Katarina did a thorough exam and to my surprise put in a demo hearing aid at the end of my exam that enabled me to hear all the sounds I had been missing all these years! How could that be? Well, I looked into it and Katarina is an audiologist while the person I saw (twice) at the other place is a Hearing Instrument Practioner (HIP). Most customers may be well served by a HIP but for those of us with a bit more complicated situation, an audiologist like Dr Katarina is needed. Of course she can help those with more common hearing issues too. Within a week or two after my assessment I got my own customized hearing aid. Over a series of complementary appointments Katarina slowly increased the volume of the hearing aid and showed me how to care for it. Right from day one it felt comfortable to the point I forget I am wearing anything - no problems at all. I found Katarina to be very professional, kind and personable. Her competence is obvious as soon as you meet her. She told me her oldest patient is 102 (!) and her youngest is in her early teens. Her new office is bright and attractive. The location is convenient and comes with easy, free parking under the building or on surrounding streets.

I am lost and deaf without them. I was at Wood & Frog yesterday and right next door was the Tsawwassen Hearing Centre. I sat there trying to mentally calculate how much this repair was going to cost. $500? $1000? I come from California where nothing is free except for insults. So I sucked it up and went in. They have a lovely, welcoming space with coffee and tea. The nice lady who helped me (and whose name I've forgotten because I'm old) offered to take a look at them, as opposed to sending them off for repairs. Fifteen minutes later and my hearings aids were as good as new! 15 minutes! Annnd ... it was free! I thought it was a trick. Maybe "free" and please sign up for our mailing list we'll send you six times a day free. Nope. Just free, no strings attached. I shall return.

However, the UBC MS clinic has been sending reports to this office for years... but no one told me that I was not a patient there any longer. Imagine my surprise when I was repeatedly told by the receptionist that " you are not a patient here and you better find yourself a GP, I learned this when I called needing a referral for a test booked at UBC hospital. If I am not a patient do they get paid to keep my records? Why would they keep accepting reports from a neurologist for a patient with a disease that was no longer their client.
