We Visited Slippery Slope For A Birthday Party With A Large Group Of 15 People. The Night Started Off Great--Security Was Kind And Welcoming, Which Made A Good First Impression. However, Our Experience Quickly Turned Sour Due To The Behavior Of One Staff Member, Ashley, The Bartender. Out Of Our Party Of 15, One Person Had A Drink From Emporium, Which They Mistakenly Brought In After We Had Already Ordered Multiple Rounds From The Bar. Instead Of Addressing The Situation Calmly Or Discreetly, Ashley Came To Our Table And Aggressively Grabbed The Drink Out Of The Person's Hand, Loudly Stating, "We Don't Sell This, And You're Lucky I Don't Kick You Out For Having It!" We Completely Understand And Respect Policies About Outside Drinks. However, The Way Ashley Handled The Situation Was Absolutely Unprofessional And Unnecessarily Confrontational, Especially Considering How Much Our Party Had Been Ordering All Night. Her Actions Were Rude And Disrespectful To A Group That Had Come To Celebrate And Spend Money At The Venue. We've Spent Many Nights At Slippery Slope In The Past, But This Experience Left Such A Bad Impression That None Of Us Plan To Return. I Can Only Hope Ashley Has Some Personal Stake In This Business To Justify Treating Customers This Way--And That She's Paid Well For It--Because Her Behavior Just Cost The Bar 15 Loyal Patrons. read more

The bar's security and staff told me multiple times that they didn't care about my safety and that it "wasn't their problem." This bar creates a very unsafe environment, especially for young women. I was roofied here last night and became extremely dizzy after a single vodka cran. After paying for coat check, they failed to give me a ticket and then refused to return my jacket and bag even though my keys were inside. It was 9 degrees outside, yet they were willing to send women out into the cold without their belongings. I showed a photo ID that matched the ID in my purse, so "security concerns" were clearly not the issue. The security staff explicitly told me they didn't care about the safety risk they were creating. The only reason I eventually got my belongings back was because the police arrived for an unrelated situation, at which point the staff suddenly changed their tune. This level of negligence is how tragedies happen. It genuinely did not feel safe to be here. read more

Drinks are great and it's a good time but it def is an unsafe place to be. I was there when the lights were turned on and they pulled a gun off somebody. Police have rushed inside because they don't seem to have enough security staff to keep the place safe. My bestie is in town from LA and we decided to check out this spot for dancing and it was so much fun! The service was actually quick for a bar, we got taken care of by a hot tatted up baddie on the second floor. There was no food on the menu, which imo is the only thing lacking. Also great prices on drinks we paid $15 for 2 tequila shots. Still a great spot! Hadn't gone to this place in so many years but just revisited and I love that upstairs vibe! The bar is super cool, much busier than downstairs but both areas offer a different vibe. Think mid-century modern upstairs, you are having drinks in Don Draper's office. Great lighting, good cocktails, plenty of seating to hang out and chill. I remember the music being pretty good there too! I feel like it's a good spot to hang with friends or bring a date or both. Totally unassuming when you get in there. The downstairs is moody, pre made cocktails, black with red lights. Upstairs is as mentioned above, better cocktails. This is now my new favorite place to dance downtown! A TikTok shared on Instagram caught the eye of my gal pal and I, and we were pretty excited to see what the hype was about. Let me tell you, we were not disappointed! The bar is pretty spacious with several areas to either play skiball, mingle near the bar, or enjoy the dance floor. We grabbed some mixed drinks and were elated to see they were $8 a piece (unheard of in downtown Chicago!). The music was good not greats at first as it was only 10:30, but shortly after the DJ really let loose. Throwbacks everyone knew were played back to back and every person on the dance floor seemed to be having the time of their life (myself included). The best part? There were 2 taco trucks open late outside so we definitely hit those up after burning calories from dancing. When I asked to speak to a manager for information on who to contact after (and simply an apology), Joe (GM) approached with a hostile attitude as if it was a disservice to be speaking to me. ***warning, this place will misplace your card*** This place lost my card or gave it to the wrong person and then assumed no responsibility. I ordered drinks asked to close out. They did not give me a check. They did not return my card. Saturday night I get it's busy, but when I asked for my card again, they claimed they gave it back to me. I explained I didn't sign anything, I received no receipt. No trace of it except for the charge which showed up on my account. They took no accountability and the person who misplaced it avoided eye contact and me in general so I had to deal with other staff. They tried gaslighting me trying to tell me they handed it back when I keep explaining they never handed me anything, I never got it back, I never closed. Make sure you close out immediately and keep your eye on bartenders to return the card back to the appropriate person because according to the bartenders it's our responsibility to make sure they do their job. read more

