I opted for lasagne which was served with salad and chips. It almost reminded me of a school lunch in that it was comforting. Hubby's burger was well seasoned and quite tasty! Dessert was homemade profiteroles in chocolate sauce. It was tasty but didn't rock the tastebuds. It's a little out the way from Glasgow as it's just outside of Kilwinning. However there's a good sized car park and the staff are simply lovely. Great value for money in that we both had 3 courses and a few non alcoholic drinks for the grand total of £25. Easy to find, just off the promenade (10 minute nice walk to the centre of Largs). Easy parking and check in process (starts at 2pm). I had a single room which was more than enough. Nice and cozy with a tv, shower/loo and a nice window view. There's a nice restaurant and bar with plenty to drink. If it's sunny the garden looks lovely but I didn't get a break in the weather to test that out. Breakfast was fantastic, has a nice little buffet of cereal, yogurt and fruit. I opted for the cooked breakfast which came out quickly and perfectly cooked. You can add black pudding, haggis or mushrooms. And of course tea/coffee. I'm struggling to offer an improvement,.it really was great..maybe the only tiny one was the bed in room 8 was really squeaky, could probably do with a tightening..:) easy fix. Thank for having me!

the location of this hotel is brilliant . it has a sea view and it is really close to the lil ferry…read morethat takes you to the isle of great cumbrae - millport! and it is adjacent to nardini's which is always a plus :) we stayed for two nights here and our stay was good but not the greatest, as they had a wedding the first night we were there and the wedding guests were very loud once they were in their rooms! one other thing we had a baby with us and they gave us a second floor room and no elevator plus it was a long trip to the room. it was a nice room though a large bed a sea view and a baby cot :) the last downer was the breakfast , I am a breakfast person and i like to have a good selection i was so disappointed with what they had :S nevertheless, i totally recommend it for its location and comfy bed

By the time we had arrived at Cairnryan Port Scotland it was very dark, but we decided to start driving the 200 mile trek from Cairnryan Port on the A77 roadway to Lochness Lake located approx (200) miles away. Being so very tired, and struggling to drive any further, we began looking for places to rest on the long dark roads around Ballantrae, this is when we stumbled upon the King Arms Hotel. The King Arms staff booked us in late without any trouble, were very polite and offered us a late night dinner and drinks. We ended up playing pool in the pub area, having drinks, and speaking to the locals in the pub about the history of the area. In the morning, in the dining room area, they had a very nice breakfast prepared for us to sustain us on our journey, the atmosphere was amazingly family like. It was a very unexpected and pleasant stop on our journey into Scotland! If you walk to the west of the main parking lot, there is a small trail which will lead you through a large grassy soccer field, this trail will take you to the shore of Ballantrae Bay, the trail is approximately 700 feet in length. The view in the morning hours was amazing!!!!! Definitely Recommend!

This is a review of the Kingarth Pub as opposed to the hotel which I've not stayed…read moreat....anyway.....I'd like to say that The Kingarth Hotel does Scotland proud. I mean that 100%. This is real Scottish style country cooking. Homemade grub that isn't fancy or pretentious but hearty, honest and just so darn delicious. I've eaten here on a couple of occasions and each time our party has been blown away with the quality of the food, the epic portion sizes and fantastic value for money. The focus of the food is around the daily specials, which shows just how fresh the food is. Although there is a standard menu, most of the dishes served will be from the large blackboard above the fireplace. So go and seek this out before ordering. I know I may seem to be going overboard here, considering it is just a simple pub serving traditional fare, but I feel like we are getting served up more gastropub type food in our pubs nowadays or just simply cheap frozen stuff. I love The Kingarth because its seems to be clinging to tradition! Staff are very welcoming and friendly, there is a decent ale selection and also a pool table, which probably makes this the best pub on the island. If your in the area cycling, walking or sight seeing then this place has to be on your to-do list for lunch or dinner.

There is a modernised but not antiseptic bar and a very comfortable residents' lounge. Service throughout was excellent. It is not cheap, but good value for money if you want to push the boat out a bit for a special break away.
