    The Guinea bar on Christmas

A tremendous Christmas Day luncheon. Wonderful Beef Wellington and Yorkshire Puddings. Kindness in abundance from the staff. We are so grateful to have been with you. A lovely atmosphere and day.

Absolutely fantastic dining experience at this dimly lit, old world feel pub and restaurant. The service, ambiance, Guinness, and especially Sunday Roast were 10/10. Highly recommend to anyone considering this establishment that came recommended from a local. The dining area is a bit fancier with tablecloth service, so keep that in mind. Food: After scouring pubs and restaurants in London for the best Sunday Roast, we decided on The Guinea. We shared the Roast Fore Rib of Godfrey's Grass Fed Dry Aged Beef, Horseradish Sauce and Yorkshire Pudding Roast. It was served with Duck Fat Roast Potatoes, Honey Glazed Carrots and Parsnips, Seasonal Greens, Baby Onions and Gravy from the Pan. It was absolutely delicious! The roast beef was succulent and beautifully cooked. The potatoes were crispy yet soft on the inside and the vegetables were perfectly cooked. The gravy deserves a shoutout of its own for how delicious it was. Drinks: We heard the best Guinness in London is served here and they poured a mighty pint. Fantastic and we enjoyed our waiter explaining the pouring and certification process, as well as the history behind Guinness.

Caesar salad - 6.5/10. Way too overdressed.

Rowdy pub on the right; classy restaurant on the left. Fun place to grab a pint after work but separately came here for a nice, very British dinner on a Sunday. I'd give dinner 7.5/10 - food quality was very good and felt like fancy pub food, service was lovely, and the ambiance feels very classy and British (there was someone polishing the silverware in one of the back rooms). Food was very rich, but very good. We were hoping to try the Sunday roast on Sunday but they stop serving at 5pm (we arrived closer to 6pm). Instead we ordered: Seared scallops - 8/10 Caesar salad - 6.5/10 Steak, Guinness, oyster pie - 9/10 Mashed potatoes - 7.5/10 Broccoli - 7/10 Scallops (comes with 3 large scallops) were very good, but very rich. They were cooked perfectly and so tender. The beurre blanc and grapefruit butter was very flavorful - I couldn't taste any grapefruit. The Caesar salad was fine but way too overdressed and the dressing wasn't anything overly special. Next time I'd ask for light dressing. The steak, Guinness, and oyster pie was the star. The oyster was a bit misleading since in fact it's only served with one fried oyster on top of the pie; there are no oysters inside the pie. The filling is meat only, incredibly tender and melts in your mouth. Again, very rich and salty but I'm not even a big red meat eater and I went back for seconds. I'd have loved some veggies inside the pie but maybe that's because I'm American and like veggies and the classic British meat pie is meat only. Both the top and outer rim of crust was thick and crispy. This was big enough for 2 girls and we took home leftovers (though also because we ordered other items). If you get the pie, get the mashed potatoes. While they are nothing overly special, they provide a nice base for the meat pie filling and were the only things that weren't overly salty. The broccoli was also very rich - very rich and very salty. The sauce was a bit too buttery but had a nice garlic flavor. Overall, I'd probably come back here for the steak and Guinness pie with mashed potatoes. I'd also love to try the Sunday roast.

This is our first time to London and we asked the concierge for recommendation for dinner for an authentic experience. The Guinea Grill is in a posh area of London. Within a few blocks you will find a Ferrari dealership, a Dunhill store, and other high end shops. It was an easy and scenic walk from our hotel in Grosvenor Square. You will need a reservation to visit. I believe they have 2 seatings a night. One at 6-6:30 and one at 8-8:30. You will find the restaurant on a very quaint cobble stone street. There has been a restaurant in this location since the 1400s! Seriously! Columbus might have eaten here before he sailed for America! This restaurant is very English. Lovely. There's a plaid sort of carpet, with dark paneled wood and pictures of dogs, sheep, and cows on the wall. This restaurant is famous for their steaks and you can see the selection of cuts in the cabinet as you walk in in front of a huge grill. A few things that I loved besides the food...the serious mustached maitre d' who took our coats with great ceremony, our waiter with wearing a top hat and pocket watch, not in a tongue in cheek way, and the mustard service (?!?) 5 varieties of mustards presented as accompaniments to our dinner. The food...we ordered a bone in sirloin, a beef Wellington, and a steak and oyster pie. This food was AMAZING! We had sides of mushrooms and Gruyère spinach. They are not to be missed. The meat pie was my favorite. A buttery flaky crust with tender pot roast style meat and oysters seasoned to perfection. Oh, if you think you should skip dessert, don't! The sticky toffee pudding was epic. I had it once before at a Gordon Ramsey restaurant and I'm sorry Chef Ramsey, this sticky toffee blew yours away! Light cake with buttery and gorgeous with some ice cream on the side. Absolutely incredible! If you are in the Mayfair area, this restaurant is a must visit!

Bone in ribeye, creamed spinach, haggis and a creamy Guinness. Grown man's candy.

Great place, great service. Bone in Ribeye lived up to expectations, creamed spinach was creamy and the haggis hit the spot. I will definitely be back

Scotch, chips & sausage roll. The best.

Scotch, chips & sausage roll in the bar. The best. Totally authentic. This is what a pub should be.

Sirloin on the bone. 16oz/448g. £33.50 as of Dec '13. Dry aged for at least 25 days. With creamed spinach.

