I almost broke the damn thing pushing and pulling. Bitter and Pour has all top-shelf liquor, and their cocktail list sounds fascinating. The mixologists are well-trained. Our bartenders on a Wednesday afternoon in September were professional, but they lacked the warmth I encountered everywhere else in this city. Our drinks were great, though, and B & P must be the best cocktail lounge in Rochester. I wish they served some small bites, but that's not their thing.

To start, the appetizers were instant hits. The chicken meatballs were full and flavorful, and it was very clear that they were hand-made because we could see the herbs inside. The mother sauce gave them a second layer of flavor upon dipping the meatballs in it. Then the lobster bisque totally blew my mind because it was so flavorful that I thought it was the best I had ever had. I could taste the heavy cream easily and I thought the sherry and brandy did a fantastic job in diversifying the flavors with the existing seasoning. We also loved how big the portion was for the hashbrowns and thought the gouda cheese had the right consistency to provide flavor and texture, while the caramelized onions gave a layer of sweetness which was refreshing because I don't often see that with hashbrowns, if at all. The mushroom risotto was also full of flavor, especially since it had truffle oil, making it full of umami. I also really enjoyed the tiramisu, as it was soft enough and had layers of ingredients that were clearly divided and defined. Relatively I enjoyed the pappardelle grilled chicken less because the chicken was hard to chew and the tomatoes didn't really help elevate the overall flavor. I also thought that the crème brûlée had too much egg yolk flavor, and since I make this dessert myself often, I knew it was because they didn't put enough sugar into the yolk, sugar, and heavy cream mixture. I would recommend adding more sugar to help overcome the yolk flavor. Despite my slight criticism, I still thought this was arguably the best Italian food that I have had in the entire state, and I would most definitely return if I come by Rochester again. I found a seat at the beautiful and expansive bar and looked around at the Del Prado design. The colors might be different, but Flora was reminiscent of Minari and Noma. All three add to the Twin Cities' cachet. However, I was taken aback by the attire I saw around me. People were dressed in shorts, T-shirts, and sneakers. It's friggen Saturday night Minneapolis. Have some class! Flora Room was a lovely cocktail lounge, perfect for wooing, but don't expect to strike up a conversation with any of the bartenders. At these Del Prado joints, the staff must be trained not to engage. I'm out alone and enjoy talking. Bartenders used to be part of a lounge's attraction when I grew up in NYC. They learned your name, knew what you did, and gave you a hearty welcome. That, I guess, is not part of the culture in Minneapolis. Well, at least not at the Del Prado restaurants and bars. Chef Del Prado is from Argentina, and certainly, Argentina is one of the warmest and friendliest countries in the world, so I don't get it. I now live up the block from the Flora Room. I'm a neighbor and would like to be treated like one. Neighborly and the Flora Room are distant concepts.
