When I heard Low Groves (my nephew) was performing in Chicago ,I had to make a drive into the city on a Monday night. This is your Classic Chicago Neighborhood Dive Bar offering indoor and outdoor seating with a back area with a stage for live musical performances. They don't serve food but they do have a nice draft beer selection. Street parking is available and there is a cover charge to see most of their live music performances. Great people here at a true Chicago dive bar. I finally got to see Low Groves (my nephew from Asheville, NC perform along with Orillia and Conor Lynch. The sound quality in this intimate setting was really good. It's so fun to see original music performed by singer/songwriters and the Low Groves cover of a Wilco tune was a perfect nod to his hometown. Be sure to come here and support musicians. read more

The concept of the Hideout is pretty simple - a bar in front and a small venue in the back. This was the first time we'd been there, and went to see a band a family member is in. The bar is good. It's dark and they have lots of different beers on special. Not being a beer drinker, I had a bourbon. The price was pretty good. Their selection isn't huge, but it isn't a very large bar either. The venue is small and lined with curtains for sound baffling. There is a stage at the end of the room, about eight tables - four on each wall. The rest is open space to stand and watch the acts. Being small, the acoustics could be a little better. Of course, the bands are loud and mixing the sound in a small space is difficult. I think the sound person did a great job to compensate, though. It was fun and I'm sure we'll be back to see more live music. read more

A local with lots of character. The venue for performances is divided from the bar! The venue is decorated with many fish mounted on the walls. The bartenders were quick and were able keep up with the demand, and prices were very reasonable. My son....Low Groves performed here and it was a great venue ( on Spotify ) . The sound was excellent and the venue was perfect for his Chicago debut, he is based in Charlotte. They have many shows and performances scheduled in the upcoming months! A great venue! read more

The door staff is beyond rude. I was meeting a friend then and when I walked in there was no one up front. I started walking toward the bar and this guy physically gets in my space telling me to get back and asks where my mask is. I was thrown off because of his extreme reaction. I said, I don't have a problem wearing a mask. Then he says, where is your ticket? I said, a ticket? He then backs up and says sarcastically with his hands pointing toward the back area and then around the air, "This... is a MuSIc Veenuuueeee." He was clearly being so rude. The person behind me seeing everything going on says, the masks are by the door. At that time, my friend came over and then he started being nice to her. I had one drink and left. I'm not going to stay at a place and spend money so the staff can be rude at a rundown smelly bar. read more

Great venue for seeing music entertainment. Ambiance is right out of a movie scene. You'll feel like you're in your favorite bar, listening to a favorite band. Unfortunately for those who can't stand for long periods of time, it's basically standing room only. There are a few tables with stools. The staff is sooooo friendly. Great drinks. A cool little concert venue in one of Chicago's newest neighborhoods, Lincoln Yards. This place is divey in all the right ways, and I can think of nowhere better to grab a drink and watch a shocking amount of 60-something white women rocking out to jazz/hip-hop fusion. This was an utterly confusing experience, and I don't know if it's the norm here, but I really, really hope it is. Drinks were all around $5-10, but there is a $10 minimum for card, so either bring cash, get on the same tab, or don't be such a light weight and buy two drinks. Also def use the bathroom that's inside the concert area; when you walk in, it's dark, but there is an automatic light above the raised toilet that turns on as you get close. Needless to say, I felt like royalty, and you could too. There's lounge(ish) area close to the bar where you can chill with your friends if you're not feeling the music. It's not close to any of the CTA lines, so it could be tough to get to if you don't have a car, but if you do have one, there is tons if free parking outside. Overall, I loved this as a concert venue, and I think once the neighborhood develops a little more, this will be a really cool hangout spot for locals read more

All around great place. We've been bringing our kids to Soup and Bread and Veggie Bingo for years. My husband and I have been to birthday parties, porch concerts, work parties, live music, holiday sales, the Interview Show, record releases, and we've just stopped by for a drink and conversation. The staff is consistent and wonderful. The music is always great. There's art and comedy and wonderful patrons. Love The Hideout! The difference between The Hideout at 4pm and 8pm is insane. I went this past Wednesday to meet some friends for their Veggie Bingo. Veggie Bingo starts about 6pm during the summer on Wednesday - it's over for this year though. Being the beastly girl that I am, I got to the bar about an hour before my friends, plopped myself at the bar and started guzzling down cans of PBR. It was a HOT day and I cannot even explain how amazing that first sip of an ice cold beer in a can was. Melted my ice cold stone heart a little bit. As I sat there drinking, messing around on my phone, I looked over their beer menu written on a chalkboard. They had some pretty good selections for cheap prices. Now I got a non-tall can of PBR for $3. I was kinda sad that they didn't tell me any specials and about half hour later they put up a sign with some tallboy cans for $3! Another strange thing was I got my first tallboy for $3 and the second I was charged $5 for the exact same drink. Eh, whatevs. At 4pm, it was just me and the workers hanging out which was cool. Now for Veggie Bingo we went into a big room in the back and when we left at 8pm, the inside and entire patio was jam packed. I'm talking people sitting around everywhere outside - at the tables but also also on the sidewalk, on the grass, on ledges. This place is clearly the hip to be spot and I definitely didn't guess it when I first arrived. The good thing about going when I did was I snagged a parking spot right out front - score! I had a really fun time and plan to go back next year for Bingo. I'm sure I'm going to pop in way before then though because I enjoyed the bar. read more