20% About average steak and poor service *** Came here for lunch Dec '13 with a small group. This might be the first time I've tried a British steakhouse, so Im unfamiliar if this establishment represents the norm. Nonetheless, I can say with certainty that it's not a place that I can recommend. While the food isn't terrible, I think the combination of that and the offensively poor service brought the service to a much warranted one star rating. It was one of the worst restaurants I've visited in the past few years. I'll break my review down to what I thought of the food, and then elaborate on value, service and ambiance. There were some positives, but not quite enough to give it any more credit than being an uncomfortable experience. The sirloin on the bone, or NY strip I tried here was about average. If I had to rate Guinea Grill on food alone, I would have considered closer to a 2 star rating. The steak doesn't come with condiments Sirloin on the bone 16oz/448g £33.50 (Dish Rating 40%). Note that I recall the steak may have been listed as 'Yorkshire Beef', and dry aged for at least 25 days. PIC of steak; http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-guinea-grill-london?select=ms_6EZO4OpQ8Z9fypYiRmw#UvjeN7qUsUQC4jeMXHA5bg I had requested the steak be prepared rare. Long story short, it appeared that the kitchen was only able to cook the steak either medium or blue rare. I eventually settled on blue rare. More on that with the service part of my review. Having the steak prepared 'blue rare', the texture worked well, but the flavor of the steak was lacking. The texture worked in that the meat was very tender. It looked like ahi tuna and more or less had the tenderness of it, perhaps testament to the quality of beef used and the lack of connective tissue inside. It was a joy to chew through. This was the best part of the steak. The flavor of the steak had some merits. It was seared well despite being cooked so little. There was a nice amount of char, and it translated to adding a nice bit of bitterness in flavor that was delicious. I found the seasoning of the steak to be a tad more on the aggressive side. The saltiness wasn't overpowering, but I found it to be the most prominent flavor of the steak, instead of any beef flavors. The main issue of this steak was that the meat didn't offer much flavor, which I find defeats the purpose of having the dish to begin with. Perhaps the issue came with cooking the beef 'blue rare', I can't say since it was either that or medium. There were no sour notes, nutty notes common with dry aged cuts, or any metallic notes from the blood. The beef was more or less all texture, and no flavor. Value of the food seems reasonable. I don't understand the norm of what steakhouses charge in London, but it goes without saying that the cost of living and prices are much higher than what I'm used to in Los Angeles and Manhattan. Roughly 33 pounds might equal somewhere around US$60. The average American steakhouse might charge around $50-60 for a 16oz dry aged NY Strip. Its not a steal, but I'm not complaining. Service is terrible. All of the staff were inattentive and took forever to get anything done. The staff had to be waived down for everything. It was a chore to order, ask for the bill, ask for drinks, etc. It was uncomfortable. The worst part of service involved one of the servers or managers who was argumentative with how a steak ought to be prepared. I've visited a good amount of steakhouses, but never encountered a situation like this. The first time my steak arrived, it came out what I considered to be medium, with the center barely pink and slightly brownish. It was unacceptably over cooked. One of the servers or the manager was argumentative and stubborn with it being being rare. He stressed that having the steak any more rare would be it being 'blue' or blue rare. I requested that he make another steak closer to rare nonetheless. For reference, blue rare is a step undercooked than rare. When the second steak arrived, it did come out a blue rare with the meat being close to raw in the center. Visually, it's akin to seared ahi tuna. I guess the restaurant does not understand there is a middle ground. Without wanting to argue further and making my dining companions feel any more uncomfortable, I settled with the 'blue rare' preparation. Ambiance is very nice. The atmosphere of the restaurant resembles a smaller house. Its cozy and comfortable. The acoustics were mild. The decor was old fashioned and traditional, yet charming. I found it to be the most enjoyable part of the dining experience. The Guinea Grill isn't a steakhouse I can recommend.

A pleasant and sometimes overcrowded pub / restaurant based in a quiet backstreet just off of Berkley square. Old fashioned and largely used by the pin striped businessmen that work in the area this is a pub with a restaurant in the back of the pub. An odd sort of a place with an equally odd bar manager, they serve a sausage in a crusty French stick - very basic and not that great and yet if you go to the restaurant is it all rather spiffing don't you know. Not upmarket in anyway but offering traditional British food with no fuss or frills. One of the better pubs in the area and it prides itself and has many awards for the pies it does (again very traditional steak and kidney etc). I always come away with a strange feeling and it isn't fantastic but there is nothing particularly wrong with it. I guess I would use it for work or if in the area but not in my leisure time.

Remarkable, he scored and I literally walked around the corner and saw the long line to get into the pub first. I was seated immediately, however, and proceeded to enjoy a traditional Sunday Roast. Room was very pleasant (there are so many I got lost returning to my table from a bio brake. Roast was very good ( but no Lawry's) and the sides excellent. Could not decide if my favorite was the roast potatoes (crispy outside soft inside) or the glazed carrots. Yorkshire pudding was good but again, I am to used to the Lawry's and this is a different style. Peas were, well, peas, but very fresh. The sticky toffee cake was excellent and the Guinness fresh, creamy and a proper pour. Good thing because the selection of winners by the glass and half bottles of wine were both a little thin. Overall wine list was good but I was alone and not up for drinking a full bottle by myself. Overall, very enjoyable and to judge by the crowd and difficulty in getting a reservation, one of the more popular in town.

Wildfarmed sourdough - served with whipped salted butter and Guinness butter. Well toasted bread and the butters with salt were well made. Fuller's London Pride marinated steak and ale pie - served with seasonal veggies and red wine gravy, as well as either mash potatoes or triple cooked chips. If there is one dish London does really well, it's their pies. It was beautifully made and loaded with steak. The red wine gravy was decadent and added a perfect amount of moisture to the pie. Triple cooked chips were perfectly crispy but fluffy on the inside. Corn fed chicken breast - served with garlic and sage butter, mash potato, cavolo nero, and crispy onions. Only took a bite of this as it was my partner's dish but the bite of chicken I had was very juicy and well seasoned.
