Even though the space is small, the exhibits are well designed, topically arranged, and easy to read and understand. The collections are pretty extensive as well. I especially appreciate how well they handled some socially & historically challenging parts of human behavior during the time periods covered. Instead of sanitizing and whitewashing how people treated one another, this museum acknowledged our past without shame, blame, or condemnation--it was limited to the statements of events. Can't say enough good things about this place. Everyone needs to check this out.

My partner and I did the self-guided tour and immensely enjoyed ourselves, being able to move and read everything at our own pace. It was so amazing to learn about the local history in this way! Beyond the museum itself, which rotates shows/exhibitions regularly, the Hockaday Museum of Art is at the forefront of the art world in the Glacier Park, western, Montana history and contemporary art scene, here in Montana. They host: Arts in The Park, Plein air Glacier, artists retreats and a variety of youth art classes, to name a few. Along with their extensive list of contemporary artists who show their work at the Museum, they have a very impressive permanent collection. (Check their website or social media for exhibition dates and scheduled events). Better yet, stop-in and meet their welcoming and knowledgeable staff.
