In July 2025, we needed a handyman as our regular handyman was busy with a large project. After doing some research and interviewing, we hired The Handy Nevadan to do several small projects in the home we had just purchased. The owner, Julio, worked with us on price (thank you for the military discount!) and after the scope of work and cost were agreed upon, he and Ty began work the same day and returned the next day to finish the jobs. They removed a TV bracket from a wall, removed a built-in desk, filled holes/sanded/ and painted three walls, checked something in the attic, and added new baseboard to the section of wall where the desk was removed. Overall, they did a good job, making sure the paint had clean lines and being respectful of our property (it was a bit challenging as we were still moving in and there were boxes and belongings strewn about). The only negatives were that Ty arrived about 45 minutes later than expected the second day and although they closed the door to the room that had to be sanded before painting, I wish they had thrown drop cloths over the items in the room as they were covered with dust when they finished and it took some time for me to clean it all. Even with that, we would hire them again if our regular handyman is unavailable - they're work was professional and quality-grade. read more

SCAM* - I reached out to this person after seeing all the positive reviews and spoke with him on the phone about a project. He told me it would be $85 for him to come out and provide a quote. One of the jobs involved cutting vent holes in my crawlspace, which seemed outside his usual scope, so I asked if he could also quote a few additional projects I needed help with. He agreed and even mentioned we could get started the following week. I paid the $85, and he left on great terms & excited to get started on some projects. After that, I followed up multiple times--six attempts in total--simply asking if he was still interested or either way if you could let me know. I never received a response. All I was asking for is a little common courtesy after paying him. Being ignored after payment and led to believe work would move forward is extremely unprofessional. I called this company to get a quote to put together a dresser of mine first he tells me its a very strenuous and tedious job. He asked me for photos of the box I said what exactly are you looking for but I can send you a photo of the original dresser I had put together but the tracks on it failed (This is why I was calling a handyman) He then quoted me $400.00 I said thats a lot on money half the price of the dresser and he hung up on me. I tried to call him back no answer so I texted him to let him know it was very unprofessional for him to respond that way a long with that cost is extremely high. He tells me Im was difficult and had a tone. This was not a good experience and typical response from a man to a woman unfortunately. read more

Julio responded quickly and an appointment was agreed to over the phone for Thursday at 4:30. He called at said he could not come until 5;30. So it was agreed he would come Friday at 9:30. It is now 10:30 and he did not show up. Or call. On calling him there was no answer and a message was left for Julio that we would find another person for our project. I used Julio yesterday. Here are the facts. Another tradesman referred Julio to me and he texted to say that he was available and when could he come over to look at the job. I texted back and forth and then realized that I knew nothing about him since he had not done a proper introduction about his service. He told me how long he'd been in the business and that he had great reviews. He sent me a link to his Thumbtack account. He came at the time agreed with another man who came into my home and listened to the discussion for the work. I asked Julio if the man who came with him was going to be a part of the job and was told a sort of "maybe" answer. When Julio came to do the job, it was just him. The bid was 450 to remove a cabinet that was attached to drywall and install another Home Depot one in place. He said that there would be some rough edging on the sides and it would need trimming. I did not hear him say that he was going to do that so I said I guess I have to do that and he did not respond like that was included. The job took him from 8:30 to about 3 or before. and that's a lot per hour for one person. In hindsight, I would want to had a longer conversation about his bid and asked him to tell me the range of hours that he thinks the job might take. I This way, you know what you are paying by the hour (roughly) and can compare that with other bids/hourly rates. I even asked him if he would have a helper for the job and we discussed materials. Nothing was written down! You should text him with what the deal was right there and then and ask hime to reply back with a "yes" to say you have understood what is happenening. He started the next day which is wonderful when it comes to handymen since most are hustling several jobs and you have to wait in line for the current ones to be done before they start. That's why he gets stars. He also did do the work he said he would do. But back to the bid in writintg, I know he does not text you the job bid that he says verbally. That's not good for you to use. Ask for it or you text him with the deal and he responds back. Have something in writing including what materials are being paid for by whome. As far as I know, he is not a contractor. I am used to paying handymen 35-45 an hour. I ended up paying him about 60 bucks an hour or more. When I told him this, his response was that he did not know how peole make a living on that hourly and I responded that there are many who are making 17 an hour in Reno. Yes, people do make a living at 45 an hour or less. So when he does give you a bid, stop and spend at least ten minutes on discussing how many hours is expected and try to negotiate. It's possible that he will not do the job for less. He did give his bid price rather quickly from no research and so his bid price is a real estimate that he is coming up with. So, you could ask him to reconsider the time involved but he may not do that if his business model is not to negotiate the price. Might as well try better than I did. read more
