My mother suffered a devastating stroke that left her unable to walk, unable to move her arms, and barely able to speak--at one point, the only word she could say was "ok." As a family, we were scared, overwhelmed, and unsure of what her future would look like. What this facility did for her... truly changed everything. Today, she is now speaking over 100 words. That transformation alone speaks volumes about the dedication and skill of the speech therapy team. They didn't just do their job--they gave my mother her voice back. The physical therapy department worked with her consistently, day in and day out. Even though she's still on her journey toward walking and regaining full use of her hands, the progress she's made has given her something priceless: belief. She now knows recovery is possible, and that mindset shift is everything. Let's be real--no place is perfect. But what sets this facility apart is the effort, the consistency, and the care. In a place where patients are going through some of the hardest moments of their lives, the staff still shows up with compassion and professionalism. From the valet to the front desk, from housekeeping to dietary staff, management, and especially the nurses and students putting in real, hands-on work--you can feel that people here care. And that matters more than anything. This is not just a facility--it's a place where real healing happens. To everyone there: thank you for giving my mother progress, hope, and dignity. Please keep doing what you're doing--you are truly changing lives.

Excellent PT, mostly attentive nurses, and CNAs. Special acknowledgement to Maria, both Mohammeds, Elizabeth, and Andrea, to name a few, although there were many. The location and parking are good, very good PT, good food, an overall positive, friendly environment. One notable trait, no matter who I asked for anything, coffee cup, a towel, etc. they stopped what they were doing and took me to it. Trust me, unusual! Cons: The night crew leaves a lot of room for improvement. If you're close to your loved one, you'll want to stay with them at night. Or very nearby. The bed alarms are constant and are rarely responded to quickly. It was torture for my disabled husband. I will say they were accommodating about needing different roommates. I had been in a car accident 4 years earlier and Stacy worked with me regularly until I was rid of 95% + of the pain I lived with daily from it. Not only was the therapy miraculous for me, but Stacy herself is always so kind, patient, focused, and is such an amazing light. Her knowledge and application of Feldenkrais combined with her intuitive and gentle touch were absolutely essential in my healing. I was in my 20's for the accident and 20/ 30's for the healing. I am eternally grateful that I will get to spend my mid-older years aging without the added issues of that previous damage. ***Stacy is completely emerged in her field. She is constantly keeping up with the news research and techniques, attends and hosts seminars, and has even become a product creator, filling the needs that were there for patients. Full Story: This office and Stacy Barrows have given me back a quality of life that I was sure I had lost. This is no exaggeration. I was in a car accident in 1999 and at only 20-somthing years old had suffered significant soft tissue injury. The insurance companies had completely cheated me (of course) and the practitioners I had become a patient of were not helpful - at all. I was living with back, neck, and jaw pain every day as well as bad headaches several times a week. With no opportunity to receive proper medical care and with the years building up bad habits in an unconscious attempt to circumvent the pain, I was certain this is how I would have to live the rest of my life. - Until Stacy. 4 years later (2003), my boss offered to send me to her. He had seen her years ago after a motorcycle accident that had left his knees and shoulders in serious condition. He raved about her and I was no about to pass up the opportunity to get any help I could. After seeing her regularly for a couple of years (sounds lengthy, but UNQUESTIONABLY worth it) I now live with only an occasional tweaked muscle here and there - like moving furniture, sleeping on an air mattress, or really long flights. And honestly, it's 16 years later (after the accident) so some of that is likely just age. LoL Anyhow, not only has Stacy gotten my physical condition to a place where I can trapeze, ride motorcycles, and sleep through the night (!), but she has completely changed the way I see the physical therapy profession forever. It is no exaggeration when I say that Stacy is easily one of my favorite people on this Earth.

