Fantastic experience. It was our first time in Key West and first time traveling with a baby, so we were basically terrified. But The Hip Tourist came to the rescue! We called, booked, and everything was as smooth as can be. The crib was set up in our hotel room before we even arrived, along with a sheet and soft blanket, and a sound machine and high chair. They delivered a rear-facing car seat to the airport when we arrived, and despite our very early-morning return trip, they made arrangements so the car seat could be returned to them when we left. Completely seamless transaction, super patient and accommodating staff. Highly, highly recommend. read more

During a face to face visit with the owner, one and a half weeks ago, I left my name and number to request a children's car/booster seat along with the dates needed. She assured me someone would call me the next day to follow up. Decided today to stop by shop to request needed item since not hearing back. Lights on, door unlocked...I walk in and wait a few minutes for assistance. With no visible sign of an associate I loudly said...Hello...again... Hello... giving a few minutes in case an associate was out back or in restroom. After no acknowledgment I stepped back to the front door and opened to activate bells and look for any posted message I might have missed. None noted. I then called the biz number and was promptly answered with identification of The Hip Tourist I proceeded to ask if there was anyone on site to assist as I was in the store. At this point the female voice was quick to adress me with a rude and condescending tone stating she the owner was out on a delivery. I tried to ask when would be a better time to revisit the store. I was then rudely told again she was on delivery and that she worked 7 days a week again laughing. By this point I realized I was no longer interested in doing business with her. She continued to ramble at which time I said, I'll do something else and ended the call. Minutes later I receive a text again in a less than professional manner that she was delivering a wheel chair and had to pull over ...if I would leave my name and info she'd try to help me. I did return a text stating I was not pleased with her rude response when I called and would most likely leave an online review. When reading other online reviews it appears this owner has a strong history for presenting a rude and incompetent approach with customers. We are second home owners in Key West and love the wonderful community and the many kind and courteous experiences we have encountered... unfortunately The Hip Tourist is not one of them. WARNING!!! DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE!! ZERO STARS! I wish I would have read the other reviews first. Kathy is an absolute mess of a business owner. She lost my order multiple times and made excuses every time she messes up. She can't remember something you asked her or told her 5 minutes before. The worst part is that she charged me almost DOUBLE for my rentals and refuses to give me an invoice after multiple texts and calls. After the charge on my card, she told me her website is outdated and the prices are actually higher. WTF!? And the "girl who does the books" is out of the office so she of course can't look up my invoice. I'll try again this week. In the meantime I filed a dispute with my credit card company. In the beginning she initiated text conversation with me and then conveniently stopped answering after I questioned the charges. Do yourself a favor. Use the babyquip service. They charge a delivery fee but you don't have to deal with Kathy's antics. read more

A colleague traveled to the Douglas House this week with her spouse to celebrate a milestone birthday, and I thought it would be nice to arrange for a basket with wine, glasses, cheese, crackers, and flowers to be awaiting their arrival in their room with a card wishing a Happy Birthday. I contacted the front desk, who stated they do not offer that service but HIGHLY recommended Cathy Fernandez, owner of The Hip Tourist, whom they said provides this service. I contacted Cathy and requested she deliver one of her lovely baskets, only to be alerted the next day with the below picture of what was delivered. No card, a bottle of wine with only one glass, a brick of cheese, and grapes left in the fridge. My colleague had no idea my thoughts were even with her on this milestone birthday and assumed the hotel provided these items in the room for guests. Not only is this lady rude, have 0 customer service skills, she only delivered half of what we discussed and I paid for. She also scolded me on the phone when I called to ask why I haven't been charged yet on the day she was supposed to deliver. The "fruit and cheese" looks amazing on her site and she promised fresh. It looked like a small precut fruit mix you get from the grocery store. I asked for a nice bottle of champagne, no champagne was delivered. I also asked for an email reciept which I never got. Owner was awful to talk to - very spacey, could not remember anything and rude. We were supposed to have a high chair when we arrived (I had made arrangements a month ahead) but no high chair - they finally delivered the next day - no apology or credit for the mix-up. Also rented a car seat - fortunately the driver took car of picking that up and dropping off. Then to get high chair back was big mixup also - thought it would be easier to text due to her forgetting things but that didn't work much better. I definitely would not recommend. Never worked with such a disorganized and rude business owner before. this company advertised an inflatable mattress ( twin) for $45 for a week. The woman Kathy, who appears to be the only person working there ( delivery, pick up, phone) tried, at the end of the week, to charge me $321 for the twin inflatable mattress. she said "well- its new." I didn't ask for new ( and new is still