We were able to make it in our second attempt. Unfortunately, the first time we tried was when there was that mass shooting in Odessa/Midland and everything shut down. We were determined to give this place our business and we were not disappointed. Great selection of cigars and had some beer. The coffee was good as well. The outdoor patio was fantastic because I don't smoke but my husband does....so it was nice to have that fresh air for me. It was not super busy when we arrived but became busier as we stayed. The parking is tight, as there are other businesses nearby. The service inside for drinks is very slow, but if you sit outside the servers grab everything really fast. I'm not sure how to make this a better cigar lounge - maybe more leather chairs. Indoor and outdoor seating. Beer n wine bar, but you can bring liquor in for small set up fee. Small stage for a singer they have a few nights a week. Nice selection of better cigars. Just a really nice place. Again, went in for beer n cigar. And to get out of the heat. Super great service. My family and I use to love this place. But this past Friday I felt targeted. Went on Friday when they were serving alcohol and having a live band. My husband and my father went in to buy alcohol and cigars. I was sitting with my mother when the "general manager" came out and asked only for my ID. I mistakenly left my wallet at the house and told her I was not drinking or smoking. But continued to hassle me saying I couldn't be on the premises saying that it was TBAC policy and I asked if they would take a picture and she declined. Went all the way home got my wallet . I had to call the GM back to the table and asked her if she carded everyone. And she stated that she only carded people under 30. I was confused as I was the only one carded when there were other people that were under 30. I am well over 21. NOTED: my husband is two years younger than me. My husband was never carded when he purchased liquor or cigars. I then proceeded to give her my miltary ID and she didn't not bother to flip my ID and check my birthday. The GM kept repeating and repeating I'm the general manager this is my establishment very rudely to me. I understand that, but she never looked at my birthday on my ID or carded my younger husband ever. Therefore, this clearly felt targeted. Stopped in early in the day, so I did not get a sense for the crowd, but the staff and the venue are both perfect for a social smoker. They had a good selection of premium cigars and accessories. The Hemingway is has several separate areas so you can hang with a group or just chat with a friend. They have a full bar, but it was early so they made me a pot of coffee. This place is perfect for an afternoon happy hour when the weather is nice. The outside is great for socializing, and it is very relaxing environment. I usually go here in the spring or fall when the weather isn't as intense. I have to sit outside because the inside smells so heavily of smoke. They sell cigars, so it makes sense. But the smell is absolutely nauseating to me and many of my friends. They have a good selection of wine, so it's perfect for date night with your partner or friend. The Hemingway is one of the few places in Midland that hasn't been taken over by the beer pong playing, multiple shot taking crowd. If you are looking for a quite place to talk to your friends and to enjoy a good quality beer or wine, Hemingway could be for you. It is an intimate little establishment that carries an extensive wine by the glass list. The import beer selections seems to be decent and they have premium cigars. Due to the cigar bar nature, most people won't be comfortable sitting inside, so this is really a place to go to when it is temperate enough to sit on the shaded patio. It is usually comfortable in the summer once the sun has set, and in the winter they have outdoor heaters. I love spending a cold winter evening under the heater with a glass of red. A huge bonus is that they are a stones throw from Garlic Press. They can give you a dinner menu and will deliver the food to you while you are having drinks at Hemingway. Now that is service! I love this place. My mom and stepdad were in town and we decided to go here after we went to Cigar Frog's. Both of these place are fantastic. We just stopped in for a quick beer and a smoke for Bob. He loved it. Good selection of beer and cigars. Found out that the restaurant next door will come and serve you if you sit outside. I thought this was a great idea. Haven't tried it out, but it seemed like a nice idea. We had a good relaxing atmosphere and it wasn't too overpowering as far as the smell or smoke. Had a great evening at Hemingway last night. First time for my date and he really enjoyed himself!! Nice ambiance with great live music. Very chill crowd. Superb attendant! Love this place. They always have good music. When it's cold they have blankets and heaters for the patio. The bands they book are usually very enjoyable. My only negative is that I wish it had more tables! read more
