The quality of care and customer service at the Hilo Home Depot is so awesome!!! Such a difference in attitude compared to the mainland stores. I had Jessica initially, who helped track merchandise that had arrived but was in warehouse storage still. She was fantastic. Each associate works together to ensure they find solutions. Pretty awesome! I recommend the Hilo Home Depot!!!! Read my other reviews for honest opinions.

DAYNE @ HILO HOME DEPOT RETURNS. He yelled at me because he wanted to get to the Store Christmas Party!

Long story short - on 12/03/23 I went in to purchase a dryer. Wendy & Lisa helped me in appliances. They were super professional and nice! Raquel helped me at check out and was super polite and helpful. I got a Whirlpool off the floor. Took dryer home, tried it, and unfortunately it sounded like it was about to take off. I took it back to Home Depot that evening (they give you 48 hours). I got there about 5:50PM with my 2 kids and the guy at the door said the store was closing in 10 minutes (earlier than usual because they close at 7PM). I went to the return & Raquel told me to go to appliances to order a new dryer then go back to returns and see Dayne to do my exchange. I went to appliances and James assisted me. He was super helpful, professional, knew his shit & was super nice. I ordered a brand new GE dryer (to pick up from warehouse), and he gave me a $50 discount off for the hassle. I apologized to him because the store was closing early and it was about 6:05PM. He told me don't worry about it, and that the store was just closing due to their store Christmas Holiday party. He told me that returns would still have to help me because I was still in the store. After that - I went to returns and saw Dayne. Told him I had a return to do and then a purchase. He told me that the store was closed. I told him that we have the dryer here in the unloading zone to return, someone needs to help me because I just came from appliances. He insisted that the store was closed. I told him that Raquel and James both told me to come see him for the return. He raised his voice and said that one of them could help me. I asked where the manager was and he didn't know. I told him someone needs to help me. Then he grabbed his blue flask, threw his arms down, yelled at me and said "I NEED TO GO!!!!!!". I was holding my kid in my arms when he did this. I then walked to the front of the store by the registers and told Raquel what had happened (I was pretty upset). She walked back with me to returns and assisted me. She apologized for his behavior and told me that even though the store was closing for a party, he should've helped me. She did my return and my new purchase within 5 minutes. She was super helpful, didn't rush to get me out of the store & was very professional. I asked for the manager and she told me that Donald was at the front of the store. As I walked out, I stopped and reported Dayne to Donald the store manager for that evening. I told him that I knew they were having a party but he still should've helped me. Donald apologized and said he would be talking to Dayne. I wanted to make this post so that people are aware of how rude Dayne is! The customer service I was provided with was tremendously rude & unprofessional. Especially because I had my kids with me. How dare he yell at me. Dayne should be written up or fired! What if I was a secret shopper watching how you do with customers? It shouldn't matter who I am! You work for a job like this, you help the customer till they leave the store. It wasn't like I was shopping around, I was being helped in appliances and then did what I was told for my return and purchase. I was very very upset with the way I was treated as I am a loyal customer to Home Depot! It made me more upset to see him working couple days later.....I was frustrated about having to get 3 dryers before it actually worked but, the customer service was what topped it! It was the worst! FYI....I got a Whirlpool, then a GE, then a MayTag. MayTag for the win!!! Third times a charm.

The Home Depot has the largest selection of home items in town. They have great service, and their return policy is great.

Only issues with Hilo Home Depot is they only have very dated (ugly) formica counters and they have no electric ranges either.

I was told by a gentleman who was in charge of garden pots that I could buy some pots at a sale price bc there were just a few left, so I did and love them. Came back to buy the two that were left and the owner refused to honor his sales price, saying they were new and he shouldn't have done that. I left, remembering that it was not just a bad day for her but that previously she refused to let my service dog on he premises even though we had been there a few other times. We have purchased many pieces of furniture, plants, art and decor from Paradise Plants over the years. Objectively speaking we have come to realize over time that our purchases from Paradise Plants were all superior in quality and often times the same price as the pieces we bought from other stores both on-island and the ones we had shipped to the island that were far inferior in look and build quality. We purchased some pretty beds from Home World. They look great, however they are very cheaply made and we have had to rebuild all of the internal parts to make them stronger as they all broke in the first year. This was a great expense. Home World sells particle board junk. We noticed the beds we purchased from Paradise Pants had solid aluminum supports instead of cheap particle board. They are all super sturdy and look amazing and were the same price as the Home World particle board junk. Paradise Plants sells quality, unique, indoor furniture at excellent prices. Bamboo and Teak down the road is also good, but mostly used stuff so a bit like shopping at a garage sale, but sometimes you get lucky. Paradise Plants has new, gorgeous pieces every time we go in all at a good price. They also have an excellent outdoor furniture brand called Lagoon that is perfect for the environment here on the island. So far, It's the only outdoor furniture that has survived at our salty oceanfront locations and our corrosive Volcano location. That brand of outdoor furniture is Puna proof! It has no steel to get rusty and is all strong durable plastics and/or non-corroding aluminum. Very happy with quality and price as none of these end up in a landfill after 1-2 years like every other brand we tried. From price, quality/longevity, beauty of pieces, to their excellent customer service and ability to deliver and setup all pieces and have a great customer experience, you won't find a better store that is locally owned and operated employing great local people.

I was on the hunt for Culantro plant for my mom. We searched all over while shopping for veggie plants back on Oahu. Excited, I asked my hubby to take me to the Garden Exchange, I could have walked over but didn't know it was so close by, one street over from the Farmer's Market. FYI- Parking is located on the other side/back of Garden Exchange not on the main street. I asked a kind staff to guide me to where the Culantro were and killed 2 birds with one stone, I also asked if they have any Hoya plants. I loved looking at the plant selection they have. I ended up with 2 Culantro and came across a beautiful Hoya plant on trellis and for such a great price, I had to get it. Happy with my Hoya plant and culantro for my momma during this visit. I wasn't sure if it would clear agriculture inspection back at the airport, but glad it did.
