Not that I was particularly hard to convince as this place has an amazing spa area and swimming pool, as well as all the usual gym suspects. You really do get what you pay for with gyms and although this place is eye-wateringly expensive, you do get an easier gym experience - think personal greetings, complimentary towels and regular free health check-ups such as BMI and cholesterol levels. If your paycheque doesn't stretch to becoming a member then check out the website for weekend or daytime offers for non-members.

Get a job man! Chip on my shoulder, me? Never... But it does have the perfect mix of cardio machines (for girls) and weights (for boys) and an extremely good number of both. They also have a pool, which is really nice for a gym in the centre of town as this one is. They do evening classes that come free as part of your membership, although I haven't done one yet. You can also buy a day pass if you are not in town for long and looking for a gym to use. They have Sky Sports so you can watch the football at the weekends while you pretend to be exercising. The only bad things about this gym are the price (for us normal people, i.e. not students) and how busy it gets in rush hour (after work). You might even say it is almost over subscribed, as often there are no lockers available and no treadmills to use. it's a real shame they've done this as I know it does anger a lot of members.

Welsh Back Gym prides itself for having people, not posers and I can only say that my time at this…read moregym has given me every reason to believe them. The staff were always extremely helpful and friendly, always willing to take you through different exercises and help adjusting the different machines. They're also fortunate enough to have a MedX circuit, a combination of machines that give you a full body work out. When used properly, these machines are absolutely fantastic and very well maintained. They also have treadmills that overlook the quayside which allow for a peaceful run and an additional treadmill room with plenty of televisions. The resistance machines are also well kept, though should be replaced soon. The free weights section is quite small, but the layout makes up for it. I never had a problem getting on all the machines I wanted, and I always managed to do several circuits on the freeweights without having to wait for anyone else. I found the members of the gym to be extrememly friendly and always willing to discuss various techniques, which is an attitude I haven't encountered in a gym before! The classes are also excellent, with a great yoga class led by Wale, and an excellent thai boxing class with Jason. The restaurant downstairs is also well worth mentioning, since the soup and food available was always surpringly great. Overall, this is a fantastic gym in need of a slight refurbishment.

Awesome local gym!…read more It's not massive, but the locality and quality of equipment make up for that. There is a ton of cardio equipment, a lot of different weights and weight rooms and I've only been to a few of them, but the classes I've been to were just awesome. As I said, it's not massive, so obviously don't join expecting a pool or anything, but don't let that deter you from a great local gym

So, it's been a while, but it was time for me to re-join a gym and get superfit. I have limited…read morefunds at the moment and also know that I need a gym nearby to where I live, otherwise, I'll assume that paying the fee alone will get me fit - ridiculous I know! Workout is on North Street in Bedminster - super easy to get to, and for a joining fee of £15, and by paying 2 months up front at £9.99 a month for off peak membership - I was signed up. They did also advise me that they also charge one further fee which is payable in February and goes towards maintenance of the club - it's a fixed fee and everyone has to pay it - but apart from that it's contract free. As an off peak member I can use the gym from 8am til 4.30pm Mon to Fri, and 8am - 8pm at weekends - absolutely perfect for me. I can also access their classes and have 50 in a year for no extra charge. There's a sauna and steam room, and even a separate womens only area for toning!! None of this negotiating weights with huge muscly chaps :) Now as a budget gym I have to say my expectations weren't particularly high - and I'm the first to admit that I was wrong to have this preconception. I was massively impressed and surprised by the quality and standard of the equipment - it is top notch and definitely on a par with more expensive gyms in this city that I have previously been a member of. You do need to bring a padlock with you, as you need it for the lockers in the changing room, but.... If you're looking for a gym - I would definitely recommend it. Go sign up.

Whilst a member here I became partially paralysed from the waist down, suffered a complete heart block and a stint in high care for pneumonia. I froze my membership but apparently it didn't go through - I didn't use my membership throughout this time so was evident that I certainly believe it was frozen. Manager of the branch denied my mere £30 back despite medical evidence right in front of him and the evidence from their systems that I didn't once attend the gym in that time. They are clearly desperate for the money to deny £30 back to a now disabled 18 year old. Tomorrow is never promised, and nor is it promised that you won't end up seriously ill tomorrow. Avoid, because if anything happens to you whilst you're a member that means you seriously cannot attend, you won't be getting any money back. Me and my boyfriend have both ended our memberships now and will never be returning.

The Gym is cheap and cheerful, well, maybe not cheerful, but it is cheap! £16 a month gives you: new cardio machines, new weight machines, free weights and 3 free classes a day. They constantly have at least one cleaner cleaning the machines, floors and changing rooms. The place is very clean and changing rooms are just fine. But you will need to bring your own lock for the lockers. As with any gym it does get busy at peak times: 12-2 and 5-7.30. But it isn't any worse than other gyms I've been too. The free classes are OK, but they take place on the top floor in a cordoned off area. They aren't in their own room. £16 well spent in my eyes!