I was shocked by the bouncer at this bar. I've been to clubs in NYC, SF, LA and Chicago and this was the worst bouncer experience I've encountered on the night of 6/2/23. We waited in line for about 30 minutes, and the bouncer grabbed my ID (which was OK, I was handing it to him). He then reviewed and then handed it back to me, so I took my ID back, and as I turned the corner to enter, the bouncer stopped me and yelled in my face: "If you ever snatch your ID out of my hand like that again, you'll never be allowed back in this bar. You hear me??" I said "I understand" to avoid confrontation, but I didn't understand. I was shocked. Thankfully, my friends witnessed the bouncer in my face screaming at me and they were equally disturbed. We decided to leave and took our business to a bar around the corner. I personally will never return to Slippery Slope. I've seen several other reviews mentioning an aggressive bouncer, and I am still shocked by the encounter. No matter the situation, Slippery Slope is employing at least one aggressive staff member and I do not recommend frequenting this bar. You could be assaulted by a staff member for simply taking your own ID when they hand it to you. On a side note, I wasn't going to pull the gay card, but, I'm gay. And some of my friends who witnessed the aggressive bouncer think he did it because he's homophobic. I'm not sure that was the case, but it's worth mentioning. If you're a member of the LGBTQ+ community (or an ally), I cannot safely recommend Slippery Slope. read more

This place is super fun! There was Xmas decor galore on the ground floor when we walked in. And then you go upstairs and it's a cute little classier/sit down type of bar. My friends and I got here quite early, around 9pm, so no line! We ended up sitting at a table upstairs. Their cocktails are pretty sweet, I had the Dark Star the whole night. Get the special shots!! Whatever is in it, yummm (will mess you up but who cares)! Then around 10-10.30, live DJ starts downstairs for the dance floor. Music is great, the dance floor fills up so quickly! You know this is a popular spot (twas my 1st time!). I ordered a margarita when I was downstairs and it came in what looks like a hot sauce bottle haha very quirky and tasted weird...like a highly concentrated marg? Anyways, I had fun! Will come back. Ahhh, slippery slope. The late-night dance floor you never knew you needed. This is a swanky, spunky, sweaty bar on Milwaukee with awesome red-light vibes, relatively cheap drinks and a super fun crowd. Expect to wait in a line on weekend nights after 11, because the place is poppin! They always have excellent DJs at slip slope, so the dance floor is usually PACKED- so much so that it can sometimes be difficult to access the bathrooms or the photo booths... but HEY, dance your way there! The mixed drinks I've tried have all been good and only $6- yes, please. The bartenders are always kind and attentive, even when it's really crowded! If you're feeling overwhelmed by the masses, check out the upstairs bar. It's much more mature and almost intimate with small tables and cool leather chairs all around the bar- would definitely go there to hang out earlier in the night. I honestly need to put this place on blast for their disgusting behavior. My bf was dancing with our group of friends, and a staff who appear and behaved unprofessional, shoulder checks my partner aggressively for no reason, with there being enough space around him anyway to move around. We were not bothering anyone to our knowledge and weren't approached yet he very quickly berates my bf and threatens to get 'his guys'. My partner just looks at him, laughs and turns away because we had no idea he was security since he didn't appear so or talk like one. My bf wasn't asked to leave or anything like that but seconds later four/five other security guards were around him and immediately grabbed him and started shoving him. They yelled take him to the back into the establishment and he was resisting being pushed and saying He wants to be let out the front, but they're too busy aggressively handling him. As this is happening.. one of the staff members was recording and laughing shining a light on and off in his face, Me and my friends follow them as they shove him out into the alley. Following im still in the back room and I begin too ask them to give me a reason on why they reacted so aggressively to my bf simply for not moving out of the way and someone literally grabbed me by my arm and threw me out. The doors were slammed on our faces. We did not deserve that and it was unprofessional. I'm glad my friends and I followed him to the back bc we have no idea what they would've done to him if it was only him! My friend who stayed inside was discussing with other witnesses and they all agreed that nothing was happening and nothing needed that reaction. Everyone was confused and shocked. I'm inclined to believe the immediate aggression and escalation was racially motivated, my bf did not instigate or escalate he simply didn't move over for the unprofessional staff member bumping against him with plenty of space to move around. Definitely recommend if you are looking for a fun night out drinking and dancing! The bartenders were very friendly and quick with getting us our drinks. I also believe drinks here are reasonably priced compared to bars in river north! The dance floor is small and does get pretty crowded on weekends around 11pm, so it's difficult to move around. Also getting to the restroom is a task since you have to walk through the dance floor. But regardless I think going here with the right people can be a blast! Might be the first time I've actually checked out the night life in Logan Square but I overall I got mixed feelings on Slippery Slope. Ironically I guess the name is somewhat fitting to the experience you'll have... let's do this! There's essentially two bars here. One on the main level, a bit grungier and dive bar sort of feeling. Some random skeeball machines, a dance floor with a dj spinning some fire throwbacks and current hits, booth seating which seemed to be first come first serve. The second bar is upstairs. Definitely classier feeling and had almost a tiki room feeling to it. Low lit, booth seats, pretty quick service at the bar top, definitely way less rowdy than downstairs. We ended up drinking up here and had a few rounds. Their cocktails are actually pretty good and everything is $10. Sweet! Not sure how to formulate the rest of this review so I'll just break it down into points that slippery slope to left me to remember by... The Good: -line looked long from outside, but didn't take more than 10 minutes to get in -no cover charge to get in -takes credit cards -$10 cocktails at the bar upstairs -excellent music selection both upstairs and downstairs -upstairs bar is def more low key and less crowded The Bad: -pushy crowd on the dance floor kinda killed my vibe -a bit overcrowded at times so if you're not feeling the shoulder to shoulder and people rubbing on you maybe not a spot for you Honestly, I'd probably be a fan on this spot had I not gotten bumped and pushed around on the dance floor when I was just tryna get my groove on. What a hidden gem! My sister in law kept mentioning this place when we began bar hopping and I am so glad we stopped in. When you walk in, it's very dark but decorative stringy lights are lit up literally EVERYWHERE. To your immediate right there are 3 lanes of ski ball (at a dollar a pop, and the middle one will give you two games per collar, just an FYI and the 4,000 hole doesn't work, so you need to add it up yourself) Great drink options, dance floor and just great vibes all around. I've had this place bookmarked for the longest time. Affordable drinks, open dance floor, no EDM music? Count me in! I came here last weekend with a couple of friends. Although it took us a while to get in, I can see that it really was packed inside. I understand the red lighting but it's so dark by the bathrooms, you can't tell if they're occupied or just locked. The dance floor is very tight but I like the music because it isn't all EDM. Overall, I am a fan. This place was better than I expected it to be...it was actually pretty awesome! The DJ kicked ass playing some classic joints all nite that got the dance floor rocking around 11PM on a warm Friday evening. I mean you could hardly move through the crowd. The only issue is that you have to go through the dance floor to get to the bathrooms and when the floor gets rocking, it aint easy. There is a skiable game right when you walk in the door that everyone likes to have their turn playing. In terms of drinks, I started out with an old fashioned. It came in a smaller glass than what I am used to...I had to check all of my friends glasses to make sure the bartender wasn't fucking with me. I then noticed they had small bottles of mixed drinks that came with a straw...I thought it looked really cool so I had about 3 more of them. The drink that included scotch was awesome as it got me where I wanted to be in terms of mental mind state. This spot is pretty damn cool and a more than welcomed addition to Logan Square. Logan Square is now home to a trendy, dance-oriented bar where the guys leave the flannel at home (for the most part) and the ladies show off their finer clothes as well as their sleeve tattoos. I was here on a Saturday night and got in around 9:30 with no line, although there was definitely a line as the night went on. Plenty of people have commented on their bottle cocktails, and I enjoyed both their Manhattan and their daiquiri (not too sweet). Some people have also complained about the prices, but they sell a draft Hamm's for $2, so I'm not sure how much better you can do unless you buy your PBR by the case and drink it at home... The DJ did a good job of mixing newer songs (no top 40 but newer recognizable stuff) along with modern classics from Michael Jackson forward. So if you find yourself in Logan Square and have the urge to dance and have a well-made cocktail, you could do far worse than head to the Slippery Slope. read more

