It's so exciting when you try a new business and it turns out to be your new "place." After admiring them on social media for so long, my family decided to take the leap and order holiday specialty cakes from The Hive for our dessert. You will be so happy to know these cakes are just as beautiful, maybe more, then they are on Instagram! When we saw the holiday menu online, we knew we had to try it immediately. I love that they have an online ordering system where you are promptly invoiced to submit half of your payment ahead of time, and pay the other half when you arrive to pick up your order. The Studio is super cute with vibrant colors and quirky details that really give the space personality. They have a sweet little coffee bar at the front as well as a bakery case with brownies, cookies, and other house bakery specialties. Our cakes were absolutely fabulous. You can really tell the difference between a cake made with love and a mass-market store-bought cake. The peppermint chocolate cake literally tasted like a boozy York peppermint Patty. The cranberry almond cake had the perfect almond flavor but was not a complete sugar bomb. We all commented on how we loved the icing and attention to detail on both of these cakes. We had such a great experience with them that we came back a few weeks later To purchase a custom birthday cake. Again, they exceeded our expectations and we were thrilled. I went here for the Cupcake Crawl. The cupcake I got was carrot cake. The design was very elegant. The icing was light but unfortunately a bit much for the cake. It took the flavor away from the cake. There was also a little bit too much of raisins and carrots for the little amount of cake you get. The will have a butter beer cupcake so I will go back to try that. I gave a three star since the service was great and the icing was not bad. They are worth a second try. The lady was very friendly. Be warned that they do close early. We just made it there. read more

For my son's 10th birthday I wanted to get him a really special cake. I inquired to many bakeries and decided on The Hive because they were close and they sent me pictures of what the cake could look like. Very professional. I went in and paid my deposit and the cake made to look like a Nintendo Switch was ready on party day! The cake looked so good! His friends loved the cake and so did he. My son like plain flavors so the cake was vanilla with chocolate buttercream.he loved it! It tasted very good. So good that my husband requested a cake and cupcakes for his birthday the following week! He is also a plain flavor guy so got the same vanilla cake with chocolate buttercream.the cupcakes were amazing! So moist and flavorful. The cake however was a little dry. I was shocked because my son's cake was so good. That's the reason for the 4 stars. Had his cake been as great as my son's, it would have been 5 stars all the way. In the far western suburb of Amhert, Ohio lies a bakery that creates desserts as pleasing to the eyes as they are to the mouth. Calvin C states the owner couldn't be sweeter. I find that funny because she is sweet making sweet creations. The cupcakes are subtle without being too sugary. For sugar addicts like Kristi T I am sure it is enough to make you login into Yelp, create a profile and write one scornful review of The Hive. Nothing more, nothing less. Just one negative review boasting of tossing $27 worth of delicious cup cakes into the trash. Hell, if I had $27 to throw into the trash, I would do so at the Lido Lounge. Maybe I need to start garbage picking in Amherst. I recommend the Funky Monkey cupcake. If i have any major events coming up, I will splurge for a custom design cake. As we entered, we were greeted with a smile and straight ahead was their case filled with delights. We chose four cupcakes. I got the lovely pink strawberry one. It was better than I imagined. Real strawberries and not strawberry flavoring. I am not a frosting person, but this frosting was like a fresh strawberry milkshake which melted in my mouth. I can't wait to try the other flavors we got. They have a cake baking event this week which I can't attend, but I signed up for their emails so I can take advantage of future opportunities. read more

I used to love this place! until this time; we ordered my daughter a plain plink cake w gold drip (a pic from their book) first, they couldn't do any metallics so she said to do a white drip. we paid $65 for the cake(wasn't an issue just wanted her to get what she wanted). she picked up the cake &there were confetti sprinkles all over it.we wanted something elegant &plain. she picked up the cake just before they closed for several days so we couldn't do anything about it at that point. that's what we were getting. My daughter ordered a very expensive smash cake. I could of made it myself, and I'm not a experienced cake decorator. Very unimpressed.

This business was supposed to make a cake for my niece's first birthday. We sent a picture in of what we wanted, and her mother looked everywhere for a quality baker. The pictures on their Facebook/Instagram lead us to believe that would be the same quality of work we'd get for her birthday cake. We wanted a cake with butterflies and flowers on it, which we provided a picture of. The cake had small writing on it, the butterflies were smaller than expected, and the cakes did not look alike. We all know the cakes would have small differences but this was TOTALLY not the same kind of cake at all. NOT EVEN THE FLAVOR! So my cousin was given a $15 credit on a $75 cake, but not a full apology. They were rude to her, which in the long run cost them a customer and a piece of their reputation. read more

I was rather disappointed with the cake we received for my daughter's birthday. I searched high and low looking for a quality baker. Compared to their work on their page, I believe I got a cake that was not up to their usual work standards. I mean it is important we check people work before we buy it right? That is exactly what I did. When I received the cake, it had small butterflies. I gave them a picture of the cake that I wanted. I even communicated multiple times via email. I expected the butterflies of the cake to be bigger than what I received. The top of the cake with my daughter's name was rather plain along with very little butterflies. I planned the party months in advance. I looked for cake designs too. I know two cakes will not be exactly alike. I understand that fully, but the cake isn't even similar to what I wanted. Instead of telling me that they couldn't do it in the beginning. They said we never have done a cake like that before AFTER giving me my cake instead of saying that beforehand. When it came to the flavor of the cake, it was completely wrong. It was supposed to be raspberry buttercream, and it was not that flavor at all. In order to make up for doing the cake completely wrong, they decided to give me 15 dollar credit on a 75 dollar cake. Unfortunately, she never truly said sorry for my cake but instead was rude to me which I didn't appreciate. I would have loved to be a repeat customer but will not be coming back. read more

Legit the best frosting I have ever had. So light, airy, and doesn't make you feel the need to book a dentist appointment upon finishing. So many fun flavors and designs. I really hate doing this to a new place but I don't want consumers to waste their money. My husband picked up one dozen assorted and not one was edible. The cake was flavorless, stale, hard and dense. The frosting tasted like straight Crisco and chocolate frosting was bitter and tasted like cocoa out of the can. oh and the cost was $27 for dozen and the all went in the trash. read more
