This hobby shop is great! People here are exceptionally helpful, very knowledgable, and selection is amazing. I highly recommend this shop if you like plastic model aircraft, cars, or trucks. I haven't bought any RC items from this shop, but that selection also appears to be very good. I LOVE this store! They have an eclectic selection of plastic models, as well as hobby tools that I've been able to find nowhere else in town. They carry model railroad supplies, plastic kits, RC car parts, model rockets, and so many other very cool hobby supplies that I wish I could have afforded when I was young enough to have the time to devote to my hobbies. The staff are quick to help and knowledgeable, and the prices are reasonable. As a plus, because they're affiliated with the Ace Hardware, you can use your applicable coupons and your rewards membership there. SWEET! I have had this little train running around my coffee table for as long as I can remember. This year I found it unresponsive and felt devastated. I inquired and was told to bring it by. My Santa this year was a tall gentleman that fixed it, free of charge. I am so grateful and will think of the Hobby Store each time I watch it chug round. BTW... Traveling in a van through Tucson and decided to pick up a model to work on. Small project in small space seemed ideal to search Yelp for a hobby store and found this place. Was concerned that it might not even be in business as the few reviews were dated, so called to be sure it was real. Boy was I surprised! Not only still in business, but an amazing selection of all things model kits. Add to that friendly and helpful employees. Will definitely be back. It's connected to an Ace Hardware store that is also amazing.  Hopefully this Yelp review will help others learn of this Hobby Place and check it out for something more interesting to do than scanning your phone. Although the selection may be limited in this relatively small shop, having any sort of viable hobby store remains a huge plus for the community. My hobby is N-scale trains, not the store's strong point. Still, I like having local access to supplies. read more

So I bought a teton and the motor broke 5 times but all they say is that "you were using it wrong" and "we tested the piss out of it" they tested it on asphalt driving it back and forth but I use my trucks on dirt and the motor just over heats and breaks but what they say is "you must have done 50 donuts in a row" so after going through 5 motors I let my father drive it but that motor broke but my father broke it driving normally but they say that it's his fault just so they don't have to give any form of compensation it's sad all they will do is replace the part that broke with the same part so in conclusion if you have a part that broke and all they do is replace it with the same part either demand a refund with evidence that you were using it normally with evidence like a video of using it before it broke or just replace the part with a better part oh here's a better idea but anywhere but here read more

Ace may be the place for the helpful hardware man, but The Hobby Place is the place for all things truly hobby - model trains, planes, and automobiles (sounds like a good name for a movie). This store is two doors down from the Ace Hardware, where until recently all this stuff resided. There's a very good selection of HO and N scale train stock, building kits, supplies and tools in particular. There's a decent selection of remote control aircraft, and if you like building model aircraft and cars, you will find a good selection of kits as well as tools, paint and airbrush supplies. Don't expect bargains, but you will get a lot of personal assistance and a decent inventory to choose from. read more

Attached to one of the largest and most well-maintained Ace Hardware stores *in the country*, Hobby Place carries the widest selection of high-quality hobby supplies in Tucson. Being a veteran of miniatures painting of various shapes and sizes, I can find all the top brands here! Vallejo model / game / air colour, an extensive selection of Woodland scenics (I've seen none better in southern Arizona, and come to think of it, maricopa county as well), Testors, and others. Most of the painting products I buy are very competitively priced, even against internet vendors! And definitely the best prices in Tucson for Vallejo paints. I'm not very experienced in model trains, but it looks like they have a great selection of products. Some of my needs for scenery spreads over to the model train side, and again, the Woodland Scenics selection is pretty amazing. On this note, there is also a huge selection of Plastruct products (I've never seen a bigger selection for this company in person). I've been extremely pleased with the knowledgeable staff as well. They always can hold a conversation regarding their products and everyone I've talked to has had encyclopedic knowledge not only of the products in the store, but stuff *next door* at the Ace just in case I can't find a product in the Hobby Place! read more