Every staff member has a very thorough education in addiction and recovery. I'm talking book knowledge as well as years of (sometimes harrowing, often inspiring) experiences. They have an authentic passion for recovery. And they know what this kind of transformation should look like. The clinical staff at NuView possesses a diverse range of skills. These skill sets include pragmatic things like self-development training, which can help clients get jobs, write resumes, or even just manage their own money better. But they also teach important qualities like emotional intelligence, conflict management, and how to handle not wanting to get out of bed in the morning. These are important skills to learn after someone has stopped using drugs and alcohol. Why? Life gets hard when you can't rely on alcohol or drugs to make it SEEM good. So you need to do the hard work of MAKING your life better. At NuView's outpatient programs, they support and guide you through that process. Much of that involves group therapy and other kinds of counseling, including family therapy and one on one meetings. They locate your weak points and help you create a plan for dealing with them, always making sure you take it one step at a time. They also share their own knowledge with you. They know what addiction is from a medical perspective. And there's no reason why someone with an addiction shouldn't know that as well. Sometimes people don't know why they feel such a strong compulsion to drink or do drugs. The staff at NuView help clients realize that it's not some moral failure - it's a legitimate mental health condition with neurological, emotional, and interpersonal causes. And it can be treated. NuView is especially good at helping people who have a history of relapse or who have struggled with getting sober even after attending other rehabs. This is because they put more personal care into their treatment approaches than most other rehabs. Their treatment plans are generally customized for each individual client. This makes sense, since addiction is a pretty wide category, and it is not the same for everyone. Their outpatient programs provide a holistic approach to addiction. Clients have access to a safe and supportive community. They also get a social network of other people in recovery, so they can all grow together. You won't feel alone even for one minute throughout this process. For family members, they also put on many events and try to include them in the treatment process. Literally everyone gets a chance to heal and to work on themselves. If you're dealing with addiction now or if you just quit, it's time to treat yourself to a clean and sober life that's actually good. Why get sober and be miserable? At NuView, no matter how broken down you are, you WILL experience a transformation. Simple as that.

You say you'll stay for 30, they say you need to stay for 60. While the longer you remain in a CREDIBLE patient-based (usually under the care of a hospital with doctor overseeing the program) the greater chance of staying sober, BUT if you stay 60, they push for 90. God forbid you announce after 17 days that you will be leaving in 30, the staff becomes very passive aggressive and vascillates between trying to threaten clients with relapse and ignoring them altogether. The staff has ZERO accreditations other than being in recovery themselves. HIPPA and privacy is completely ignored, and have no medical background whatsoever. They do not treat the clients with any compassion or respect, unless you/your family has money. There were three people out of 65 who were solely there for alcohol (no cross-addiction). They were handed The Big Book and that was it. Those with eating disorders, methamphetamine, or pill addictions had separate groups for counseling daily. Those three never had any sessions where they were able to discuss their addiction or were given any help. The entire group went to AA speaker meetings 7 days a week, but never got delve into their own issues. Kathleen made a point to dress down the entire group over unhappy staff and actually said, "We DO NOT CARE how you got here. We don't care about your past. Stop whining and listen to your counselors, they have heard every lie and excuse coming out of you and know you better than you know yourself!" Sobriety 101, addiction is a symptom of the problem that brought them to rehab. There was absolutely no communication with family members, which is essential as it is a family disease. One person who completed their treatment after 90 days, was back the very next day as they relapsed that night. They had something called Family Week, that only those who had been at the facility for at least 90 days MIGHT be able to attend, but it was months away. Family members were encouraged to take an entire week off of work and pay for a week's stay at a hotel where they held it. Some of these people's loved ones spent every last dime to keep them there and could not take off work for a day, let alone an entire week. Kathleen's "special talent" is to single out a client and proceed to rip them apart in front of their peers (and was said to do this at Family Week repeatedly over the course of the week). Nothing she said was in the vein of healing. It was 45 minutes of verbal abuse that left people completely traumatized. MacKenzie Phillips wasn't an active member of the program, she just wandered the halls, if she was there at all. Breathe has a lot of glossy pictures and empty promises (equine therapy...there was none, a swimming pool...clients were not allowed to use it, trips to the beach...nope, too much liability). The founder bought up all but two houses on a street in Laurel Canyon (you do the math) and it looks great on their website, but that's it. It is NOT a safe place to heal. ***Bottom line, if you or someone needs help with addiction, please find a PATIENT-BASED rehab facility, that encourages family participation through visitation and group therapy. The counselors should hold degrees in psychology, drug and addiction counseling, etc and have done clinical hours during their studies. Places that show you pictures of what looks like a 5-star resort with promises of gourmet food, a spa-like atmosphere, and an easy process do not have their client's best interest at heart. As with any facility, you need to do your due diligence, ask questions, and review their qualifications. If I can educate just one person on what to look for and what to avoid, so that they can help a loved one or themselves acheive sobriety in a safe and healthy environment, then I will consider writing this incredibly worthwhile.

The Villa has the best staff, facilitators and even alumnis that I still keep in touch with today. They are now part of my family and I feel so lucky ! I will be forever grateful for them. Today I have six months sober and I can honestly say I have a totally different perspective on life than I had going in. This program has given me hope and helped me find a purpose in life. I could never forget this experience. Thank you for being a part of my journey.