I came here to see a live podcast recording recently, and I think this was a pretty damn cool venue for it. I'd seen photos of the stage in the back room here on other peoples' social media and always thought it looked cool, so when I found out I was headed to The Hideout for this show, I was psyched. We took a pretty unique route to get to this place, because it's in a hidden spot. Hence the name. But when we arrived, it looked even cooler than I had imagined. It looks like a two-story house, with a lot of patio seating and cool lighting inside. I had a horror movie log cabin feel, but at the same time I didn't feel like I was going to die. Does that make sense? No? Awesome. My boyfriend ordered four Bud Lights right as we walked in, because there is a $10 credit card minimum. Holding two Bud Lights in the Hideout felt pretty rad, to be honest. We stood in the main bar area , and then about 15 minutes before the show, the doors to the back room with the stage were opened. There were three rows of folding chairs and a lot of standing room, and a bathroom right inside the back area as well. I appreciated this, especially after drinking a lot of Bud Lights all night. This place was really cool, the staff was quick, and I would probably come back more if it was within walking distance of anywhere I go. I will definitely be back, I just don't know when! Four years since an update? That's insane! Hideout now has a summer patio. Sip beers sitting in big wooden patio furniture as you watch cop cars refuel at the City fueling station nearby! The Sears Tower and 311 S. Wacker (Heyyyyyy) are beautifully in view, too. Bands aplenty at the Hideout! Nice bartenders, good beer, dancing on Saturday nights, and bands! This place is a Chicago institution. My favorite time to visit is the winter, when visiting this back alley house takes on an other-worldly dimension. I had high expectations coming in here going by other Yelp reviews, but the place was dead on the Friday night I visited. I had a good time anyway, as we were a group of four and drank and chatted our way through night. First of all, I did not do my research well as we came in here hungry and found out that there was no food menu. They only offer Lays chips small bags in 2 flavors. By the end of my first vodka soda, I had finished 3 bags of chips LOL! Beer on draft were reasonably priced at $6 on an average and had some good options. There were 3 bands performing that night - starting at 9:30 pm and spending about 30 mins on stage. Perhaps it was a Halloween-themed performance, as the mood in the small auditorium was somber and I didn't enjoy it. There were not more than 20 people. Thankfully outside food is allowed, so we were able to enjoy our Dominos pizza along with our drinks. read more

This is a great bar with regular live music and several other events. It has a very neighborhood-y feel and all the employees seem friendly and welcoming. Their outdoor patio space is lovely and the drinks are solid. (Also, my friend's dad performs here on Thursday nights I think and makes some really cool music with alternative instruments so definitely check that out!) read more

I'm not especially religious, but God bless The Hideout for welcoming a vast variety of people and performers into its cozy-as-an-evening-in-front-of-the-fireplace bar and living room. (No, there's no fireplace; just a feeling, haha.) I've been here a couple times this year, by chance to hear alt-country music. The ten or twelve buck entry fee is fair for the high-level musical fare that has performed here. Robbie Fulks and Friends rocked the house one evening, most-recently we returned to groove and laugh with Lonesome Still, followed by Gin Palace Jesters, both high-energy bands with plenty of good, old-fashioned fringe on their shirts and blouses. One of the performers remarked that The Hideout owns its property and has no plans for cashing in on what must be a goldmine under its barely-kept building. I hope so; either a rags-to-riches story or an eminent domain crime would be a shame to read about in the Sunday papers. read more

The Hideout is one of the best bars in Chicago. The bar is in an old home and supposedly operated as a speakeasy during Prohibition. It is located in a largely industrial area, which adds to the charm. When you enter The Hideout you walk into an intimate bar in the front room and there is a small music venue in the back room. My wife and I have attended the Valentine's Day Makeout Party the last two years, and it is fantastic. The Makeout Party Orchestra consisted of 18 distinguished musicians playing innovative versions of love songs and films scores. The bartenders were quick and friendly. The bar is decently priced, well stocked, and has a pretty good beer list. Each time I have visited I have been able to try a new, unique beer. read more

