Yet another lovely stay at Klondyke House. The location is perfect along the Ring of Kerry, near…read morethe sea, surrounded by mountains and rolling green Irish countryside. This is a magical place to visit, truly enchanting. The hosts always take care of us well. They know everything about the area, having spent most of their lives in Waterville, and Cahersiveen (larger town just down the road). The Waterville Golf Links - a world class golf course - is located within minutes by car. Excellent seafood restaurants are nearby, either by car or on foot. The Waterville Craft Market is located right next door. Also nearby, the Tech Amergin Arts Centre offers all sorts of interesting classes, workshops, art exhibits, as well as amusing Irish film nights we enjoyed viewing during our stay. Lastly, behind the B&B, they have a lovely modern vacation rental property that is available to rent by the week. Having stayed in the B&B, and the vacation rental, I highly recommend both. My only complaint: I can't stay here long enough!

Prior to staying at Klondyke House, I would have been very hesitant to lodge in a B&B. I always…read morefigured that they don't offer the facilities and comfort of a hotel, and the whole "staying in someone's home" vibe was something of a turn off. Klondyke house completely changed my perceptions of this. Our room was of the standard of many hotels I've stayed in, very modern and clean. It also had a lovely bathroom (which appeared to be brand new, or else very well maintained), with a very nice, powerful shower (I like a good shower). Everything you'd expect in a hotel -- kit for making tea and coffee, hairdryer, good TV, free and fast Wifi -- it was all there. Noise does seem to travel between rooms in this house, but the other guests were very quiet. I would worry about the noise levels had there been any louder guests. The proprietors were nice and friendly, but not at all overbearing. They made polite conversation without annoying you (I'm not really a people person when on holiday, and am always wary of B&Bs because I'm worried of the hosts being up in your business). The breakfast is beautiful! A very good selection, and the soda bread is a highlight (bacon and salmon are also very good). I do prefer the buffet style of hotels, because I like to try a bit of everything when on holidays, but I appreciate this mightn't be feasible in a B&B. Maybe the hosts could encourage guests to order more than one thing from the breakfast menu? But that's a tiny gripe, the food and service were both wonderful. The property is a five minute walk into the heart of the village. There isn't a huge amount to do in Waterville itself, but it's at the centre of a beautiful part of Ireland, so there's a plenty of attractions in the vicinity. If staying for a week or so, a car would be handy for seeing the sights, but for a weekend, all you need is to make your way to the pubs for the great seafood. A highly enjoyable weekend, and the Klondyke B&B played a large part in that. I would recommend it to anyone.

Let's talk about Westcove House…read more It's ridiculous. It's magical. It's idyllic. It's one of the happiest places on earth. The grounds include the 18th century main house, the garden cottage, the stables, and pier cottage. The land encompasses expansive lawns and lanes, an inlet, and Westcove Harbour. Friendly goats and sheep roam the the property, and adorable seals swim and bark in the harbor. Accommodations are appointed absolutely beautifully here. The main house bedrooms are decorated with period furniture and antiques that evoke 1700s Irish manor house, and the downstairs dining and sitting rooms, as well as the bar and loft area, are a mixture of modern and antique. The house is just lovely and so comfortable. A partially sunken sitting room houses a fireplace perfect for those incredible-smelling peat fires in cooler weather, and the bar area includes a fireplace as well. The stables, garden cottage and pier cottage are all outfitted in more modern decor; the stables include a large, bright, airy game room with darts, table tennis, foosball. On one of our visits, the hosts (whose cousin, Susannah Adlington owns Westcove) threw a traditional Irish ceilidh in the gameroom with a live musicians playing jigs and reels! Adding to the amazing experience of staying awhile at Westcove House is the food. Breakfast and dinner are prepared by the wonderful, friendly staff at Westcove, Katherine and Bernie (there's also the lovable Michael, the groundsman). The food is delicious and beautifully presented, family style, in the formal dining room. One year we were here for Thanksgiving -- Katherine and Bernie, obviously never having celebrated American Thanksgiving before -- did meticulous research about traditional Thanksgiving foods and prepared a spread that outdid any I've seen before! The attention to detail at Westcove House is impeccable. Westcove's location right on the Ring of Kerry makes it a perfect base for exploring southern Ireland. Cork, Shannon, Bunratty or Blarney Castle, the Skelligs, Kenmare, Cobh, the Cliffs of Moher, Waterford, Killarney Forest are all potential day trips. We've *loved* our stays at Westcove. They've been some of the best and most memorable vacations we've had. There's no better place in the British Isles.

Just gorgeous to wake up every morning and have coffee outside while taking in the beautiful bay and go for a late night (albeit cold) swim right outside your door! My other family members stayed in the other guest houses and the main house and EVERYONE was thrilled with the accommodations. The Stables is great for families, with a game room and big lawn in front for playing. The food was always delicious. How wonderful to have Jane's Bakery literally right next door so you could have fresh pastries in the morning and grab some lamb guinness pies (mmm!!) for dinner. Everything is high tech with wifi in all the houses and great kitchen equipment. Amazing sites nearby like Derryname Beach and Staigue Fort and also great day-trip accessibility to other cool destinations like Castle Donovan or The Skelligs. HIGHLY recommend this place and will DEFINITELY be returning!

The rooms are modern and nice and bright. Hot coffee/tea and bottled water in your room and a full bathroom with good water pressure and nice temperature shower. Bedroom was large and had lots of storage for your stuff. Even a wall safe if you felt necessary. Free WiFi worked well too, and free parking out front. The included breakfast was made to order eggs or pancakes and/or full Irish breakfast with sausages bacon and puddings if you desire. I enjoyed the eggs, tomato, and beans and all the brown bread, cereals and fruits I needed. Plus tea and juice. Mary was a delight and super friendly with advice. I would gladly stay here again if we are in the area. Glad I got a referral from the Mooring hotel who were fully booked.

It had a queen size bed and a water cooker. No TV, but it's own bathroom and free (albeit slow) WiFi. Furniture was modern cottage style and the room was painted in friendly lavender colors. For breakfast there was a wide variety available, from full Irish over pancakes to kiplings. The owners, Mary and Jim, were very friendly and even helped organizing a trip to the Skelligs. The room was 60 EUR including breakfast for the two of us. No Credit Cards accepted.
