I asked for soup instead of fries and was not disappointed, it was creamy and peppery and delicious. The burger was great but needed a small hit of acid, adding ketchup helped bring it home. I think a tomato chutney on this would be stellar. The Reuben and Parmesan fries were a hit with my partner, we would definitely and will definitely be back. We also got a skor cheesecake for later, I think I'm in love with a pastry lol. We will be back to try more menu items but mainly so I can continue my love affair with that cheesecake

The Bastard I'll never forget…read more While in the hinterland at a town named Delta, I made a big mistake. Instead of going for the Old Fashioned Breakfast, I went for the Bastard Benedict, which happened to be two poached eggs smothered in Hollandaise sauce on a sourdough English muffin, with their house salad & a hashbrown. Along with it I had smoked salmon. The mistake I made was that we were there for only a couple of days and by first ordering the Bastard Benedict, there was no way in the world I was going to try anything else in this shortened time. The Bastard Benedict was one of the most memorable food experiences I've ever had. Had I been able to stay longer I would have tried everything on the menu. If the Bastard Coffee House was in Toronto, there'd be line-ups to get in full-time.

There are not a lot of tables to eat at - only 3, with a few couches interspersed. The staff and patrons are friendly. We got there early today, and had time to look around before our friends got there. This gave us time to wait for a table, It gets busy in here, so ordering can take some time. However, the food was a while coming out. Our food came out well before our friends' food. However, the food was tasty when it did come out. Unfortunately, my eggs were a bit better done than I like them, but the meal was still edible, while we were eating and our friends were waiting for their food, the waitress admitted that they were short staffed by 2 people (you could really tell!) Later on, we heard they had run out of eggs. Although it is an interesting place, with an eclectic menu, and it's not next door for us, I would not be in a hurry to go back. I would give it one more chance, though, in a while, hoping they get their staffing issues sorted.

The menu is small but very well done with great salads, soup and sandwiches all using local, fresh ingredients .i had the spinach, arugula salad with pecans, apples and sweet potato. I got the half size and it was plenty. I also ordered the chicken pesto sandwich which was delicious but took half home wort me as the salad and sandwich was too much. My husband had the kale and beet salad and a sandwich. He said both were delicious. They also had local Kombucha from Ottawa. Very good. We will definitely come back and am hoping they will extend their hours as they grow. I also liked the atmosphere. I found the Village Bean Coffee place on Yelp and decided to give it a try. I opted for the soup and sandwich combo. Now, I usually don't eat bacon, but I don't know what came over me that day. I ordered the BLT and their soup of the day, which was corn chowder (full of bacon bits). The portion of both the sandwich and the soup were very generous. The combo with a san pellegrino can was about 13$, which is pretty decent. The soup was pretty good and so was the sandwich. The coffee was slightly bitter for my taste, but overall it was good and I enjoyed it. I also ordered an almond bear claw. Unfortunately, I didn't realize it contained raisins, and I'm not a fan of raisins, so I probably wouldn't have chosen it had I known. That said, the pastry itself was fresh and tasty, and the raisins were more of a personal preference issue than a problem with the food. My wife ordered an iced chai latte and absolutely loved it. She often finds chai lattes to be watered down, but she said this one was perfectly sweet, full of flavor, and one of the better ones she's had. The cafe itself is cute, very clean, and has a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The prices were also surprisingly reasonable.