When we pulled up to The Hideout at the end of Wabansia, I thought it could be mistaken for someone's house with beer signs hanging off of it. I used to work around the corner, so I was used to that part of town where I hoped I wouldn't be found later in an industrial dumpster. But it was kind of a thrill. I came here with some friends to see Tim Heidecker live. A ridiculous man in a ridiculous place with my ridiculous friends, it was a formula for success. So this venue is small and intimate, which makes it feel that much more special and like anything goes. But when it comes to a comedy show like this, it puts most of the audience on an even playing field for the comedian to see you and call you out... which I loved. Tim was insane and the crowd was losing their minds over his antics. It was such a casual atmosphere that Tim hung out at the bar with the crowd the rest of the night. One of the grooviest bars/venues in Chicago. Hidden away in a semi industrial area; but if you follow the neat signs you'll be just fine. No complaints on drink prices, the bartenders aren't generally chatty but quick to present you with your drink. The bar area does get pretty packed when you are attending a show here- not the biggest bar room area, but there are a few tables you can sit at if you are lucky. Not sure what the men's pisser situation is but the women's restroom is really nice. Never dirty. I LOVE the stage room. There's about 6 tables on each side of the room you can lounge at. The string lights on the ceiling have been one of my favorite things about this place, as well as the Hideout sign above the stage. Not to mention the killer fish decor hanging on the walls. Who doesn't want to go between staring at a mounted fish all the while watching whatever band you came to see perform. Hideout will forever have a special place in my heart and puts on some solid shows. I always look forward to psych fest! read more

A cool little place that is randomly in a seemingly deserted area (although it's really not). I came here for an event and was surprised at how adorable this place is. It feels like someone turned a summer camp cabin into a bar and put a staged the back where you can put on wacky talent shows. Or something to that effect. Staff was nice and he bar is decent. There are enough tables to chill with other people. It felt very warm and home-y being there and just gives off an overall chill vibe. I've only been here once, so I don't know how The Hideout is on other nights, but from what I experienced I enjoyed my time here. read more

Programming: Fabulous! Puppet shows, block parties, and home of the most populist dance night in Chicago. The music isn't (usually) uber trendy and neither is the dancing, meaning that no one will care if you're a less than perfect dancer. Sometimes I look like I'm jumping when I'm really dancing, but nobody cares at The Hideout. I tend to go for the dance nights, but the kitschy and quaint atmosphere is enough of a reason to bike over to Elston. The Hideout makes its home squished in between warehouses and a Home Depot off of Elston, in an area of town in between "the Parks" - Lincoln and Wicker, that is - so biking is probably your best transportation option during the summer months. Make sure that you bring your purse or wallet because there will more than likely be a cover. read more

Masks were required when not drinking indoors but nobody was following the rules. Tim the owner approached me whilst I was waiting to place an order, beginning with the classics, 'you cum here often?', 'where are you from?'. Offered him a standard 'go kick rocks' response like hey I'm just up the road, I'm here because I was invited here. No dialogue was given back, just questions. I close out my tab, buy a CD at the merch table, and wait for the inevitable as I walk outside and chat up one of the barkeeps. Visiting Chicago and want to have a Chicago-specific experience that doesn't involve standing outside in the bitter cold looking at a metallic bean surrounded by hoards of people? This is your place. Tickets were HELLA cheap. Drinks were also HELLA cheap. My friend lives in NYC and she was baffled for the entire night about a $4 drink. The bands were INCREDIBLY TALENTED and I'm honestly surprised we paid so little for that quality of entertainment. The dance-party after the bands played was just honestly really really really really REALLY weird. So my friend and I ended up hanging out at the bar talking to some locals. This place gave us great entertainment and a fun story to look back on when we think about our visit to Chicago. This place is great and I would be here all the time if I were a local. read more

Would give zero stars if I could. After checking vaccination card and ID, I walk to bar fo order a drink. After ordering, I goto take a sip and the bartender tells me to put my mask on. You're not allowed to drink your drinks at the bar. (Mind blowing) I said whatever and walked to the room you're apparently allowed to drink your drinks. As I'm standing there to lower my mask to take a sip, a worker walks by and asks if I'm good in a condescending tone because my mask wasn't on. The entire staff treated you like you were attempting to burn down the building if you removed your mask at any point. I understand business's are trying to keep customers safe, but if you're not gonna let people drink their drinks they bought, what's the point? Staff was beyond rude and I'll never be back. Woo! This place is sweet. Concerts here are awesome. The stage area is a bit narrow, but it has a great feel and you get to be up close and personal with the band you came to see. If it's your first time here, you'll realize why its name is appropriate even before you arrive. It's literally tucked away at the end of an L-shaped street. You wouldn't even think there'd be a place like this there from its surroundings, but just keep going and It'll be there. Parking can be a bit sparse, so getting there a bit early can make things easier. Also, I have to mention that the waitress working the room was ridiculously attractive. /wolf whistle 5-stars for that. However, I have to take one star away because there are too many people there that looked like they prepared for 3 hours before to look just right. You know what I mean; they have to achieve a certain look. It's like the guy with straight-out-of-bed hair, but he took 50 minutes using product to place each, individual hair in just the perfect place. Why can't people just throw on a t-shirt and go.