much less than $321.). She is affable on the phone and dodged questions. Don't be fooled. She will try to gouge you. She then offered $75, finally offered"6837". I insisted on clarity for what that means and hopefully she is charging $68.37. This is a lot more than advertised but I just wanted it settled. What a great service and so helpful. I request flowers for my wife's birthday trip to Key West along with some provisions in our rental. I sent a full shopping list and they arranged everything! The room and refrigerator were fully stocked and staged perfectly! My wife was so impressed with the surprise and the fact that we didn't need to go out and do all the shopping. I was just going to let it go but since the company decided to charge me 3 weeks after a delivery that never occurred, I figured a review was warranted. We did a multi-city family trip through FL and I called before leaving to inquire about renting strollers and puddle jumpers for 2 toddlers. The woman I spoke with said that wouldn't be a problem. Upon arriving in KW (early afternoon), I called and made what I thought were confirmed arrangements for delivery that day, providing my credit card info. The woman said she would be away on vacation when I needed to return the items, but we would be able to work something out. At 7:30 that evening, I called that to check on delivery. The woman said she was out but would call me back. Never called back (I even tried again). At this point, I just decided it wasn't worth it, they hadn't charged me. Unfortunately, it was impossible to find either item and and had I known this wasn't going to be a reliable service, I would have brought from home. There was a lot we had to skip. Fast forward to today (3 weeks later), and I see an alert about a charge. I called and spoke to the bookkeeper who said "I found your details on a slip of paper so I just charged you." So no show, no call back (at any time during the length of my stay or afterwards), and you just keep my credit card info hanging around on a piece of paper. Do not recommend. read more

called a week in advance to book a wheelchair for my injured son. my first question was exactly, what time would we need to return it by. Normal question for any other reservation anywhere seeing as we wouldn't want it if it had to be back by 3 (which the other island wheelchair business needed it back by). Kathy said what do you mean. So I very clearly explained, "what time do you close so we have it back in time." She again said she didn't understand my question and "it's not like they come and take it out from underneath us." then she saracastically said "wow you must have bad experiences with reservations." Nope - just with you so far. Kathy left it that we would call her on our way to Key West. seems like a bad idea if she has other reservations. Called her on our way, and she was busy with our customer. I asked if we should go to her office or meet her somewhere and her answer was a repeat of "let me finish up with this customer." After reading the positive reviews, I can tell you that was not my experience. The Hip Tourist was recommended by our hotel, so I called to inquire about some of their offerings for our upcoming trip. Customer service was horrible and seemed to be rushed, the lady I spoke with did not appear to be familiar with what was on their website and she seemed to be perturbed that I called the bags "goody bags". Maybe they weren't bags, but it was hard to tell because of the poor quality of the website. Maybe she was having a bad day, maybe not, but I wouldn't expect you would treat a potential client this way. Unless of course you have a monopoly on the gift basket market. If I could give NO stars I would. I am extremely disappointed in the service provided. RUN don't walk away from this business. I ordered decorations and snacks to be put in to our suite as a surprise for a 50th birthday celebration for our trip to Key West. Cathy the owner was extremely difficult to get a hold of, but I had told her several times of our arrival time to the hotel. Despite the information I had provided to her and her assuring me all would be taken care of, we arrived to find that she had not been there, which basically ruined the surprise. To add insult to injury Cathy LIED to the hotel staff and said I told her to be there LATER?!? We were all standing in the lobby of the hotel WAITING NOT for the hotel to have the room ready but for this company to deliver a "surprise" hours late. When we entered the room once they finally did arrive with the "decorations" we found a bag of chips propped up on the counter. NO PRESENTATION of the rest of the snacks etc as depicted on the website "www.thehiptourist.com", the balloons that I did receive (not all were delivered) were deflated on the floor of the room less than 12 hours later. I was never provided an itemized receipt even though I was promised it via text, email etc. All requests to Cathy were answered with the same responses: "I am very busy as I am the only person running this business", "I need to find your paperwork", "I'll have to call you back" etc. etc. Now two weeks later a charge shows up on my credit card bill that is way more than I am going to pay for the lackluster service I was provided. Let this be a warning. If you want a decorated room you are better off packing decorations with you and doing it yourself. For what I received I could of done a much better job. read more

