I wish I could give Rock Solid Handyman Services 100 stars. Due to some unfortunate events, my house took a beating and acquired two gaping holes in the wall. I didn't know who to call, so I hopped on Yelp and started looking for a handyman. Aaron is seriously THE MAN. He showed up day-of to assess the situation and explain the process and costs. The next day he was back and ready to work. He was so professional and clean throughout the whole process, you could tell he was in his element - doing everything with an immense amount of attention to detail. I've included the before-and-after photos, and they speak for themselves honestly. They still need a fresh coat of paint (but that's on me as I'm trying to find the correct one), but I'm blown away by his craftsmanship. I don't even see them anymore, it's like they never happened! Soooo.... I requested a quote from this handyman company and I received a response that said he would not be able to get out here till April. I then asked if that was for just a quote. He came back that he doesn't do quotes, he shows up, does the work and charges 75.00 an hour plus material. No thanks. If you can't even give quotes then this company isn't the one for me! BEWARE!!!! If I could give a zero star review I would. We are very near to filing a lawsuit against Aaron and his company. He put skirting and trim around the bottom of our single wide. I thought it strange he wanted us to make our own supply list and order our own materials, but we measured and did our best. I thought maybe that is how handymen work. From day one Aaron was either late, unavailable, or absent. He would show up late, work for a few hours and leave for sometimes days. I have a little dog and he left our home open underneath, both of us are disabled to it was very difficult for us to keep an eye on our dog due Aarons lack of communication and lack of professionalism. He was asked to communicate with us better and he would promise to, then he would fall back into his old habits. When Aaron finally finished what should have been a four day job, but ended up wayyyy longer, from the outside it looked fine. Then the weather started to change and everything Aaron had worked on started to warp and buckle. Our entire bottom part of our single wide is a mess. The owners of our property required we have the skirting and trim replaced as part of our agreement when we bought our home. We are on a very limited budget due to disabilities and chronic pain, what little money we had for repairs we paid to Aaron. My father was a contractor for most of my life. He just recently moved back to Reno and came by to look at the skirting. He was shocked when he looked under the house. None of the skirting was attached to vertical framing. AS A MATTER OF FACT, NO VERTICAL FRAMING EXISTS!! He framed along the bottom, framed under the home, and the corner posts, but did not put any framing to connect the seams of the skirting to. Not only that he only put a screw here and there to attach the trim. So the first nasty weather we get things start warping and bending. When Aaron was confronted about the lack of vertical studs and screws and he gave a lot of excuses, but the one that really blew my mind was he told us that the reason the entire place warped was because we didn't paint or caulk. We had actually had the skirting and the trim painted asap, so Aaron was wrong. As for caulking, I have been around construction my whole life through my dad (again, he is a retired contractor), never ever ever was the lack of caulking a reason for the ENTIRE JOB TO WARP AND BUCKLE. I double checked my dad and he agreed, caulking is not the culprit, Aaron's incompetence is the problem. So now we have to answer to our property owner on why we don't have proper skirting and trim. We have to figure out how to pay for repairs when we are already pinching pennies. A lawyer is going to be a whole other bill we don't know how we are going to pay. So, good job Aaron!! Thanks for causing two very sick people to have to go through an incredible amount of stress when you could have done the right thing and stood by your work. *MY REPLY TO AARONS RESPONSE Nope. This type of siding is commonly used for mobile home skirting. Lack of structure and screws was the problem. Bret doesn't have a grandchild, at all, I have no idea what Aaron is talking about. The skirting and trim was painted after Aaron's work was done and before the rain started. Aaron saw two disabled people on a budget and thought we would be an easy target. He treated the job like we were not important from the very beginning. Showing up late and giving us bits and pieces of his time like he was doing us a favor instead of doing the job we paid him to do. I think just because we live in a trailer he thinks we're less than human. We had a few bids for the job and picked Aaron because he's good at telling you what he can do for you, later we found out he just doesn't have the skill to back his words. We paid for the job we thought he was doing. Afterwards, seeing that there is no vertical structure behind the skirting is mind blowing. There is nothing to screw the siding to! He keeps insisting that caulking is the problem. Aaron is one hell of a smooth talker. He will tell you one thing to your face then do another as soon as he's hired. We are having a hard time dealing with this situation. We both have severe nerve damage (and multiple chronic pain issues) and the stress from this is causing an incredible amount strain on us, physically and emotionally. Aaron does not stand by his work! My dad was in construction all of his life. He would have never treated people this way. My dad's word and reputation meant everything so seeing Aaron's work ethic is especially disappointing. Aaron got in over his head and is now refusing to stand by his work. I truly believe the positive reviews on Aaron's Yelp are planted. They must be left by family and friends. THIS IS A NIGHTMARE! DONT HIRE THIS GUY!! read more

Based on the ratings, I contact Arron on Nov 7 and set up an appointment for November 18th. The request was to hang a couple of ceiling fans and a light in our dining room. On Nov 7th I got a call around 5pm saying he was behind on another project and would noon work for us. I told him it would and he said great. I waited to about 12:30 on the 18th to ping him asking when you might be here. An hour later he replied he had fallen further behind and might be able to make it tomorrow afternoon. Aaron, the owner, really came through for us to renovate and complete repairs in a timely manner. His contributions helped to justify selling our home at a much higher value (sold at ~$10K over sale price). He took complete ownership and pride in all that he did. Background: We needed to sell our 10+ year old home over the summer (2018). There were multiple things that Aaron troubleshooted and repaired/resolved during this process related to roof, tiles, shower leakage, plumbing, painting, and minor structural and cosmetic repairs. He's especially talented with stucco work -- which is not easily found in Reno as it turns out! Despite all the jobs being completely different in nature, Aaron was able to complete everything efficiently, and his work had completely aligned with his quote and preliminary assessments that he gave. 3/23/20 UPDATE #2--I just saw Aaron's response to my girlfriend, who posted her own frustrations. He spouts lots of technical info, and implies that I used substandard materials. The exterior siding and trim we used was just that: exterior materials exclusively for siding. We didn't scrimp and Aaron had no verbalized problems with the materials . He would have preferred to go with new code criteria but this is a 36 year old trailer. Anyway, I'm in the process of getting quotes from LICENSED contractors to fix this fiasco and then we'll get to deal with court. Thee first contractor that looked at this laughed at how Aaron could put up siding but not attach it to a structure under the trailer. BTW, it took 63 hours and $4000 for him to do what was quoted at 40 hours and $2500. I really have to wonder what all he was doing for so many hours since when he got here I had all the materials and all of the old uprights had been removed so all he had to do was install. I accept responsibility for putting my faith in a Handyman rather than a licensed contractor, but I'm a disabled senior on a fixed income so I had to compromise. Shame on me.... read more
