Went here to celebrate the in-laws wedding anniversary. It's a very nice place. We had booked a table for a Sunday afternoon. The place was quite busy and the service was slow. In the middle of the Ayrshire countryside, this is a really nice play to go for a fancy meal if you're in the area, and is a great place to go if you want to show off the Scottish coast to visitors. I've only ever been here for lunch, and as it's close to my work it's our go-to place for wining and dining visitors. The main room has amazing views of the coast (if the weather is on your side), and you really do feel like you're part of the countryside. The room itself is pretty comfortable, and the staff are nice and friendly. It has a certain formal feel to it, but nothing too serious that you feel like you have to make an effort and be on your best behaviour. This, coupled with the menu and the clientele (it always seems to favour the retired crowd) gives it all a fancy members club feel. When asked about the food I described it as "good quality old persons fancy food", which was meant a a compliment. It's traditional dishes done well, from good fish dishes like whole sole, good quality steak pies and chicken breasts in creamy sauces. Portions are generous, and if you're in a bigger table you get a couple of side plates with veg an chips (and they were good chips!) - all very traditional. And while it isn't doing anything wildly adventurous there isn't anything wrong with doing the classics and doing them well. Personally, I'd like them to throw something new into the menu to justify the 5th star, but if you like good quality food in a nice setting then it's worth a visit. There is a 2 course lunch menu at £12.50 which is well worth a try. And the view is fantastic. read more

I was given Costleys vouchers for my birthday last year and since today was the first clear, crisp day we've had in a lonnnnng time I decided to use them here. The views here are totally stunning, particularly on such a clear day! They have an outdoor seating area (currently being refurbed) that would be gorgeous on a sunny day. Inside is all leather and old school fancy, and it seems to be a winner with the 'golden girls' lol! The place was mobbed but my partner and I must've been the only ones under 60!! They do a 3 course menu for £16.50 which I went for but Martyn went for the A La Carte lunch which is still quite reasonably priced. I started with the Gnocchi and Mushrooms with Garlic toast. It was quite a small portion but really filling and tasty with a nice grilled cheesy top. Martyn had the Bang Bang Prawns which was like a spicy Prawn cocktail with roasted onions, lime juice, and crushed peanuts. It was a really generous portion and was SO nice! I'd get this if I went back. For mains I went with the Peppered chicken with rice pilaf, Ayrshire bacon and brandy sauce. I thought it was quite weird to have rice with this kind of classic dish but it was tasty. It also had little potatoes with it, a side of veg and chips which made it a HUGE meal! Martyn had the breaded Sole with chips and tartare sauce, it was so flaky and tender with a gorgeous Panko crust! You could tell how fresh the fish was. We both went for puddings, I had the lemon tart with ice cream. Costleys is known for their ice creams and it didn't disappoint. He had the Strawberry and white chocolate cheesecake and he cleared the plate ! I'd definitely go back if we were out that way for a drive as it really is lovely and scenic and feels a lot further away than it is. 3 courses each with a couple of soft drinks each was £46 which is really reasonable for the quality of the food and surroundings! read more

Nice enough hotel overlooking Troon. Lovely views right over to Arran and set in very nice grounds. Had heard a lot about this chain of hotels (Costley & Costley) but was slightly disappointed. Room was a little tired looking and a bit dark and the bed was extremely uncomfortable. Meal in the restaurant at night was really quite expensive but certainly very nice indeed. The waiting staff were wonderful and nothing was too much trouble. A couple of irritations were things like not remembering that we had already handed in a gift voucher when we booked in so having to go into lengthy explanations as to why we disagreed with our bill and the fact that the breakfast, although very tasty, was lukewarm at best. Very nice place to go for a special occasion. It's a Costley and Costley place and he seems pretty good at maintaining a high standard. The place is known for being quite posh but it's not uncomfortable and the food is really good. If you like mussels, last time I was there they were serving a huge serving of them that was wel worth the money. It is a bit more expensive than some places but you get a great view out to sea and the food is always really good. read more

Very nice hotel/restaurant set outside Troon on top of hill. There are stunning views out over the sea from the restaurant and the bar you can catch some spectacular sun sets. High standard of service and food. Ideal for special occassion. Part of Costley and Costley group so quite expensive but not overpriced. read more

At the end of August I went up to Highgrove House to book for the Hogmanay Party 2013/2014. We have been the past two years and thoroughly enjoyed the evening. The staff were unable to take our booking at that time and a member of staff took my details and promised a phone call during the week for confirmation and to pay a deposit. To summarize:- 1. We received no phone call. When I phoned up, apparently they had no details of the booking. 2. I sent an email using the Hotels "contact us" link, explaining what had happened and that I was unhappy. One of the reasons I was a little annoyed is the exact same thing happened the year before and we explained this when we were trying to book this year. 3. One week later I had not received a phone call, email or letter regarding my complaint. 4. I phoned and spoke to the Manageress, she kindly informed me that she had seen the email and assumed that another member of staff had replied to me. 5. I decided to send a letter to one of the Directors in the Hotel group, Costley & Costley. It is now three weeks later and I have had no telephone call, email or letter. I expected a much higher level of service from Highgrove House, and I am quite disappointed with the lack of interest in my complaint. My family and friends will not be returning to this Hotel Group again. read more

We had dinner at Highgrove on Sunday 27th October for a special occasion , The service was awful , finally got waitress to take our order after 30min, then wait an hour for drinks to arrive, but they had forgotten my husbands drink so another 10min passed before that came. My daughters meal was awful and I end not enjoy my main course cajun salmon with cold noodles. We could not wait to leave so disappointed . read more
