It's tough to manage even opening luggage for 1, much less 2 people. There are no drawers. No hangars. Theres an annoying amount of drinks to buy in the room that take up valuable space. Things didn't work - phone, radiator, fan, sink. The bed in their 'king' room was a full size. I wanted to give it a higher rating for charm but simply can't until they make better use of the space in each room.

The shower was very tight for a large bathroom but the water pressure was good. The food and drinks in the dining room and bar were very tasty and worth making the reservation in advance. The decoration in the hotel is beautiful and the restaurant is fabulous. The place was booked for a large group and we had the aperitif in the terrace. The bar was open for us in the area we were. We then needed bedding for the sofa bed and when we came back the bed was made up. Our dinner at the restaurant was magnificent. The staff were all very nice. At breakfast there was a buffet. The croissants were gone. We were fine with that because we got there late. However one of the servers came back 10minutes later with two hot out of the oven croissants. Above and beyond. I would highly recommend this hotel. Rooms clean! And comfy.

On top of the normal pub fare there are some more exotic dishes like Mexican Fajitas, Burritos, Chimichangas and Chilli which don't seem very authentic but are tasty and make a nice change. Look out for the grilled breast of chicken with haggis and a pepper sauce: spicy and very tasty! The hotel is a little disappointing and seems to be in the middle of a slow refurbishment. The rooms are of varying quality with, tired furnishings, faulty windows and occasionally dodgy plumbing. On the plus side most of the rooms are a good size, and they have replaced the old TVs with modern LCD ones with Freeview. Overall recommended, especially for value and the helpful & friendly staff.

I can thoroughly recommend the bar lunches or bar suppers as they are both great value for money due to the portion sizes which are way larger than you would expect for the price you pay.Meals are served in the dining area in the downstairs part of the hotel which seats approx 50 people at a time. The upstairs section called the Laurieland Suite (after the former hotel name),has a built-in bar- so no need to run downstairs for refreshments. The lounge itself can accomodate approx.80 to 100 people comfortably. The staff at the lodge are first class with their attention to detail an added attribute.
Parkstone Hotel
Do not stay here. We had booked this hotel on booking.com for our recent trip to Scotland. Upon…read morearrival the front desk staff was friendly and had us pay upfront because we had booked through a booking site. We then got to our room. That's when it was really disappointing. The heating barely worked, the sink did not drain properly, WiFi did not work, and the shower would turn on with very little water pressure and then not ever turn off again. When we attempted to turn off the water the handle stared coming off the wall. We complained to front desk immediately, we were then told we could not be moved until the manager came in in the morning. When he finally came to tell us he could move is we had booked at a better place down the road. We then attempted to get a refund on the bights we did not stay there and the management refused. When I said I will then have to write a review on my experience he responded with this email and then blocked me from responding. Don't waste your money!! From the manager: "I really do not see the point in responding to you to any significant degree. Clearly blackmail is the 'norm' for you and if you feel you need to spend your life as a 'keyboard warrior' writing 'multiple negative reviews', there is not much more I can say that is likely to make any difference - anyone who stoops to the vile level of blackmail is really not worth engaging with as they are very unfortunate individuals - in truth, criminals! In any event, I have forwarded your threats to our account managers at the various review sites who take threats of blackmail extremely seriously. "

The lobby and reception area is well looked after but that's where the comfortable and tidy decor ends unfortunately. We were given a ground floor room (114) and the first thing that hit us was how warm the room was! We quickly opened the window but as you will see from the photos, there wasn't much air able to get in. The decor was old and needed a bit of a facelift but more disappointing than that was the peeling wallpaper and poor quality paintwork in the bathroom. I felt badly let down as we had paid around £90 for b&b for what was supposed to be 4 star. We slept on and off during the night but the heat was terrible. The shower had good water pressure but unfortunately the bath did not drain properly and we had to shower with water in the bath. The breakfast this morning was bland, oily and very disappointing. I had to eventually ask someone if I could get a cup of tea after a 15 minute wait. I won't be back unfortunately.
