I visited Schull to work on my novel and I couldn't have chosen a better place to stay…read more Firstly, the house is gorgeous. The bedrooms are huge and beautifully furnished, complete with comfortable beds and writing desks. Each room is named after a writer - and each one has its own quirks and benefits. The Carberry offers wonderful light for writing and has the added benefit of a bath, while the Ross gives you pretty views over the harbour. Breakfast is between 8am and 10am, but if you're working on a project, Katarina will make a late breakfast for you; anything from scrambled eggs and bacon to a full Irish. It seems nothing is too much bother - Katarina's whole philosophy is to make your stay as comfortable as possible. The house is a short stroll from the local bars and restaurants - though Katarina will set you up with a healthy and filling evening meal for just €10 a night. You can opt to eat in the dining room or in the living room in front of a blazing fire. Check out the wine list too - there are some pretty tasty choices available. If you want to explore the local area, there are plenty of walks nearby - I'd recommend visiting Sailor's Hill. See if you can meet Cornelius Griffin and get the story of the metal cross and the watch tower. If you've got a car, there are plenty of villages or beaches to explore. The true beauty of Grove House is that it really is a home away from home, without the interruptions! It's the perfect base for a week or weekend away. I managed to redraft half of my novel while staying here, thanks to the lovely surroundings, relaxing atmosphere and thoughtful service. If you intend to visit this region, make sure you stay here.

I was welcomed with a lovely chat over tea and a scone by the innkeeper Rosaleen O'Leary! I really appreciated her taking time to get to know me and share her thoughts on Irish history and culture. My room was good sized, appealing and a great value. Showers were hot with good water pressure. The gardens on the property were just gorgeous - imagine Secret Garden type plantings. My stay included a complete hot Irish breakfast with lots of coffee, eggs and Irish bacon - similar to a fried ham. Mmmm. I enjoyed a morning walk down the road to Ross Castle, which I highly recommend. Who knew the advancements in medieval architecture and defense? Ross Castle Lodge B&B is adjacent to the Killarney National Park, and one may walk through the park to get to the 'town' of Killarney where you'll find lots of restaurants, pubs & shops. Booking was easy via email. Walkable distance to town and the train station - but a cab is easier for arrivals! They gave us great recommendations and also drove us to the bus station when we had to leave. Killarney was amazing! It was our favorite city in Ireland and we would love to go back. Plenty to do in the city with unique shops and restaurants. I would recommend renting bikes and riding into the national park.

Our servers were very friendly and helpful. The food was absolutely superb. The fish tasting starter with 6 different fish to sample was excellent. The black sole on bone was among the best fish dishes I've enjoyed. The other entree-brill and swordfish was very good. The grill was lightly fried and tasty, the swordfish was cooked enough but not dry. The vegetables and potatoes that accompanied the fish were well prepared and tasty. We didn't have room for dessert. I ordered the microbrewery flight and received 4 to try. The lighter beers were better in my opinion, though I usually prefer dark beer or stout. There are other highly rated restaurants in Baltimore, we didn't try any of those. In my opinion, you will likely be very satisfied at Casey's.

What a gem of a spot. The staff were super friendly and helpful. In fact, they could not do enough for us. Even though they are on the outskirts of town, it's an easy 10 minute walk or less to the pubs and restaurants in Baltimore. They also have tons of information and flyers regarding various things to do in the area. Lots of trails & water activities. Casey's is a great spot & I will definitely stay here again should I be in West Cork.
