I ordered a large amount of materials and paid for delivery. When it was sent and delivered, one of the items was out of stock. They billed me for it in the total. Later they issued the credit, but I should never have been billed for something they didn't have. Yes I got a credit, but if for some reason I cannot pay it off by the time the 0% financing ends, I will be charged finance charges for an item that they could not even supply me with. This to me seems illegal and at the very least, unfair business practices. Their credit card is always quirky and I have had to spend too much time trying to straighten things out. In addition, most of the employees stand around talking and texting and very few actually help you when you ask for it. read more

"Customer service"on phone calls is an exercise in futility. I just waited 24 minutes for the operator to answer and then directed my phone call. Another 4 minutes of ringring and then the call is dropped. Waste of almost half an hour. Will try Lowe's. read more

Ryobi reps in the store are useless. Asked Amanda today for warranty help on a broken part of the shaft of my ryobi trimmer. Her response "call Ryobi or look for the part yourself." I replied "it's not a consumable, why isn't it covered under the warranty ?" Her reply " I don't know. Have a great day!" Ummm, isn't this why Ryobi pays to have their own reps in the store ? I doubt they put you there so you can tell people "I don't know, call Ryobi." Previously they replaced a failed battery but when their replacement battery also failed, they refused any additional help. DON'T BUY RYOBI. When my remaining batteries fail, I will be switching to GREENWORKS products from Costco. The GREENWORKS battery warranty is three times as long as Ryobi. read more

Most of the employees really try to offer good customer service. It's the ones that don't that stick out like dog balls, and they are always the ones that have the highest visibility. This store may think it has the market cornered in Hilo, but after the way I was spoken to, I dumped my order and drove to Ace in Pāhoa, got my stuff in half the time, and without the snark. Purchased a washing machine and waited 6 weeks. Received damaged and denied delivery. Appliance department Debbie and manager Deena refused to send a replacement as per signed agreement. They forced me to take a refund on my debit card and then they said I could purchase another washer. We went in to look for leftover Christmas decorations. We ended up not finding any, but the guy that helped us out was so kind and tried to help us. He walked us around the very clean store to try and help and informed us that they didn't have any, but he also went above and beyond to look up other locations and called the stores to make sure. DO NOT BUY appliances from this place. I tried to return a damage washer, but the store manager would not take it back. She told me I only have 48 hours to return any appliances from the store. I told her I did not have time to open the box and install until yesterday, which is 10 days since I bought it. The washer is severely damaged on three sides and it is not function at all. What kind of policy is that! They won't take responsibility for the products they sell. I love the convenience of HomeDepot, but this will bring an extremely bad reputation to the Home Depot's brand. I cannot believe I got this kind of service from Home Depot. I will take my business to Costco from now on. The people who work there were all in agreement with me about the damage washer and thought I should have my issue resolved. But the store manager put a stop to it. She just wanted me to leave with a damage washer. She came at me with a horrible attitude and she had zero customer service. She made me feel like I did something wrong. THIS IS HomeDepot? The quality of care and customer service at the Hilo Home Depot is so awesome!!! Such a difference in attitude compared to the mainland stores. I had Jessica initially, who helped track merchandise that had arrived but was in warehouse storage still. She was fantastic. Each associate works together to ensure they find solutions. Long story short - on 12/03/23 I went in to purchase a dryer. Wendy & Lisa helped me in appliances. They were super professional and nice! Raquel helped me at check out and was super polite and helpful. I got a Whirlpool off the floor. Took dryer home, tried it, and unfortunately it sounded like it was about to take off. I took it back to Home Depot that evening (they give you 48 hours). I got there about 5:50PM with my 2 kids and the guy at the door said the store was closing in 10 minutes (earlier than usual because they close at 7PM). I went to the return & Raquel told me to go to appliances to order a new dryer then go back to returns and see Dayne to do my exchange. I went to appliances and James assisted me. He was super helpful, professional, knew his shit & was super nice. I ordered a brand new GE dryer (to pick up from warehouse), and he gave me a $50 discount off for the hassle. I apologized to him because the store was closing early and it was about 6:05PM. He told me don't worry about it, and that the store was just closing due to their store Christmas Holiday party. He told me that returns would still have to help me because I was still in the store. After that - I went to returns and saw Dayne. Told him I had a return to do and then a purchase. He told me that the store was closed. I told him that we have the dryer here in the unloading zone to return, someone needs to help me because I just came from appliances. He insisted that the store was closed. I told him that Raquel and James both told me to come see him for the return. He raised his voice and said that one of them could help me. I asked where the manager was and he didn't know. I told him someone needs to help me. Then he grabbed his blue flask, threw his arms down, yelled at me and said "I NEED TO GO!!!!!!". I was holding my kid in my arms when he did this. I then walked to the front of the store by the registers and told Raquel what had happened (I was pretty upset). She walked back with me to returns and assisted me. She apologized for his behavior and told me that even though the store was closing for a party, he should've helped me. She did my return and my new purchase within 5 minutes. She was super helpful, didn't rush to get me out of the store & was very professional. I asked for the manager and she told me that Donald was at the front of the store. As I walked out, I stopped and reported Dayne to Donald the store manager for that evening. I told him that I knew they were having a party but he still should've helped me. Donald apologized and said he would be talking to Dayne. I wanted to make this post so that people are aware of how rude Dayne is! The customer service I was provided with was tremendously rude & unprofessional. Especially because I had my kids with me. How dare he yell at me. Dayne should be written up or fired! What if I was a secret shopper watching how you do with customers? It shouldn't matter who I am! You work for a job like this, you help the customer till they leave the store. It wasn't like I was shopping around, I was being helped in appliances and then did what I was told for my return and purchase. I was very very upset with the way I was treated as I am a loyal customer to Home Depot! It made me more upset to see him working couple days later.....I was frustrated about having to get 3 dryers before it actually worked but, the customer service was what topped it! It was the worst! Tried to purchase a clothes washing machine and dryer on two separate occasions, but to no avail. You'd think I was requesting the first launch to Pluto! Nobody in the store could pull this unheard of request off; although, I was standing at the register, cash in hand, pleading with the cashier to take it! No can happen! Instead, I was instructed by a more senior employee to make the purchase in the Appliances' Department. When I explained nobody really seems to ever work in that department except poor souls from other departments whom suddenly get trapped by overly desperate customers whom, get this, want to actually spend their hard earned wages to help Home Depot (HD) employees make a living, but again, no can happen! We all know that HD decided to forgo customer service training to their employees at all their US locations from the outset. That is why that divorce "wives' tale" story (pun intended) regarding Lowes seems valid. Think about it, isn't it interesting how Lowes locates near Home Depot and consistently provides better customer service, but unfortunately, not yet in Hilo! I can only conclude that the HD divorcee is still a billionaire just looking for multiple tax write offs. Otherwise, no make sense! I won't bore you with my second attempt at purchasing yet another W/D set from HD after trying to pass the first experience off as an aberration. Does hanging out all afternoon via telephone on hold ring a bell? Suffice it to say that Sears, even though appearing on their last leg, will and always has been getting the bulk of my business in Hilo. Even though the employees seem a bit depressed because of their uncertain future with the company, they still followup with expected or better customer service actions. Lest I forget, Sears also does an excellent job standing behind and repairing their Kenmore brand; which by itself is reason enough to stick with them in this moist and corrosive East Big Island environment! read more

