The gym is big. It is spread across three rooms; the main room has all the cardiovascular machines and a few weights machines. The next largest room has a large area for stretching etc. Finally the smallest of the three is a free weights room. The machines are not looked after especially well however this does not matter much as there are so many of them. So many in fact that you can literally feel the floor pulse the the steps of the running machines.

A quieter, more welcoming weight room is round the corner for those not quite ready to join the Hercules wannabes. It's a small place housed in a basement, with a couple of running/cross training/rowing machines, though the main emphasis was on the weights. My overall impression was one of slight intimidation from the slightly ropey looking clientele, a large proportion of whom looked they might have been somewhat chemically enhanced. In short, it's nowhere near the league of the more luxurious hotel type establishments, though I'm sure that's reflected in the prices.

The Gym has a Mixed sex Gym, a boxing area which is why I was interested, and also for those of you seeking a washbored stomach they even have an abs room! ... sounds a bit weird if you ask me! The Powerstation Gym also caters for all seemingly as they have a range of beauty treatments in it's own Beauty Salon located on premises. After a hard workout you can also have a chill out (not really the right phrasing of words!) in the male or female saunas for a nice little reward.

The changing rooms are always immaculate and they offer good facilities, there are lots of hairdryers and it reminds me of a spa in there. The gym itself is well laid out and is a comfortable temperature for your workout, it has never been too busy and I have never felt that I have been looked down upon for my poor physique - whereas some gyms you feel uncomfortable. The staff are all really friendly and helpful and after your workout there is a really nice restaurant which serves really nice food and really tasty coffee.

To start with you have to pay to park in the hotel car park, as a turtle tots goer this is half price and only £1 for an hour but it's practically impossible to get in and out within that time. The clock is also about 10 minutes out and despite complaints has been this way for months, so it's easy to get caught out. The staff are all really friendly and the changing rooms are fairly modern and always clean. The pool is pretty small but that's quite common for a health club so no real surprise. Everything is okay about this place but nothing to make you go wow!!

Get a job man! Chip on my shoulder, me? Never... But it does have the perfect mix of cardio machines (for girls) and weights (for boys) and an extremely good number of both. They also have a pool, which is really nice for a gym in the centre of town as this one is. They do evening classes that come free as part of your membership, although I haven't done one yet. You can also buy a day pass if you are not in town for long and looking for a gym to use. They have Sky Sports so you can watch the football at the weekends while you pretend to be exercising. The only bad things about this gym are the price (for us normal people, i.e. not students) and how busy it gets in rush hour (after work). You might even say it is almost over subscribed, as often there are no lockers available and no treadmills to use. it's a real shame they've done this as I know it does anger a lot of members.
