They had a driver named Mike who met me at the airport and helped ease my mind and answered my many questions on the drive to Malibu. Once I got to the Alo detox house over looking the Pacific Ocean, I was put at ease by the friendly staff and councillors, ( many of whom had some experience with recovery themselves). This was an extremely emotional time for me as I realized I would be getting to the core of my problems with Alcohol and depression over the following month, but not once did I feel it unsafe to discuss any and all topics with the amazing staff, therapists and psychologists. At the next phase my lodging was in a giant mansion with all the amenities including a pool and 24 hour staff on call to help with any issues. There was an absolute dream team of chefs who made all types of delicious meals to suite any and all dietary restrictions. Can't say enough good things about how well I was fed throughout my stay. The daily programming covered a wide variety of courses and the group discussions were where I found some of the most comfort and solidified some great friendships with other clients. Jared and Evan have created an amazing thing down there in Malibu and I hope they are aware of the impact they've had on many lives, including mine. All I can say is thank you, from the bottom of my heart to all the staff, councillors, and therapists at Alo House. I just received my 3 month chip ( the longest duration of sobriety I've had in 23 years) and Im slowly getting my life back in order. Every staff member has a very thorough education in addiction and recovery. I'm talking book knowledge as well as years of (sometimes harrowing, often inspiring) experiences. They have an authentic passion for recovery. And they know what this kind of transformation should look like. The clinical staff at NuView possesses a diverse range of skills. These skill sets include pragmatic things like self-development training, which can help clients get jobs, write resumes, or even just manage their own money better. But they also teach important qualities like emotional intelligence, conflict management, and how to handle not wanting to get out of bed in the morning. These are important skills to learn after someone has stopped using drugs and alcohol. Why? Life gets hard when you can't rely on alcohol or drugs to make it SEEM good. So you need to do the hard work of MAKING your life better. At NuView's outpatient programs, they support and guide you through that process. Much of that involves group therapy and other kinds of counseling, including family therapy and one on one meetings. They locate your weak points and help you create a plan for dealing with them, always making sure you take it one step at a time. They also share their own knowledge with you. They know what addiction is from a medical perspective. And there's no reason why someone with an addiction shouldn't know that as well. Sometimes people don't know why they feel such a strong compulsion to drink or do drugs. The staff at NuView help clients realize that it's not some moral failure - it's a legitimate mental health condition with neurological, emotional, and interpersonal causes. And it can be treated. NuView is especially good at helping people who have a history of relapse or who have struggled with getting sober even after attending other rehabs. This is because they put more personal care into their treatment approaches than most other rehabs. Their treatment plans are generally customized for each individual client. In terms of care, I really enjoyed being a patient here. This was my first experience as a patient in PHP/IOP. I was a patient for three months, dealing with mental disorder that impaired my functioning in work, school, social life, and self-care. You are assigned an individual therapist to meet with weekly and/or a case manager. You can request to switch individual therapists if you don't feel a good enough rapport between yourself and your assigned therapist. The group therapy schedule is pretty static week to week, but there is almost always a choice between two groups, so you have some ability to "customize" your schedule. I didn't enjoy all facilitators, but I enjoyed most and learned a lot about how to manage and process my emotions/thoughts/behaviors/traumas. The psychiatric team put me on the first medication combination in my life that really worked for my specific set of symptoms. They are courteous and attentive. They remember even non-clinical details about me when we meet weekly. Mission Harbor is also much more affordable (in my opinion) than other centers offering similar care. I paid my insurance's deductible--with which Mission Harbor provided flexibility due to my personal financial hardship--and the team was diligent with handling my disability insurance claim in a timely manner. I would recommend Mission Harbor to anyone looking to seriously challenge their mental disorders and carve a path to a better way of living and thinking! I would even readmit if I felt I needed the care and support again.

