My Mum loves this place and goes at least 3 times a week. It's doing her the world of good. A nice smaller gym with a friendly atmosphere.

The gym is big. It is spread across three rooms; the main room has all the cardiovascular machines and a few weights machines. The next largest room has a large area for stretching etc. Finally the smallest of the three is a free weights room. The machines are not looked after especially well however this does not matter much as there are so many of them. So many in fact that you can literally feel the floor pulse the the steps of the running machines.

Open to student and non-students alike, the annual price is very reasonable. Parking may be difficult for those who live further afield but I guess the walking will do you good as a warm-up! There is a separate weights room for the hunky men who spend hours pouting at themselves in the ceiling-size mirrors and a fitness suite full to the brim with cardio machines. A quieter, more welcoming weight room is round the corner for those not quite ready to join the Hercules wannabes. Trainers are on-hand to assist you and also make good eye-candy whilst you're sweating it out on the treadmill.

I have recently been made aware of Clifton College Sports Centre, I popped in on my way back from work last week to have a little snoop around. As with the majority of other things based in Clifton, it's very nice but very expensive. The boast you can have membership from as little as £37.50, but that's at least 10 pounds more than your average membership. It is a very good gym, with two to choose from as well as a small pool, and courts to play on. If you lived real near by it might be worth the money.

Well it sounds like you need maximum outlay for minimum input. That's not quite what Pro-Fitness offers, but the results in just a few months were better than my own disastrous efforts to hit the gym. At around £40 an hour it is more for Clifton's yummy mummies than average scrubbers like me, so it's no wonder I couldn't keep the sessions up once I'd cornered my man. But the team here are really dedicated and really know their stuff. They tailor-make work-outs and chop and change them so often that you can't get bored. And they give you the confidence and impetus to work harder for every single second of a 60-minute work-out. They are also great at advising altered work-outs if you are injured, pregnant, or getting over an illness. The facilities are a little cramped but the gym's owner Lee works hard to change things around. And every trainer has a speciality. If I was loaded, I would be here every day. Maybe one day perhaps......

He has recently expanded to create is own home Personal Training company whereby he can come and visit you in the comfort of your own home. This is especially handy if you have a young-an to look after or even a husband who needs constant attention! I warn you that you will feel like you have died after just one hour with him. I don't think i have ever worked so hard in my entire life, and I sure did suffer the morning after. However, I take this as a positive thing as it tells me that he has actually got me to use muscles I never knew existed and that my money is clearly well spent. Within 3 sessions with him, myself and others noticeably saw a positive difference in both my body and my confidence. My fitness levels have soared and I can finally fit into that size 8 dress that I bought years ago with the intention of getting into!! I now know without a shadow of a doubt that I could never have lost the weight without his help. I really value the fact that he explains everything in such detail so I fully understand the techniques, meaning I can do them by myself. Price wise, I feel Fitness Evolution is extremely good value. A one off session will cost roughly £35, but the best thing to do is to buy in bulk. This means you can get 5 sessions for £100 making it just £20 a go. Top tip - Fitness Evolution has many deals with local shops so ask him if he has any vouchers and you may find yourself having a free cheeky cocktail at Pitcher and Piano, or money off vouchers at sports shops. Can't say I've been for any of the beauty treatments at 'The Sensory', but they seem to do a good trade which can't be a bad sign. The range of classes is good but you need to book well in advance for the most popular ones. There is also aqua aerobics on a regular basis and swimming training on Tuesday evenings that can do wonders for your front crawl. They also have a pool, which is really nice for a gym in the centre of town as this one is. They do evening classes that come free as part of your membership, although I haven't done one yet. You can also buy a day pass if you are not in town for long and looking for a gym to use. They have Sky Sports so you can watch the football at the weekends while you pretend to be exercising. The only bad things about this gym are the price (for us normal people, i.e. not students) and how busy it gets in rush hour (after work). You might even say it is almost over subscribed, as often there are no lockers available and no treadmills to use. it's a real shame they've done this as I know it does anger a lot of members.
