Good value food with portions on the large side and the drinks are reasonably priced.
The menu is interesting with a mixture of traditional pub grub like steaks, gammon, burgers, liver & onions and a fish specials board which doesn't seem to change, but there is a paper specials which seems to change once a week or so. On top of the normal pub fare there are some more exotic dishes like Mexican Fajitas, Burritos, Chimichangas and Chilli which don't seem very authentic but are tasty and make a nice change. Look out for the grilled breast of chicken with haggis and a pepper sauce: spicy and very tasty!
The hotel is a little disappointing and seems to be in the middle of a slow refurbishment. The rooms are of varying quality with, tired furnishings, faulty windows and occasionally dodgy plumbing. On the plus side most of the rooms are a good size, and they have replaced the old TVs with modern LCD ones with Freeview.
Overall recommended, especially for value and the helpful & friendly staff. read more