Everyone there was very nice and made my friend and I feel right at home. It's on the second floor above the Fresh Corn Grill so it wasn't too hard to find. As we walked in, we were greeted by a friendly pup. We removed our shoes as everyone else had, and entered the main room. There was plenty of tasty breakfast goodies to snack on as folks introduced themselves. The space was clean and smelled of sage which felt rejuvenating. We met the owner, Cory, who invited us to a sound bath session. Some of the folks sitting at the tables let us know to bring tissues... I was not expecting to need them and did not wear waterproof mascara that day, I still grabbed the tissues and went on. The sound bath room was equipped with comfy pillow like seats on the ground. The room had acoustics that transformed me into state where I felt like my seated body was one with the music. As the sounds continued I felt a deep connection with myself that I could not describe, which made me glad I listened and grabbed those tissues. I am thankful for Cory and the staff here, that sound bath was the best thing that's happened to me all year. It was better than any meditation or reiki session out there. I cannot thank you all enough. If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health or addiction and in need of help unlocking those feelings to unblock your spirit, this is the place for you. The Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) offers a structured, intensive approach, while the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) provides flexibility for those balancing treatment with daily life. Both programs incorporate individual therapy, group sessions, and medication management, creating a well-rounded treatment plan. The office experience has been smooth--staff members are friendly, organized, and accommodating. The facility itself is clean, welcoming, and designed to foster a comfortable healing environment. Narrative therapy with Isabel helped me reconnect with the younger, wounded parts of myself, and begin to integrate them into my life. If you care about anyone suffering from addiction, DO NOT SEND THEM TO BREATHE. This is a…read moreclient-based treatment center, which means MONEY is ALL they care about. You say you'll stay for 30, they say you need to stay for 60. While the longer you remain in a CREDIBLE patient-based (usually under the care of a hospital with doctor overseeing the program) the greater chance of staying sober, BUT if you stay 60, they push for 90. God forbid you announce after 17 days that you will be leaving in 30, the staff becomes very passive aggressive and vascillates between trying to threaten clients with relapse and ignoring them altogether. The staff has ZERO accreditations other than being in recovery themselves. HIPPA and privacy is completely ignored, and have no medical background whatsoever. They do not treat the clients with any compassion or respect, unless you/your family has money. There were three people out of 65 who were solely there for alcohol (no cross-addiction). They were handed The Big Book and that was it. Those with eating disorders, methamphetamine, or pill addictions had separate groups for counseling daily. Those three never had any sessions where they were able to discuss their addiction or were given any help. The entire group went to AA speaker meetings 7 days a week, but never got delve into their own issues. Kathleen made a point to dress down the entire group over unhappy staff and actually said, "We DO NOT CARE how you got here. We don't care about your past. Stop whining and listen to your counselors, they have heard every lie and excuse coming out of you and know you better than you know yourself!" Sobriety 101, addiction is a symptom of the problem that brought them to rehab. There was absolutely no communication with family members, which is essential as it is a family disease. One person who completed their treatment after 90 days, was back the very next day as they relapsed that night. They had something called Family Week, that only those who had been at the facility for at least 90 days MIGHT be able to attend, but it was months away. Family members were encouraged to take an entire week off of work and pay for a week's stay at a hotel where they held it. Some of these people's loved ones spent every last dime to keep them there and could not take off work for a day, let alone an entire week. Kathleen's "special talent" is to single out a client and proceed to rip them apart in front of their peers (and was said to do this at Family Week repeatedly over the course of the week). Nothing she said was in the vein of healing. It was 45 minutes of verbal abuse that left people completely traumatized. MacKenzie Phillips wasn't an active member of the program, she just wandered the halls, if she was there at all. Breathe has a lot of glossy pictures and empty promises (equine therapy...there was none, a swimming pool...clients were not allowed to use it, trips to the beach...nope, too much liability). The founder bought up all but two houses on a street in Laurel Canyon (you do the math) and it looks great on their website, but that's it. It is NOT a safe place to heal. ***Bottom line, if you or someone needs help with addiction, please find a PATIENT-BASED rehab facility, that encourages family participation through visitation and group therapy. The counselors should hold degrees in psychology, drug and addiction counseling, etc and have done clinical hours during their studies. Places that show you pictures of what looks like a 5-star resort with promises of gourmet food, a spa-like atmosphere, and an easy process do not have their client's best interest at heart. As with any facility, you need to do your due diligence, ask questions, and review their qualifications. If I can educate just one person on what to look for and what to avoid, so that they can help a loved one or themselves acheive sobriety in a safe and healthy environment, then I will consider writing this incredibly worthwhile.

I had lost hope and was terrified that the rest of my life I would be stuck in my addiction loop of trying to stop but never being able to do it on my own. Once I arrived at Thrive I knew within the first couple weeks that this place was special. The staff were kind and helpful. I didn't feel like just another number. I felt like everyone genuinely wanted me to be included and most importantly wanted me to succeed. It's scary to put your life "on hold" and your sobriety first, but all of the goals I set for myself in that first month , I have reached in the past year! And on May 24th reached my one year sober! Which is mind blowing Thrive showed me how to live life sober and enjoy it. They showed me how to be a good daughter, a sister, and a friend. They showed me how to look within and work through the shame I was carrying with me and come out on the other side I can truly say Thrive changed my life for the better and if you're on the fence about sobriety give this place a chance. After 20+ years in active addiction I thought I was a lost cause but they helped me build myself back up and gave me the template to build my life backup . After having a family member reside at this facility, I would like to respectfully share some…read moreconcerns regarding our experience. While we appreciate the efforts of the staff and recognize the challenges involved in providing care and support, we encountered ongoing difficulties with communication throughout our family member's stay. Communication with the assigned case manager was often limited, and requests for updates regarding our loved one's progress and well-being were not always acknowledged or addressed in a timely manner. As family members, we relied on these updates to remain informed and reassured. The lack of consistent communication frequently left us uncertain about his status and concerned for his overall well-being. In addition, maintaining direct contact with our family member proved challenging at times. Multiple attempts were made to obtain information and establish communication, but responses were often delayed or unavailable. This created unnecessary stress and uncertainty for those of us who were actively involved in supporting his care and recovery. We also received feedback from our family member, as well as observations shared by other residents, indicating that some interactions with case management staff could have benefited from greater patience, attentiveness, and responsiveness. While we understand that staff members manage significant responsibilities, respectful and compassionate communication plays a critical role in fostering trust and supporting residents effectively. Equally important is the partnership between a facility and a resident's family. Families are often the primary source of emotional support, advocacy, and continuity of care for their loved ones. Maintaining open communication and working collaboratively with family members helps ensure the best possible outcomes for residents and strengthens the support system that contributes to their success. Family involvement should be viewed as an essential component of the care process rather than an afterthought. These comments are offered respectfully and constructively, with the hope that they may assist in enhancing communication practices, strengthening family engagement, and improving the overall experience for both residents and their loved ones.
