It was very hard to…read morelocate without the house number visible due to a tall stone fence, and without a normal BnB sign on the outside. There is, however, a small metal sign by the driveway entrance that says "Carlton." Alas, we were there. And there was one room available. And it was rather affordable (65 on a Friday evening, with breakfast). The place is grand and beautiful on the outside, and quaint on the inside. The large gardens have an exit to the beach, which we took advantage of to walk to the Waterside for dinner. Avril, our host, knows a lot about the history of the area and we had interesting conversations with her. The rooms are all antique and historical, with old tvs and radios, antique photos (mostly people in military uniform, I guess family since she inherited the house from her father), and trinkets from other times. We found it characterful and charming, all of it...until we got into the small double bed and our feet hit the footboard. We moved the mattress to the floor to sleep comfortably- we are both tall, 5'10 and 6'1. So that was interesting, but gave us a good giggle.The bathroom is shared, it's the first time I've had that experience, though it would have been fine we didn't shower. Breakfast was good; she asked what we wanted, but I felt rather like I was imposing on her so I just asked for eggs. She didn't have any gf food, so I had eggs and coffee. My fault, except if given options I would have chosen one or two more things. Overall really nice experience.

One of the best B&B's I have ever stayed in…read more We stayed here on the way up to North Scotland, it was a bit out of our way but we had researched B&B's carefully before we went and wanted to stay somewhere good. The setting is very peaceful, totally off the beaten track. This is a family run place and hadn't been up and running long when we went, but the level of service was excellent. The rooms were in a separate annex and were decorated very simply in a clean modern style. The window had a beautiful view and the blind blocked out all the light ensuring an excellent night sleep. The facilities were great, tea and coffee with a good supply of milk. Big TV and planty of tourist info. Breakfast was one of the best I have ever tatsed.

We were greeted with a cup of tea and a glass of beer on our arrival and even homemade shortbread. We had a beautiful room and a lounge for our personal use where I could help myself to a wee dram. Breakfast was served overlooking farmland behind the house with sheep and pheasants roaming before a great panorama of Ayr, Prestwick and the Ayshire countryside. They looked after us from arriving until leaving and it felt like staying over at a friends house. Thanks guys. The only difficult thing was leaving.

Also the girlfriend had choice of fruits and cereals -- I went for full English. Landlords: great bunch, very friendly; welcoming and talkative, but also understand that as soon as you are in you want a shower and a cup of tea. We travelled by car -- plenty of spaces. Had loads of pubs and restaurants (I like my food). Landlord recommended great places for walks and leisure for girlfriend. Great trip. Great B+B.

The house is beautiful, the rooms are clean and comfortable, the metro stop is just a short walk from the front door, and the owners, Marion and Frank are some of the sweetest people you'll ever meet...it was the perfect place to spend our 2 nights in Glasgow. There is so much to do within walking distance from Ashton, it is the perfect place for those looking to explore Glasgow. The breakfast offerings were coffee or tea, cereals and yogurt, freshly cut fruit, toast, and croissants...no eggs or other hot offerings but sometimes you just can't have everything! Our room was on the small side and Marion offered to let us switch rooms on the second night but for us it was just fine as we really weren't in it much anyways! We shared a bathroom with the room next door which can be a bit awkward at times but everyone staying was very polite and we made it work. Marion even let us park our rental car around back for our stay which we were very grateful for. One notable downside is that they don't offer wi-fi at all which, for us, was a bit of a bummer...but we made do on our phones. Overall we really enjoyed our stay at Ashton Glasgow, the location and the hospitality would be very difficult to beat!

Absolutely fantastic is how I would describe our experience at David's beautiful home on Arran,…read moreDarven Cottage. He was previously at Aros Beag down the road but has now moved here. Prior to our arrival, I had a plenty of communication with David via email. Being from the states, this was the easiest method for me and David was always very quick to respond and helpful with directions to the cottage, ferry times, and any other questions I had. Everything about the cottage and its setting is beautiful...you head up a small gravel drive and are greeted by a cozy little cottage hidden behind the trees. We were greeted by David and his 2 perfectly behaved, lovable labradors and he gave us a tour of the clean and homey bedrooms (with pillows and comforters to die for), huge windows with picturesque views of the ocean, cute little kitchen, and common/living room with the same cozy feeling and breathtaking views. David had us feeling at ease, and welcomed us to act as it was our home. When we arrived we had brought some wine and asked if we might have a couple glasses and a little cheese from the Arran Cheese Co before dinner. By the time we had brought our bags into our room, he had wine glasses set out with a cutting board of 3 cheeses and a variety of crackers-blown away by how accommodating he was. After dinner we stayed up with David and 2 of the other guests staying that night until about 12am drinking, talking, and having a fantastic time. Now...the food. I had emailed David before arriving asking if he might be able to make us dinner one of the nights-well it ended up being both nights and these were the best meals we had in our entire 11 day stay in Scotland. Cooking is a hobby of David's and you can tell because his love for it comes through in the food. 3 of the most delicious courses I've ever had for £17.50....you absolutely cannot beat that. His enormous Scottish breakfasts were equally as satisfying and delicious. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect B&B stay on our trip to Arran. This is hands down the best B&B I have ever stayed at and I'm already thinking about our trip back. When you put a beautiful cottage and fabulous hosts together, you absolutely cannot go wrong.