On Thursday, 9/28/23, in the morning around 11:00, I went to your store to pick up 20 walkway stones and 10-50# bags of sand to complete a walkway. I will make this brief. I received no help getting the stones onto the flat bed nor pulling it to the front check from home and garden. Then, I was told I had to get another flat bed for the sand. So, over I go, and put the sand on my truck. I will give a nice young female employee credit for helping me with three of them. Back to checkout I go...and I will credit the two men who loaded my car for me. Have I mentioned yet that I am 73 years old???? I remember going to the original Home Depot in Atlanta in the 80's. It was absolutely prohibited that a customer touched merchandise for liability. Much less allow a Kupuna to pull 500# of stone and sand. I walked past many employees, asked for help twice, to no avail. This seems to be a common problem as evidenced by your low rating. Be careful, next person will be hurt. Today I got help from a friendly Home Depot employee named Lopaka who assisted me in loading fertilizer and chicken manure into my truck bed. He noticed me struggling pushing a heavy cart and asked I needed help. I then recall it was also him who helped me load an induction stove about a month ago. In general I always have a great experience shopping there. Lopaka exemplified the attitude and helpfulness of the store's staff. I do a lot of home improvement work here in Hilo and I can say with certainty that this Home Depot has the kindest and most helpful sales reps of any Home Depot I've ever been to. There are just good people. Alejandro was a big help when checking out making sure we had what we needed. Then there was Jojo. I was looking for a multipurpose tool and like most folks felt trapped by the brand. Once you invest in a brand you tend to stick to it because the batteries are so expensive. Since most of my home improvement work here is light, I went with Ryobi. I love their impact driver and saw, but unfortunately I do not like their multipurpose tool that requires a hex wrench. Jojo, seeing my confusion, asked what I was looking for and I explained in detail. She asked that I trust her and that there may be an opportunity on a close out. There on the endcap was a close out deal on a different high end brand that included a multipurpose tool. It also came with a driver, reciprocating saw, drill, two batteries and charger. It was a great deal (not much more than I would pay for a single tool!) and I put all the tools to use by days end. Thanks to Jojo I was able to get the job done, jump into a new line at low cost. She saved me time and money and you can't beat that. Plus, she's a good soul who really listened to what I needed. A+ read more

