buy 15 lbs to get the discount. No brainer, right? Just so you don't think it's all roses I will offer one complaint in the interest of objectivity: the parking lot is a little tight. But that's the case with most independent operations in Nassau. A little patience and caution and you'll be fine.

Anyway I saw this place online and decided to call first to make sure I don't suffer the same faith by going to a meatless meat market. When i called they said they had all the meat I wanted so I journeyed around four block on foot. When I got there all the meats was chopped up and prebagged ready to go. The down side is that they are a little bit pricier than the other meat market and I felt they cheated me a bit by not trimming some of the fat off the meat before they weighed it. I asked the guy to trim it first before weighing and he said he couldn't trim anymore off because he had already trimmed it and the meat is naturally fatty bla bla bla... but after it was weighed he said "OK I'm gonna trim it up for you"... I was like wtf are u kidding me? Overall the service was fast, they had everything I needed, even got a free calendar... ha. I would definitely go back again, just gotta keep ur eyes on them.

They can also individually vacuum-seal the meat, making it ready for the freezer. You can even place an order over the phone and pick it up later. I'm not sure if all their meats are organic, but I believe most of them are, and they don't add preservatives. I usually prefer filet mignon and sirloin steaks because they tend to be lean with very little fat. However, I was a bit surprised to find more fat than expected on the sirloin steaks I ordered. There's no dedicated parking lot, so you'll have to find street parking.

By the way, I strongly suspect one of the earlier reviewers either owns or is closely connected to this business so make of that what you will. My first impression was that this is a humble little cart that can easily be missed due to its location and because there are several other carts in the area who have a devoted following. Full disclosure: I usually frequent the Hamza & Madina cart that is literally on the other end of the block and I have been to the other carts next to the Pizza Hut and in front of the Halal market across from there, all on the super busy Hillside Avenue and Little Neck Parkway intersection. Having tried each of those 3 carts on multiple occasions, I've decided that Hamza & Madine has most appealed to me. However, I came to Mushin's with an open mind. The fella in the cart was a little slow in taking my order. There was one other gal on queue when I arrived and she had just placed her order when a van pulled up and literally placed an order curbside, all while the passengers were still sitting in the vehicle. Maybe they were frequent diners at Mushin's because he took their order before he took mine. Oh well...it was a beautiful day out so I didn't make a stink out of it, esp. since this was my first visit and I didn't want to irritate the fella making my food. I ordered one of my halal standards: combo (chicken & lamb) over rice. It came with a little salad...better described as a few pieces of chopped up, bland lettuce. I can see why the lady ahead of me and the guy who ordered right after me both asked for "no salad" when they placed their orders. I'll know better next time. As for the lamb, it's basically a patty that the fella unwrapped from its plastic bag and chopped up on the grill. There was no "rotisserie" lamb to be seen as you sometimes find in halal restaurants or at some of the other halal carts in Manhattan. Still, the lamb was tasty and I liked the little charred edges that added a little textural interest & crispiness. The chicken was okay but it seemed like less interesting filler in comparison to the lamb. The white sauce also doesn't pack the same tangy flavor as Hamza's or The Halal Guys'. The hot sauce, too, packed a little less wallop but that may not be a bad thing to everyone. The portion itself is deceptive. The combo comes served in a square styro container with 3 different sections. The main/larger section up front held the bulk of the chicken/lamb/rice while one of the smaller sections held the aforementioned "salad" and the other smaller section contained a little overflow rice. By weight alone, I determined that I didn't get as much food as I usually do at Hamza & Madina & their rectangular styro container, or at the now world famous Halal Guys cart in Manhattan & their round aluminum containers. Now if the fella had generously loaded up my container, I'm sure it would have outweighed Hamza's. Still, for $5.99, I got the combo & a can of soda too. Parking is always a little dicey in this area because there are so many stores here but I lucked out and was able to squeeze into a spot close by. Overall, I liked the food just fine but wasn't wowed by it like other folks have been. I'll give them another shot and see if they can sway my preference away from the neighboring Hamza cart. For now, I'll drop them 3 stars with room to improve on that, not necessarily because I am penalizing them for anything.