So, before I even got here, my friend who was with me checked his phone and said, "We're going to Slippery slope. It's going suck." Not the best endorsement but we went there anyway because a friend of his was DJing there. We got in pretty quickly even though it was around the holidays but still not that hard to get to the bar. Hey! this place may not be so bad after all. I think there's a reason why there wasn't too long of a line at the bar. The female bartender may have been unhappy when she had to work near a holiday evening but it seemed like she was nothing but an attitude generator and then when people called her on it she played like she was the victim. When my friend went up to order a round of drinks she literally asked if he could afford it. Seriously, what? After that the only thing that kept us there was that his friend was still spinning. While visiting this dive bar Surly was a mistake on our vacation to Chicago. Receiving nothing but probably the worse service anyone can imagine. The moment we were directed to the upstairs bar it was closing. Which isn't a problem as it was nice to see the upstairs area, probably only open on the weekends. The problem was how they told us it was closed.... with two... I repeat 2! Middle fingers. . As shocking as that is, the management seem to care just as little as the staff which I shouldn't be surprised as you lead by example. Not sure whether the owners are ex-lawyers, but I like the name. So I went to Slippery Slope on a cold Thursday night. As I walked up, I of course had to take a picture of the red neon sign. When I walked inside, I was greeted by red lights that radiate heat. I have to say the lights didn't keep me that warm, but they did make me want to sing Roxanne. The walls are covered in kitschy wall hangings, and they have skee ball. Yes you read right skee ball, but there are no people in giant mouse costumes wishing you a happy birthday. They also have a full bar, but just for fun you should try the house-made pre-bottled cocktails served in salvaged hot sauce bottles. I had the peach vodka one, which was good and not too sweet. This place is slightly weird, but not half bad. I'd like to go back in the summer and see whether they switch out the light bulbs. read more
