everything a farmer/horticulturist needs under one "local style" roof. the algebraic inverse of home depot, and that's why i like it.

I went to Paradise Plants recently for the first time and was absolutely astonished at the enormous…read morevariety of - not just plants (as their name would suggest), but home furnishings, couches, tables, and knick-knacks and everything else we use in our home and gardens. You name it, they have it. Buddha statues to put in the garden? Check. Super gorgeous tables and furniture? Check. They have EVERYTHING, reasonably priced to boot. One thing I really appreciate about Paradise Plants is the way that local craftspeople and locals are represented: they always have a solid selection from local woodworkers and everyone and everything there goes way back. This is no Target, Walmart, or pop up shop from people who just flew over from Idaho because they wanted to experience life in Hawaii (no offense to people who do that; it's just that when you live here, you want to support other locals and family owned-and run businesses). The only problem that I have with them is that I want everything they sell and am tempted to buy too much. PS I was just reading some other reviews and I'm left wondering if those people actually even went to Paradise Plants? That's so weird. For us, staff came and said hi when they saw us, then thankfully left us alone to browse without them breathing down our backs.

I was told by a gentleman who was in charge of garden pots that I could buy some pots at a sale price bc there were just a few left, so I did and love them. Came back to buy the two that were left and the owner refused to honor his sales price, saying they were new and he shouldn't have done that. I left, remembering that it was not just a bad day for her but that previously she refused to let my service dog on he premises even though we had been there a few other times. Just such a buzzkill and not a place I recommend

Oh wow, I didn't know this place exist here at Hilo town…read more While at the Hilo Farmer's Market , I met a lady at one of the booth and she recommended Garden Exchange. I was on the hunt for Culantro plant for my mom. We searched all over while shopping for veggie plants back on Oahu. Excited, I asked my hubby to take me to the Garden Exchange, I could have walked over but didn't know it was so close by, one street over from the Farmer's Market. FYI- Parking is located on the other side/back of Garden Exchange not on the main street. I asked a kind staff to guide me to where the Culantro were and killed 2 birds with one stone, I also asked if they have any Hoya plants. I loved looking at the plant selection they have. I ended up with 2 Culantro and came across a beautiful Hoya plant on trellis and for such a great price, I had to get it. Happy with my Hoya plant and culantro for my momma during this visit. I wasn't sure if it would clear agriculture inspection back at the airport, but glad it did. Not sure why the low ratings but I loved my first time visit, I LOVE plants, staff that helped me were all so friendly. Garden Exchange is a well established gardening store, located in Hilo with history dating back to 1964. Make a stop here for your garden needs, super huge store! Keep in mind, Plants are All Sales Final!! I hope there will be more Hoya and hope they have more selections when I visit again.
