Went to Meyer the Hatter looking for something different. I knew what I wanted the hat to look like but had no clue where to start. Meyer the hatter had a huge selection of all types of hats from ball caps to fedoras. The man Donald took his time with me in selecting the best had all while helping out other customers. His service was really good! I asked Donald about the fit of a hat that I was going to choose, and he said "hold on, I think I know what you're looking for ". My husband and I discovered it on a visit to New Orleans in 2019 and it was love at first sight. It is conveniently located just a short walk down Canal Street (120 St Charles Ave.) from The Jung Hotel (another phenomenal place) where we stay while in New Orleans. Meyer The Hatter has such a wide selection for hat lovers...men and women alike. One can easily enter the store and leave with tons of hats. Shoppers range from every nook and cranny of the planet. They have many repeat customers and their product and excellent customer service speaks for itself. The family as well as trained employees are very knowledgeable about their product and can answer any inquiry one might have. They are 'A Hat' above the rest and it's obvious why they've been around for four generations! My husband enters the store each time we visit and can easily spend a great amount of time (and money) trying on hats while chopping it up with the owner(s). We love the fact that he can buy QUALITY hats and have them shipped. This last visit the hats arrived at our home before we did...now that's service! I had the opportunity (or shall I say took the opportunity) to assist in talking a customer from Michigan into purchasing a hat for a return trip for the holidays. I'm sure he was the sharpest hat-wearing guy in Michigan for Christmas! Can't recommend this place enough. This family owned hat shop has been going strong in NOLA since 1894. It's billed as The South's Largest Hat Store. And you shall receive personalized service just like hat shops in the days of old from Sam Meyer himself, now 98, soon to be 99, who still works 3 days per week! His wife Marcelle (96) stops in & his sons Paul & Michael work there. Being a hat aficionado, I have stopped here every time I've come to New Orleans. And was lucky on 3/4 occasions to speak with Sam Meyer himself. I'm fact in 2016 he suggested a "proper lady hat" for me, since I had a penchant for men's fedoras. This time I was the second (behind a man already in the shop) to buy a linen flat cap handmade in Belgium with music notes on it. Perfect for my gigs I attend & obviously for Jazz Fest which is right around the corner. Mr. Meyer was as congenial as ever & graciously posed for another photo with me. I came here with my new friend. It was one of those visits to a store that I hadn't anticipated, but was worth it. I like wearing a hat now and again. The problem is that I have a big head (size, not attitude), so trying to find one that fits and is comfortable can be a challenge. I do well with bucket-style hats. I liked this Kangol one. It was light grey. It was comfy. I could dress it up or down. Staff here are highly professional and helpful. I didn't feel rushed choosing and trying on hats. The store is located on St. Charles Avenue close to Canal St. The shop is packed with all variety of hats. Don't know what you want? The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. On my last visit I knew exactly what I wanted so I was in and out in a matter of minutes. If your not sure, and want to try on a bunch of items, you could spend hours here. They have a decent website as well so that you can do your research prior to your store visit. Just remember, everyone needs at least one cool hat. read more

Gotta give a shout out to Meyer the Hatter... I've stopped in there each of my two last visits to the Big Easy, and the first time had me walking out with a proud new felt from Baily's. They have all types of hats... I've got my eye on a nice straw fedora for next time, but being a Midwesterner, I gotta stick primarily, with wools and felts. The customer service is great... I don't know how these guys never tire of climbing the tightly wound staircase to their inventory. Happily, they don't, so I never worry about trying the next hat. The main thing about Meyer is the that they're there. They exist and offer great hats at good prices. I'm a bit crestfallen that my home town of Chicago simply doesn't have choices for classy headwear. There is a custom place in the south loop, where the hats start at $300. Even if I were dropping that kind of coin on my nogen, wearing hats that look good is a process. This is where a hattery like Meyer really shines. You can experiment with different looks, and buy your favorites for reasonable prices. Maybe, just maybe, after building some knowledge and experience with hats, you may decide to have a custom one designed. Until then, I'm happy with Meyer...