First of all, no Home Depot has everything. So I was going into this HD for a specific arbor for a drill attachment. There was one associate in the hardware (nuts and bolts) department. We'll call him Jose. Six people were waiting to get help from Jose. He was already with a customer. Okay, I'll try and find the part I need on my own. 20 minutes of searching and I can't find the arbor in Hardware or Electric Tools. No other associates around except for the guy in Door & Windows. He can't help because that's not his department. I go up front to the 7 cashiers. (Hummm, 5 of the cash registers are self checkout. This means 5 of the 7 cashiers are directing foot traffic to the registers for cash or credit cards. Couldn't those 5 be helping customers on the floor?) Anyway I ask one of the "traffic cashiers" if they can send some one to help me in Power Tools. They make a call over the intercom and say "someone will be right with you". I wait in the aisle and 10 minutes later Jose shows up. , . He was very helpful and we came to discover that HD did not have the part I needed. BUT, Jose knew where I could get it, Automotive Supply. And he was right. So, Home Depot, hire more help, restock with a wider variety of items and give Jose a raise. (Okay Jose isn't his real name. But he looks like a Jose. he's about 5'5", and he's got two bad legs or ankles. He has a noticeable limp ... on both sides) read more

Prequel to Jacuzzi Tub damage delivery fiasco. In the past few years we've purchased two sets of Washer/Dryer units first Top of the Line Samsung. Five requests for service during warranty. Each follow up I was told it's fixed. Amazing never saw a repairman. We just kicked them to the curb and purchased old school stuff off Craigslist. The second pair are Maytag so far so good, but here is the kicker called to register with Allstate by HomeDepot and could not because we along with everyone else has a "verifiable address" no neighbors or our post office branch address. First attempt to register was an offshore outsource in Jamaica and second time was a fail attempt to Mexico City. Additionally, we purchased all our Kitchen Appliances with Home Depot...same problem. It's a double edge sword no customer service/no quality manufacturing, what a disappointment. Kitchenaid in the first year refrigerator had two repairs and oven failed twice. Unbelievable! We are contemplating building a ranch house, off grid wood fired stove and fireplace, larder for cold storage and raise our own chickens and vegetables before everything goes to hell. On-line Buyer Beware. You are on your own, when an item is damaged in shipping and arrives at your door. Home Depot has no customer service or care. Nor do they understand the concept of customer service. Briefly, my recent misfortune involved a Jacuzzi tub for installation in new construction. A month late, impossible to get a trace update, and arrived obviously damaged. Somewhere along the line it was dropped and no responsibility was taken. The pieces all stuffed back in the box, shrink wrapped, tapped and back in route. The trail with Estes Trucking starts in Dallas TX, to El Paso TX, Phoenix AZ, Banning CA, Rancho Cucamonga, CA. Leaving 4/8/2024 and arriving Hilo, HI 4/9/2024 amazing ...then the trail runs cold until it was delivered 4/30/2024 by Kona Trucking. You would think a simple matter of contacting Home Depot and having damage picked up and new replacement order seems obvious. This is when the fun starts, and you spend most of the day talking to representatives in foreign countries and unable to get same pricing and and must spend another month plus hoping the next will arrive intact. I spent more than $150.00 on a drill, and a screen door. The drill didn't drill holes into the metal door frame. When I went back for help they didn't have any one to help after telling me to wait for fifteen minutes. I'll get better help from my local, family run hardware store even if they have fewer choices. read more

Weird as it is, this is the one place around here that actually does play an integral role in the Christmas season for my family and I, so I thought it might be fitting to update my review on this Christmas Eve. This update of course being so that I can include the part about their Christmas tree operation during the holiday season! So, like I said, sort of a weird place to have significance during the holidays--and it's not like it's some special tradition or anything--but there are really only so many places that you can go to get a Christmas tree around here. Home Depot just so happens to have the best trees, in my humble opinion. They're typically in good condition for the most part, stay alive throughout the holidays, and there's a nice variety of height and species. The folks there are also usually very nice, which does make a difference! Basically, they just check all of the boxes! Happy holidays! read more