We needed a stroller for our 20 month old daughter while we vacationed in Key West. We didn't want to try to check one and risk it getting damaged on the plane. Do NOT use this company. Cathy, the owner, is impossible to work with. We used their service over the Thanksgiving holiday. Problem #1 They arrived with food and we were told that they would "be back" with the rest of the food. Little did e know that "be back" would mean the following day! Problem #2 Receipts! I called during our vacation and said I would need individual receipts, since the bill was being split between a few couples. Cathy told me it normally takes "awhile" because she is "so busy." I asked what that meant, and she went on to explain I wouldn't be able to get individual store receipts until the following week. I accepted and said ok. Here I am, 10 days later, and still waiting for the receipts. I just called and spoke with Cathy and she, again, continued to say how busy she is and has "other customers." Problem #3 I called Cathy tonight to follow up on the receipts, because my three emails went unanswered earlier this week. Good luck with follow-up from the Hip Tourist! Cathy kept saying she needed to hang up tonight to free up her time to send me the receipts. I tried, over and over, explaining that I wouldn't have even called if someone would have at least acknowledged my emails! Cathy makes it hard to get a sentence out, though, without interrupting 2-3 times per sentence. Problem #4 The "Hip Tourist" lost my credit card number, and had to email me asking for it again! Hopefully my card number was not written on a paper and lost somewhere. Unreal. I'd HIGHLY suggest using a different service, or shopping yourself. Amazing service. Such a great idea! My husband and our 8-month-old rolled into town needing a decent stroller to tackle the Key West streets and sand and a good pool float; Hip Tourist certainly delivered! We rented an awesome BOB jogging stroller and go ourselves a great pool float for our little guy. Loved the fact that we could pick it up from their location and that they'd come to our hotel to retrieve it once we checked out. Saved us from having to bring our stroller from home! If I could give this woman no stars I would. She is the most rudest person I've ever spoken to. She doesn't allow you to speak. She continues to tell you how busy she is and trying to get to everyone which is her excuse for not returning emails and calls. I must have reached out to her several times this week and each time I had to go over what I wanted EVERY time. She promised to call me back once she got to her office but literally 4 hours has passed and I had to be the one to reach out to her. I told her how rude and unprofessional she was being and not one time did she apologize. I'm totally shocked she's still in business from her ride demeanor and how horrible she is with communication. I literally had to hand up on her because she was not interested in hearing my concerns. I'm so glad I didn't go with this so called business. She had the nerve to tell me "oh I understand how frustrating this is for me but it's even more frustrating for me because you're not the one in this chair doing it". Like what!!! Feeling completely ripped off .Incredibly disorganized after five phone calls (which should have been my red flag) I ordered a few welcome items for my daughter and fiancés arrival in key west . Ordered a "presentation"of cheese and crackers salsa and chips, rose petals wine and beer . I was charged 99.00 for a bag of Tostitos, a pack of crackers , 1 block of cheese , one jar of salsa a 6 pack of coors light and a cheap bottle of white wine . The " presentation " consisted of an uncut block of cheese in the refrigerator with the rest of the items strewn on the kitchen table . 10 flower petals placed on the bed. Instead of the card I requested my greetings were scribbled on the Tostitos bag!! Literally Scribbled as if written by a five year old. So instead of my daughter arriving to a lovely surprise she called to tell me the previous guests must have forgotten there food!! I wanted to decorate our hotel room for my girlfriends birthday everyone I called gave me her number like other reviews say not only is she rude but she doesn't have any costumer service skills she always said she would call me back and never did It got to the point where I felt as if I was annoying her when she finally got back to me we discussed everything I wanted which she got it all right but when I got the hotel room it looked like a cheap set up for $200 the balloons were already deflating I asked for rose pedals on the floor and bed there wasn't any . the flower bouquets didn't look $30's like we discussed they looked the mini ones you get at a hospital last minute. When I noticed the champagne and strawberries weren't there I called her and told her some things were missing she became defensive right away and said "tell them to bend their fat ass over and look in the fridge" I was obviously in shock because I didn't know if she was talking about the people I was with or the hotel staff either way you don't talk to someone like that and when I mentioned the rose pedals she said she'll call me back so she can talk to the hotel staff . I'm still waiting for that call that I'm probably not gonna get if there's any way to dispute this charge with my bank let me know because I will. My partner was having her birthday. I called and ordered several items and my room decorated. I spoke to a person several times and she seemed unorganized and she kept forgetting who she was talking too. They never delivered anything or decorated the room. When I called she claimed they were waiting for it to be ready. The room was ready at 8am. I was arriving at 12pm. When I called her she seemed overwhelmed . It is a BIG DiSAPPOiNTMENT!! This is a great service. They have a shop right in downtown, but they were able to drop off a stroller to our hotel on New Years Day and pick it up when we were finished with our trip one week later. They are easily reachable by phone, and very friendly. I thought the stroller would be just simple, cheap umbrella stroller but it was very strong and versatile, and in very good shape. 5 stars, no doubt. Great people. Im glad I found them by chance on the internet before the trip! I would recommend them to anyone traveling to the area. read more
