The kind jazz musicians tip, the kind elders nod in respect at. Well guess what? Today was that day. And YE Gurl walked in ready. The Experience Monet and the team greeted us with that old-school New Orleans warmth -- the kind you can't fabricate. The kind that makes you feel like you're somebody's cousin returning home. They walked the beau and me through the history and styles of different fedoras, including those classic musician silhouettes that are practically part of the city's DNA. I walked into the Hat Loft randomly, just wanting to see what they had for different styles of hats. I ended up finding randomly a stylish dark gray hat that wasn't wool or tweed, fit my noggin comfortably, and looked good. Probably the most I have spent on a trilby/fedora hat. However, the hat was worth the purchase as it became my go-to hat, obviously not only for walking around NOLA, but I have been wearing it back home in Florida. That is the true litmus test when you buy a hat on the fly while traveling somewhere, and you like wearing it all the time. The modern yet stylish interior with hard wooden floors, and inviting atmosphere didn't hurt my excursion into the retail shop that had a lovely array of hats to try on. The staff were also friendly without being overly encouraging, but definitely saw I liked the dark gray hat once I had it on and saw how it looked in the mirror. But their hats are stylish, and I'm glad I picked up one. read more

I found their prices are a little higher than if you bought your hat elsewhere/online, but they have such a great selection and the salesclerk was so nice.
