So I made an appointment at Hair We Are, liking the name and having seen it many times on my way to the Price Chopper down the road. Diana did my hair and I'm still kind of astonished by how well she matched the color, seemingly without really even looking at it first. It looks fabulous, all glossy and golden and natural, and the trim she gave me was subtle but nicely layered and sufficiently sophisticated. Heidi did my eyebrows and also did a great job, and I'm thrilled to say that she never double-dipped the wax (as is lamentably common in even upscale NYC salons, gross and potentially dangerous as that is). The prices at this place are very reasonable, almost scarily so, and I suspect that I'll be going back a lot. It's not a fancy salon at all--it has a very down-home feel to it and the furnishings are a little worn. But the space is cute and there are tons of magazines to read and complimentary drinks while you wait. The service is really friendly and pretty fast, the prices are amazing, and the results speak for themselves. What a great find.

I feel completely violated. ***Do not start cutting a person's hair without getting permission as to the length you plan to remove.*** We were still discussing the length she was going to cut, and all of a sudden I heard the scissors snip. Lucy, this was an absolutely unacceptable violation. Four inches gone. I'm devastated. She also accused me of "telling her how to do her job" simply because I said I'd like some point cutting. She asked what I wanted, then acted insulted when I described the haircut I came in for. The worst salon experience of my life, and I haven't even addressed all of the issues. The woman cutting my hair was nice enough but she seemed very unsure of everything she did. It took her forever to dry my hair yet the blow dryer was so hot that it was burning my scalp and face as she tried to dry it......and I don't have thick hair....as she washed my hair, water got all over my face as she was spraying and she didn't have a towel around my neck while washing, so my dress got wet. I know these seem like small things but sometimes it's the small things that make a huge difference. If I'm going for just a simple cut no problem! But if it's anything more like a color or an extreme change I would recommend going somewhere else......

When I described my situation and my hair (thick, course and wavy- Short) the woman on the phone suggested Stephen- one of their Master Stylists.
